Situated in the quaint Lake District village of Hawkshead, the Hawkshead Grammar School Museum gives insight into school life from 1585 to 1909. A preserved piece of Lake District history, the school houses
a collection of historic classroom furniture and artefacts used in the
School, some of which date back to the 17th Century. Unique to Hawkshead Grammar School is the school library, containing over 1800 books from the 16th to 19th century which were enjoyed by the schoolboys for centuries.

We offer a range of family activities including
dressing up, scavenger hunts, quill writing and a 'fact-finder' quiz and historical games.
Group tours are offered a longer talk, which can be tailored to suit special interests (e.g. Wordsworth) on request. After the talk, groups are welcome to explore the museum and should allow 1 hour for the total visit.
