Scholarships | University of Minnesota Morris Scholarships At UMN Morris we believe that cost should never get in the way of a great education. We are committed to making college affordable and accessible to everyone, no matter who you are or where you’re from. Scholarships are a type of financial aid that does not have to be repaid, and are awarded based on specific criteria, such as major, grade point average, or financial need. Financial Aid Questions? Our One Stop Student Services team will walk you through the financial aid process to ensure that you get the financial aid you need, taking into consideration all financial aid options. One Stop Student Services First-Year Scholarships Expand all Academic Achievement Awards Your Academic Achievement Award is automatically awarded with your acceptance to UMN Morris. You do not need to take any additional steps to apply for this scholarship. If you are a first-year student, you will be considered for an Academic Achievement Award based on information provided in your application for admission. The amount of your scholarship is determined by your core GPA, which includes math, science, social studies, world language, and English courses. GPA Requirements Award Level Unweighted Core GPA Academic Achievement Award Tier 1 3.90 - 4.00 $20,000 over four years ($5,000 per year) Tier 2 3.75 - 3.89 $14,000 over four years ($3,500 per year) Tier 3 3.50 - 3.74 $8,000 over four years ($2,000 per year) Tier 4 3.25 - 3.49 $4,000 over four years ($1,000 per year) First-Year Community of Scholars Competitive Scholarships Entering first-year domestic students who receive an automatically-awarded Academic Achievement Award are eligible to participate in the Community of Scholars process to compete for scholarships up to full tuition. Eligible admitted students will be invited to participate. The Prairie, Morris, and Distinguished Scholars scholarships are awarded through this process. Students must complete the application for admission by December 15 in order to participate in the Community of Scholars. Prairie Scholars Prairie Scholars receive a scholarship package equivalent to full tuition, renewable for up to four years. Eligibility: Eligible students are invited to participate in the Community of Scholars process after they are admitted to UMN Morris. Financial Details: Full tuition, for up to four years Scholarship Details: This scholarship award, renewed by maintaining a GPA of 2.5, will replace the Academic Achievement Award scholarship package awarded at the time of your admission to Morris. Morris Scholars Morris Scholars receive a $28,000 scholarship package, disbursed evenly over four years, plus a one-time $2,500 scholarship stipend Eligibility: Eligible students are invited to participate in the Community of Scholars process after they are admitted to UMN Morris. Financial Details: $28,000 scholarship package, disbursed evenly over four years $2,500 one time scholarship stipend . The stipend may be used during the second, third, or fourth year at Morris to engage in an eligible scholarship experience (e.g., to study abroad , to participate in a research or artistic project , or to travel to academic conferences). Scholarship Details: This scholarship award, renewed by maintaining a GPA of 2.5, will replace the Academic Achievement Award scholarship package awarded at the time of your admission to Morris. Distinguished Scholars Distinguished Scholars receive a one-time $1,500 scholarship stipend. Eligibility: Eligible students are invited to participate in the Community of Scholars process after they are admitted to UMN Morris. Financial Details: Amount: $1,500 Scholarship Details: The stipend may be used during your second, third, or fourth year at Morris to engage in an eligible scholarship experience (e.g., to study abroad , to participate in a research or artistic project , or to travel to academic conferences). National Merit Scholarships National Merit Finalists who choose UMN Morris as their first-choice college will receive a full tuition scholarship, renewable for up to four years. Semi-Finalists and Commended Scholars are eligible for up to $4,000, dispersed evenly over four years and renewable for up to four years. Students must provide the Office of Admissions with documentation of their National Merit status to receive the award. National Merit Scholarship Timeline Transfer Scholarships Expand all Academic Transfer Scholar Award Students transferring to UMN Morris from a regionally accredited college, including other institutions within the University of Minnesota System, with at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA (calculated based on transferable credits), qualify for a transfer scholarship package ranging from $3,000 to $6,000, dispersed evenly for up to six consecutive semesters (does not include summer term). All transfer scholarships require students to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be enrolled for at least 12 credits at UMN Morris. GPA Requirements GPA Calculated on transferable credit Award 4.00 - 3.75 $6,000 over 6 semesters ($1,000 per semester) 3.74 - 3.50 $4,500 over 6 semesters ($750 per semester) 3.49 - 3.25 $3,000 over 6 semesters ($500 per semester) Phi Theta Kappa Award In addition to a Transfer Scholar Award, members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) receive an annual $1,500 PTK Scholar Award (eligible for a total of two years or four semesters). Proof of membership is required. Financial Details: $1,500 PTK Scholar Award (eligible for a total of two years or four semesters) Search Scholarship and Aid You may be awarded additional scholarships with your financial aid package. First-year students and new transfer students do not need to take any additional steps to apply for additional University of Minnesota Morris scholarships. Some additional scholarships may be added to your Academic Achievement Award, while others may be applied as part of your Academic Achievement Award. Important: Review your financial aid package to understand how various types of aid work together. See Additional Scholarships General Scholarship Requirements All renewable scholarships are awarded on a per semester basis for fall or spring terms only and require students to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be enrolled for at least 12 credits The Prairie Scholars Award, Morris Scholars Award, and National Merit Scholarship will replace any previous scholarship package award offers. National Merit Scholarships cannot be combined with the Prairie or Morris Scholars Award. Final scholarship packages may consist of academic scholarships and donor-funded scholarship awards.
