Housing and Dining
More than a third of Tech undergraduate students live on campus (including all first-year
students). Our lively residential campus is the
safest public college in Michigan
and offers multiple on-campus housing options ranging from traditional residence
halls to apartment-style living.
On-campus dining options include residential eateries and food halls, coffee shops,
and more. Students can use their dining plans or pay per visit at retail dining locations.

Dining
First-year students living on campus can select from an unlimited or 19-meal plan
in the residential dining halls. If you have a class, lab, or work schedule conflict,
arrangements can be made to pick up a meal at a dining hall. In addition, each plan
offers a number of Dining Dollars each semester that can be used at several retail
locations on campus.
A variety of entrées are offered at each meal, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free,
and wellness options.  A
variety of culinary concepts
are presented in the three dining halls—and throughout the day—to satisfy cravings
and to comfort and fuel students depending on their needs. Dining Services is happy
to work with students who have allergies or other dietary needs.
Dining Dollars are pre-loaded on your student ID and are accepted at retail dining
locations on campus and at some vending machines. You can
add more Dining Dollars
to your account any time.

Frequently Asked Questions
1
Am I required to live on campus?
All first-year students, other than transfer or commuting students living with a parent/guardian,
must live on campus during their first year. Students receiving a Leading Scholar
Award, National Scholars Program Award, or Presidential Scholars Program Award are
required to live on campus for their first two years. Many students choose to live
on campus for more than one year. Transfer students are not required to live on campus,
but we have a place for you if you complete your housing contract before June 1 (for
the fall semester).
2
How do I apply to live in on-campus housing?
Once you've paid your enrollment deposit, you can submit your online housing contract
beginning in January.
3
Do I get to choose my roommate(s)?
If you want to! Once you submit your residence hall application, you'll be invited
to use Roommate Matching beginning in early March. Request a roommate you know or
search for the best match. You have until June 1 to enter your roommate choice, but
it's best to match as early as possible. If you choose not to use this program, we'll
assign you a roommate. Please note: Students enrolling for spring or summer semesters
are not eligible for Roommate Matching.
4
What kinds of amenities are included in the residence halls?
Each residence hall has its own study lounge, game room, kitchenettes, sauna, laundry
facility, fitness room, reception desk, mail services, bike storage, lounges, and
student and professional staff.
5
What should I bring?
We've made a whole list of
what to bring
(and what to leave at home).
6
Can I bring my car?
You're welcome to bring a vehicle to campus, but chances are you won't need it. If
you can't get what you need on campus, we have several free transportation options
to get you around town—not to mention the rides you'll get from friends! If you do
decide to bring a vehicle, you'll need to register it with
Transportation Services
and pay the fee to obtain your parking permit. Permits are also available for motorcycles,
scooters, and snowmobiles. Please note that winter storage is not available on campus.
7
Do you have mixed gender housing?
Yes—
mixed gender housing options
are available for all students.
