It’s the alarm clock going off before dawn and watching the sunrise from a project that’s
00:04
just topped out.
00:06
Of course it’s all the usual suspects: hi-vis, chippies and steel-capped boots.
00:12
But it’s so much more.
00:13
It’s sustainability, accessibility, and how to house a growing population.
00:18
It’s a thousand millimetre-sized decisions and the experience to make them.
00:22
It’s the thresholds of private and public space; from the most intimate details, to
00:28
the vastness of a changing skyline.
00:30
Property, construction, the built environment – it’s what’s next for our homes, towns
00:35
and cities.
00:37
You build because you believe you can do better.
00:40
You build because you can see the future and have the skills to bring it to life.

Meet Danielle
Studying the Diploma of Building and Construction has helped Danielle open doors to exciting job prospects in the building industry.
I've been a hairdresser for 10 years and one of my clients actually told me about the Diploma of Building and Construction. I was currently building my own house and I thought, You know what, I can do this.
The flexibility of the course really attracted me to RMIT.
RMIT has a really good building construction course and they are very reputable. I also felt like they encourage women to get into the industry.
RMIT really encourages us to take work placements, they want you to try out different roles in the workplace to see what suits you and what the industry is really like.
The course has already given me some career opportunities just by networking and I've already been offered some jobs. I'm really excited to take those up and see where it takes me.

State-of-the-art facilities
RMIT’s Trades Innovation Centre is a cutting-edge facility offering the latest in skills training and technology for students and industry.
The 1,700 square metre modular design features adaptable spaces, including a 2.5-metre-deep sand pit, double-height workshop ceilings, and a three-storey training rig that mimics building construction for real-world experience.
Divided into ‘trade zones’, this allows students to gain hands-on experience while observing other trades, fostering a deeper understanding of how different trades intersect and work together.
The program provided me with the opportunity to interact with a lot of industry leaders. With these interactions, I made industry networks and learned about the key soft skills and technical skills required to gain employment.
