Teacher Flying Squad
Soar into action to fill vacancies in rural, regional and remote schools at short notice.
These short-term appointments are generally between 4 and 10 weeks in schools with different needs.
Flying squad teachers need to dive in from day one to captivate students. Our successful teachers bring a versatile skill set, a deep understanding of the curriculum, and effective classroom management strategies to every appointment.
You will receive free accommodation and travel to and from the location of the appointment.
There are different categories of Teacher Flying Squad teachers:

Teacher Flying Squad short-term appointment pool 2026–27
Relief
Required to undertake duties at an agreed location
Can accept or decline positions offered
Allowances
Entitled to a dislocation allowance to the value of $16,500 per annum, paid fortnightly in lieu of any other allowances, provided in addition to base salary
Entitled to receive individual school, locality and district allowances in addition to base salary
Appointment
24-month fixed-term appointment, after successful completion of this period, you can be appointed as a permanent teacher with the Department
Individual contracts with the school
You’ll receive:
free accommodation
free travel to and from the location of your appointment
any locality and school-specific allowances that apply to the teaching staff at the school, in addition to your teaching salary.
