Program Description
Current FOAs
Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)
To respond to the environmental health challenges of tomorrow, we must invest in the next generation of environmental health scientists today. The Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) program supports
early-stage investigators
who show a long-term commitment to research in the environmental health sciences. The program helps lay a foundation for future research success by funding the investigator’s R01 research project as well as career-enhancement activities.
Grantees come from an array of backgrounds and scientific disciplines. They represent the most promising biomedical investigators across the spectrum of science supported by NIEHS, including mechanistic, clinical, and population-based research. Through ONES grants, these scientists conduct cutting-edge research on health effects stemming from exposure to environmental contaminants such as arsenic, air pollution, industrial chemicals, and pesticides.
