This week HAO proudly took part in National Science Week, embracing this year’s inspiring theme: “Curiosity – What’s Your Question?”
We believe every great idea begins with a question.

So we ask our whole community: What’s your question?

Well done to our Year 8 and Year 9 football teams, who both won their tense and entertaining matches, by 1 goal. Both our goalkeepers saving last minute penalties to hold out for the win! Great effort by all!

Exam expectations
School Uniform
All students, including Year 11 students, MUST wear full school uniform when attending school for revision classes and examinations.
Any students who come to school not in uniform will be asked to go home and change. They will not be allowed on school premises.
Exams Equipment
Students must make sure they are properly equipped for every exam. You should bring
two black ball-pens, a pencil, eraser,
sharpener
and any other writing or Mathematics equipment needed for your exams. Check with your teacher if you think you will need
any specialist equipment.
Awarding Bodies
The main four awarding bodies we use for GCSE and A Level exams are
AQA
,
Pearson
Edexcel
,
OCR
and
WJEC
. You can get useful
information on the exams process from their websites and all will allow you to download free copies of past exam papers. Their websites
are:
www.aqa.org.uk
https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/home.html
www.ocr.org.uk
www.wjec.co.uk
When looking for
past papers
you should be aware that the awarding bodies refer to A Level papers as GCE - do not confuse this with
GCSE which are the exams students do in Year 10 and 11. You may need to search within different GCSE date categories to find the
subject you are looking for. Every subject has a course code and each paper has a component code - you will find it helpful to have this
code to help you identify the correct exam papers. You will find it on your child's exam timetable under
Component
.
Ofqual Exams Information
OFQUAL is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation. Their website contains useful information for students and
parents/carers on the exams process at
www.ofqual.gov.uk
. In particular you may find the following links useful:
GCSEs, AS and A levels: a guide for students in England

Exam Regulations
There are very strict rules about public exams which are enforced by the awarding bodies. You can  download copies of the notices via
the links below.

Joint Council for Qualifications
(JCQ) policies below are used in addition HAO examination policies (see above). We cross-
