Allied Health
A holistic view to good health
Mater Allied Health is a collective of health professions (other than nursing and medicine) that provide a range of diagnostic and therapeutic clinical and support services for our patients and their families.
Allied health professionals can provide services as the sole practitioner providing direct care for a patient or work in conjunction with doctors and nurses as part of a patient’s healthcare team.
All allied health referrals are prioritised on the basis of clinical need and client safety.  On occasion, this may mean that we need to use a wait list for some services.  Both the patient and the referrer will be notified of any waiting periods at the time of referral.
These services are provided to both insured and non-insured inpatients, outpatients and their families across all Mater hospitals.
Allied health services include
Audiology
Audiologists assist with concerns relating to a patient's hearing, dizziness/vertigo and other ear related conditions.
Nutrition and dietetics
Dietitians work with you to create a personalised nutrition plan to help improve health and wellbeing.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapists work with you to return to daily activities after an injury or illness.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists are experts in physical movement and function.
Psychology
Psychologists offer councelling to assist with a range of health and relationship concerns, difficult life transitions or mental health issues.
Social work
Social workers support your overall wellbeing, helping you through social and interpersonal difficulties and advocating for your needs.
Speech pathology
Speech pathologists help you make the most of your communication, as well as enabling safe and enjoyable eating and drinking.
