Undergraduate Research at the University of Oregon
Participation in research is a vital part of the undergraduate experience at the University of Oregon. Students from across the academic disciplines can be found investigating, discovering, creating, and innovating. Research experiences allow students to explore and clarify their academic and professional goals while developing critical thinking and important workforce skills.

Research Programs and Grants
Undergraduate research programs provide funding to support student involvement in research. At the University of Oregon, there are two types of funding opportunities: Fellowships and Grants. Fellowship programs provide direct support to students in the form of a scholarship/fellowship stipend. Grant programs provide support to offset the cost of supplies, materials, equipment, travel, and other research-related expenses.

Eligible majors:
All majors
Up to $1,000 in research support. Awards can be used for any research expense.
Knight Campus Undergraduate Scholars
Knight Campus Undergraduate Scholars
Eligible majors:
All majors in natural sciences.
$16,000 fellowship award for 12 months of research.
Humanities Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Humanities Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Eligible majors:
All majors.
$2,500 fellowship award for 16 weeks of research during the winter and spring terms.
Hui Undergraduate Research Scholars
Hui Undergraduate Research Scholars
Eligible majors:
All majors conducting research in a STEM field that meet the eligibility criteria.
$16,000 fellowship award for 12 months of research.
VPRI Fellowship
VPRI Fellowship
Eligible majors:
All majors.
$5,000 fellowship award for 10 weeks of research during the summer.
O'Day Fellowship
O'Day Fellowship
Eligible majors:
All majors conducting research in biological sciences.
$5,000 fellowship award to undergraduate-graduate student pairs for 10 weeks of research during the summer.
P-Chem Fellowship
P-Chem Fellowship
Eligible majors:
All majors conducting research in a physical chemistry lab.
$3,000 fellowship award for 10 weeks of research during the summer.
Presidential Undergraduate Research Scholars
Presidential Undergraduate Research Scholars
Eligible majors:
Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, and Computer Science majors.
$5,000 fellowship award for a full academic year of research.
First Year Research Experience
CURE First Year Research Experience
Eligible majors:
All majors. Must be in their first year at the UO, including transfer students.
$5,000 fellowship award for minimum of 8 weeks of research during the summer.
Small Research Grant
CURE Small Research Grant
Eligible majors:
All majors.
Up to $500 for research-related expenses.

The
Oregon Undergraduate Research Journal
(OURJ) is an open-access, multidisciplinary student journal at the University of Oregon. Since 2010, OURJ’s biannual issues have showcased some of the best academic work by UO undergraduate students across all disciplines.
The Undergraduate Research Symposium celebrates the outstanding achievements of our undergraduate students in research and creative endeavors spanning the humanities, sciences, arts, and social sciences.

UROP and its partners provide direct support to undergraduate students through fellowship programs and provide advising, support, and coaching to students seeking to get involved in research. Council on Undergraduate Research.
The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), founded in 1978, is a national organization of individual and institutional members representing over 900 colleges and universities. CUR believes that faculty members enhance their teaching and contribution to society by remaining active in research and by involving undergraduates in research, and students succeed in their studies and professional advancement through participation in undergraduate research.
