With Mount Holyoke’s STEM programs, you’ll build in-depth knowledge of the sciences — enriching your understanding of the greater context and expanding the impact of your studies.
Breaking through barriers in STEM
At Mount Holyoke, there are no boundaries between the sciences, arts and humanities. In fact, you’ll be equipped and encouraged to integrate your STEM skills into all of your other courses. And in turn, you’ll apply your understanding of literature, global perspectives, ethics, history and more to the sciences.
From the laboratory to the library, you will make connections across fields of study, preparing you for a life of groundbreaking inquiry, insight and impact.
Launch Cutting Edge STEM Facilities
Success in STEM
Over the last 50 years, Mount Holyoke has graduated more women who went on to earn a doctorate in the life sciences than any other college — and we’re second overall in science and engineering.
A legacy of excellence in STEM
Since educator and chemist Mary Lyon founded our school in 1837, we have been leading the movement to advance gender diversity in STEM fields. Our top-ranked faculty, ample research opportunities and empowering campus culture mean that proportionally, more Mount Holyoke students major in STEM than women at co-ed institutions. And year after year, our students, faculty and alums continue to change the face of scientific research, collaboration and innovation.
40%
Excellence in STEM
We excel in preparing students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math. 40% of our students major in STEM fields — a higher proportion of women than at coeducational institutions.
Ranked among the top liberal arts colleges
Mount Holyoke is consistently cited among the top liberal arts colleges in the world across a range of categories: academics, faculty and student research, graduation and retention rates, our beautiful campus and access and affordability.
92%
Career outcomes
92% of graduates from the class of 2025 for whom outcomes data could be obtained (70% of the class) were employed and/or in graduate school within six months following graduation.
Mount Holyoke Experiences
Why I love to teach at Mount Holyoke
“The opportunity to teach a diverse student body at Mount Holyoke is very appealing. I was a student of color and supportive faculty were integral to my development as a scientist and an academic.”
André White, assistant professor of biological sciences
Peer mentorship
PLUMS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Mentoring System) is a set of peer-led supplementary workshops for gateway courses in the sciences. Workshops provide a place to actively and collaboratively engage with science and mathematics in a structured, supportive environment. You’ll solve advanced problems with ingenious solutions that prove the power of collaboration.
Pre-health advising
Interested in pursuing a clinical profession such as nursing, dentistry, veterinary or human medicine? Pre-health advising is available as soon as you are admitted to Mount Holyoke and continues through to when matriculate at a professional school. Here you will develop a strong foundation in the sciences and can also choose to take nonscience courses that complement your health-profession interests.
