Randall Museum offers a wide selection of activities for kids and families on a drop-in or same-day-registration basis. Visitors are also welcome to mingle with the
Randall Animals

Afternoon Art
All ages are welcome to participate in this interactive community-learning environment with a Randall Museum art instructor. A different activity is featured each week.
Time:
Saturdays, 1 – 4 pm. Drop in anytime
Fee:
$10 per adult/child combo
$5 per each additional person
Ages:
3 to 7 years accompanied by paying adult

Register at the front desk. The last sign-ups are taken at 3:30 pm

Meet an Animal Ambassador
Join one of the animal keepers in an open discussion about the museum’s wildlife residents. Learn how the keepers care for the animals and how and where these creatures live in the wild.

Join the Randall Museum’s resident birding guide for a bird walk on Corona Hill every month. This is a moderate/strenuous hike that includes a large staircase and some rocky terrain. Bring your own Binoculars. (BYOB!) Meet at 8 am at 199 Museum Way in the front yard of the Randall Museum just past the curved entrance gate. There’s parking on site. Muni 37 Corbett line stops 2 blocks away for those using public transportation.

Learn about their stories and why they now reside here with us. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about the wildlife that call California home, while also learning about how some are cared for at the museum. Guests may have a chance to see “eyes to eyes ” with a tarantula, slither along with a snake, or even get a closer look at one of our birds of prey. This presentation may occur inside the animal exhibit or outdoors weather permitting.

Fix-a-Flat Clinic for Students and Families

May is Bike Month! Get geared up by learning how to fix a flat tire on your bike.
Join us for a flat fix clinic with San Francisco Safe Routes to School. With a skilled instructor you will learn about basic terminology, tools, what are “everyday carries” and the proper techniques for changing a tire. That way you can feel ready for the bike lane for Bike Month!
This is best suited for acoustic or non-electric bikes. Practice Materials and all necessary equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own bike or wheel.

Art Studio
Randall Museum Art Studio is set up with supplies, tools, and work surfaces for an unlimited variety of art projects for people of all ages. The room also has wonderful views of the City and access to an outdoor patio.
Ceramics Studio
Randall Museum’s refurbished Ceramics Studio has electric wheels, manual wheels, electric and gas powered kilns, clay traps and a collection of hand tools, glazes and clays to create different ceramics projects for all age groups.
Woodshop
Randall Museum has one of the rare, fully equipped public access woodshops. The woodworking studio has the capacity to provide classes for all age groups and all skills from Parent-Toddler Classes to Adult Open Studio. There are a full complement of both hand and power tools including a large Band Saw from the 1930’s from the old Naval Base on Mare Island.
The Garage/STEAM Lab
Randall Museum’s newest studio space is one of the few public access STEAM Labs (science-technology-engineering-art-mathematics) in San Francisco. Equipment includes computers and Arduino devices for programming, robotics supplies, 3-D printers, CDC laser cutter, and more. The Garage will have programmatic overlap with the Woodshop.
Natural Sciences Lab
Randall Museum’s dedicated classroom for science programming is in a new location and has been outfitted with a variety of computers, microscopes and other science equipment suitable for classes for kids, drop-in activities and experiments.
Theater
Randall Theater has both bleacher and floor seating with a capacity of 180 people. There is a full set of stage lights and riggings to provide light, sound and other effects to support any activity on the raked stage. The theater also has a small green room (not accessible), and a sound booth with capacity to control lights, sound and projections.
Accessibility
To get from the main part of the building to The Garage & Woodshop or from the main part of the building to the Art Room & Buckley-Redwood Room & Redwood Ramp, it is necessary to exit the building.
