Many clubs meet during the school’s activities period between 2:30 and 3:15pm, allowing students who take the bus to easily participate. Other activities are more involved and require an additional commitment of time. If students are interested in beginning a club that is not currently available, the Mount offers them the opportunity to start one. Both NASA HUNCH Teams Qualify for Finals in Houston 3/24/2026 Michelle H. Daino Astronauts savoring shrimp tacos while enjoying a few rounds of chess in space? Thanks to the NASA HUNCH Prototype & Design and Culinary Teams at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, this may be a possibility that defies gravity! After competing extensively this year among regional teams, the Mount teams have been invited to the Final Design Reviews at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas on April 28 where they will present their designs to NASA scientists and engineers. SOCA, Mount Students Attend Black History Tour in Westfield 3/20/2026 Members of the Students of Color Affinity (SOCA) and other Mount students attended an impressionable and valuable field trip on March 19, sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association in Westfield . Madeline Albrittain, World Languages Department Chairperson and SOCA Advisor, and Dr. Diana Artis, the Mount’s DEI Coordinator and CEO/Founder of Olive Branch Educators, served as chaperones. Three Students Participate in FBLA State Leadership Conference 3/19/2026 Congratulations to Brianna Marion '27 Josie Heim '27 , and Annika Jeena '28 for representing Mount Saint Mary Academy at the FBLA State Leadership Conference (SLC) in Atlantic City from March 9 to 11. After placing at Regionals in Cybersecurity and Retail and Merchandising, these three immersed themselves in a professional business environment where they attended workshops, networked with pros, and competed at the highest level in New Jersey. "Being surrounded by so many innovative and driven students created an inspiring environment that encourages me to continue growing as a leader,” said Josie. Brianna added, "It was a very independent experience where you could choose your own path. I practiced mock interviews and spoke one on one with business leaders about their success." Daino While celebrating the theme of "Wicked" based off the popular movie, middle school students from local schools were excited to vie for trophies during this year's Junior High Forensics Competition on March 11th. The three-hour event was organized by Nicole Doria '18 , Italian Teacher. Mock Trial Wins Somerset County Title for Second Consecutive Year 2/19/2026 Michelle H. Daino CONGRATULATIONS to the Mount's Mock Trial team - the LEGAL LIONS - for winning the Somerset County Championship title for the second consecutive year. The victory was achieved Thursday night at the Somerset County Courthouse where team members beat Hillsborough for the win. Daino A large crowd of Mount Saint Mary Academy students turned out on the afternoon of November 19 to hear Mr. Richard Mistichelli and Mrs. Nicole Mistichelli, accomplished pharmacists, impart their knowledge about the career field and demonstrate various pharmaceutical techniques. Daino The Mount Lions roar a lot stronger thanks to the new chapter of Morgan’s Message which was formally established on campus this year. Co-Ambassadors, Courtney Carew ’26 and Ella Lawlor ’27 , are at the helm of this initiative which removes the stigma surrounding mental health and provides a safe space for athletes to thrive emotionally while facing the pressures of daily life. Daino Members of the Peeks school newspaper staff and their moderator, Ms. Judith Furnari of the English Department, attended the Garden State Scholastic Press Association's (GSSPA) Fall Press Day at the Busch Campus Center at Rutgers University on October 27th. NASA Expert Visits Mount's NASA Hunch Team 10/2/2025 Michelle H. Civics Engagement Club Travels to Boston 4/30/2025 Michelle H. Daino During Easter Vacation, the Mount Civic Engagement Club traveled to Boston to participate in a Senate Immersion Module at the Edward M. Kennedy Senate Institute. They took on the roles of U.S. Senators, debated election reform, and experienced democracy in action on a full-scale replica of the Senate floor. Mock Trial Team Named Somerset County Champions 2/21/2025 Michelle H. Daino Congratulations to the Mount Saint Mary Academy Mock Trial team, the LEGAL LIONS, on their incredible win against Hillsborough last night! The Legal Lions are officially your 2025 Somerset County Champions! The