Are dogs allowed at Ushaw?
Ushaw allows well-behaved dogs inside the Main House, where they will be allowed entry to our café and corridors where we showcase temporary exhibitions by local artists.
Our gardens & grounds are dog friendly, but please keep them on a lead when its busy and pick up after them. Dogs must be on a lead in our Formal Gardens. Remember that not everyone is comfortable around dogs, please make sure your dog doesn’t run up to other people, especially children.

Why do you charge admission?
Ushaw is an independent Charity funded only through donations, entrance fees, legacies and commercial operations, it is a self-sustaining charitable estate, independent of church or government funding. Our team takes care of Ushaw’s Grade 1, 2 and 2* listed buildings, with running costs of over £1 million per annum.
Your contributions through admissions and memberships help us to maintain Ushaw’s buildings and grounds for the enjoyment of everyone.
Why is your Local Membership only for DH7?
We created the local membership postcode area scheme to benefit those who live in the immediate vicinity of Ushaw.
Whilst we understand it may be frustrating that your postcode isn’t included in the area, we had to make the decision to cut off the postcode remit at some point and thought DH7 most appropriate. However, this is something we may look to change in the future.
