Lymphedema Management
Lymphedema is a chronic, lifelong illness that causes swelling in one or more parts of the body such as the arms, legs, torso and head. An individual can be born with primary lymphedema or develop secondary lymphedema as a result of surgery, cancer, radiation, infection, poor blood flow, or obesity. However, with proper care and treatment lymphedema can be prevented or controlled to maximize your quality of life.
How We Treat
Our trained physical and occupational therapists will complete a thorough evaluation in order to design a treatment plan based on your goals. Treatment includes a two phase complete decongestive therapy. It includes manual massage, compression bandaging of the swollen area(s) and exercise. We teach you how to perform self-maintenance of your lymphedema in order to maintain improvements in mobility and healing, and continue to keep pain and swelling down. Lymphedema management helps you to avoid surgical procedures