team will compete in regionals next Tuesday. Danielle Lovallo, English Teacher and Mock Trial Advisor, said, "The team worked so hard all season, and I couldn't be prouder of them!" Echoes Literary Magazine Earns 'Distinguished' Distinction 2/11/2025 Michelle H. Daino The Echoes literary magazine, which is published by the students at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, recently received “Distinguished” status from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for its edition entitled, "Utopia." This honor marks the 12th year in a row that our students have produced literary publications worthy of recognizable merit. The upcoming theme of this year's magazine will be "Nostalgia." NASA Hunch Culinary Team Attends Competition 2/7/2025 Michelle H. Daino The Mount's NASA Hunch Culinary Team (L.I.O.N.S. - Ladies In Ongoing NASA Studies) participated in a competition on February 3 at Passaic County Tech Institute in Wayne. In September, the team was given the NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge of creating a unique pasta dish. Over the past few months, students brought in several dishes to try which needed to meet strict nutritional guidelines. The recipes were adapted to meet that criteria. Future Medical Professionals Attend Trip to Rutgers Medical Lab 1/30/2025 Michelle H. Daino On January 24, the Future Medical Professionals Club received a hands-on experience with cadavers and were instructed by first- and second-year medical students at the Rutgers Medical School Cadaver Lab. The trip, led by Dr. Michael Bernard (science teacher and club advisor) was especially impactful for Julia Kot '26 and Liliana Gallagher '28 , who shared their insights. Election Fair Educates All on Value of Voting, Political Process 11/5/2024 Michelle H. Daino Members of the Mount's Civic Engagement Club (formerly known as JSA) and AP U.S. Government and Politics (APGOPO) classes organized an Election Fair, which was held on Election Day. This event aimed to deepen our school community’s understanding of voting rights history and the election process, fostering awareness among our future voters. Extracurricular Spotlight: Cancer Kids First 11/5/2024 Michelle H. Daino Envisioning the plight and sadness of children suffering from cancer who are spending their days in hospitals, facing treatment, and feeling sadness compelled Isabella Law ’26 and Isabella Vitorino ’26 sought to establish a Cancer Kids First (CFK) chapter at the Mount. Extracurricular Spotlight: Women of the Word 10/27/2024 Michelle H. Daino A new club at Mount Saint Mary Academy, Women of the Word is a Bible study group which aims to be a welcoming environment for all students who are interested in connecting with their peers on a spiritual level. While students learn about scripture in Sophomore Theology class, Women of the Word offers opportunities for students to look at scripture in a more casual setting with other students who are also interested in growing in their faith. The group is open to all students, regardless of their level of experience with scripture. The goal is to find a supportive community where everyone can grow together and learn more about God. Mount Saint Mary Academy Earns Pillar of Action Award from Operation Smile 9/12/2024 The Operation Smile International Student Leadership Conference (ISLC) was attended by Mounties Isla Bernens '26, Sabrina Cialdella '27, Elizabeth Corrigan '25 , and Makena Muchiri '27 at Emory University in Georgia from July 22 to 28. During the conference, the Mount was presented with the prestigious 2024 Pillar of Action Award. Buddies on the Hill Hosts Prom 4/18/2024 Buddies on the Hill, a Mount club started by Kathleen Altobelli ’24 Emma Szabo ’24 , and moderated by Julia Pierce (Enrollment Management Associate, Student Council Moderator), held its prom on Tuesday evening at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen. Buddies on the Hill teamed up with Falcons & Friends a club at St. Joe’s last year, an organization created to include individuals with special needs into our community. These past two years have been so rewarding and a success for the program! Women's Empowerment Club Focuses on STEM Careers 4/15/2024 Michelle H. Daino Recently, the Women’s Empowerment Club hosted a panel of ‘Women in STEM careers’ with some of the Mount’s finest! Students heard from faculty and staff members who, prior to their careers in education, had careers in science, IT, computer science, engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, data analysis and STEM project management.
