supports the Premier and Cabinet in their roles as decision-makers with expert policy advice informed by data, evidence, consultation and a focus on the bigger picture.

advances NSW's interests at a national level through strategic advice to the Premier and Cabinet on intergovernmental matters.
upholds Cabinet conventions and good Cabinet practice to support better decision-making, including support for the Secretary in their role as Cabinet Secretary.
helps the Government deliver its agenda lawfully and effectively through good governance and expert legal advice.
builds public trust in government by supporting institutional and individual integrity.

Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding
On 24 August 2023, the NSW Government announced the creation of a new Special Commission of Inquiry tasked with conducting a review of healthcare funding in NSW. The Inquiry was also tasked with identifying opportunities to deliver higher quality, more timely, and more accessible patient-centred care. The NSW Government responded on 4 December 2025.

Net Zero Government Operations Policy
The NSW Government’s Net Zero Government Operations Policy (NZGOP) sets out the requirements for general government sector agencies with 100 or more staff to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the state’s legislated emissions reduction targets. The policy applies from December 2024 and replaces the Government Resource Efficiency Policy.

Special Commission of Inquiry into offending by former Corrections Officer Wayne Astill at Dillwynia Correctional Centre
On 13 September 2023, her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of the State of New South Wales in the Commonwealth of Australia, authorised the Hon Peter McClellan AM KC, as Commissioner, to conduct the inquiry as a Special Commission of Inquiry.
