Lower School Academics
Create – Discover – Persevere
The Lower School program at Regis instills a passion for learning through thoughtfully designed experiences both in the classroom and out. Teachers work closely with students individually and in small groups to ensure differentiated instruction throughout the curriculum.
Active learning, movement, and collaboration are incorporated throughout the day and provide an important opportunity for students to partner with friends, begin to learn teamwork, and build meaningful relationships.
Boys are inspired to be enthusiastic readers, thoughtful writers, and inquisitive mathematicians and scientists, with robust critical thinking skills and efficient problem-solving skills, with the goal of moving on from Lower School on a path to becoming independent learners for a lifetime.
My two boys love going to school and have a wonderful core of lasting friendships. Regis lets boys be themselves while providing structure. The school teaches rigorous academics and important life skills necessary for their growth as scholars and gentlemen.
I am so thankful my son was accepted [into] Regis because his education is of the utmost importance to me. His year with Regis has reinforced that, and I am excited for the coming year!
Great school with a focus on teaching boys and young men in a manner tailored to them. Couldn't be happier to have my two sons at Regis.
Regis is my first all-boys school in my teaching career, and I feel like it was a godsend. There is this dynamic energy here that I feel like you can’t find in a coeducational environment.

The Regis curriculum is thoughtful, responsive, and deliberate. Our unique boy-centered curriculum allows teachers the latitude to choose learning experiences that are specifically tailored to boys. From the selection of topics, projects and classroom materials, to the arrangement of classroom furniture, to the pedagogy, faculty create an environment where
The Regis Experience
thrives.
Regis Lower School students have P.E. daily. In addition to this, boys have the opportunity to participate in morning recess before the school day begins and have a break and recess incorporated into their daily schedule as well.
Movement is not confined to the outdoors at Regis. In the spirit of
Goal V
, boys are encouraged to move within the classroom as an aid to their learning experience. Classroom instruction is designed for this freedom of movement, whether it be working in small groups, rearranging classroom furniture to best suit the lesson at hand or participating in lessons while sitting on the floor or in flexible seating.
The Morning Meeting occurs for the first 15 minutes of each school day. This meeting is an engaging and purposeful way for the boys to start their day.
Morning Meeting consists of four sequential components: greeting, sharing, group activity and morning message. This time allows for constructive conversations about what is happening within the classroom while preparing the boys for the day ahead. The framework and frequency aids in building a strong sense of community (
Goal IV
) and lays the foundation for social and academic success (
Goal II
). Additionally, these structured conversations are an inclusive way for the boys to practice listening, expressing their thoughts, paying attention and participating in cooperative interaction (
Goal V
).
Examples of questions explored in Morning Meeting:
• If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what rule would you make? Why?
• What makes you feel loved?
• What would you do if you made the rules at home?
• What makes you happy?
• If you were a teacher, and the kids in your class would not listen to you, what would you do?
All Lower School students take Spanish class taught by a native speaker as one of their co-curricular classes. The objective of the class is to introduce the students to the Spanish language, along with the various countries and cultures that predominantly use that language. Studies show that children who are exposed to a second language at a young age have significant cognitive advantages, and it makes it easier to learn additional languages as one matures.
Lower School Makerspace is a co-curricular class that introduces students to the Design Thinking Process, an approach to problem-solving that encourages students to first understand the needs of the user of their design, then to ideate, create, prototype, and test their creations. Technology implemented in the class exposes Lower School students to a variety of uses and ways to apply and showcase their learning. Coding and robotics are also introduced at each of the grade levels.
