We have exceptionally strong research programs in these geo specialties: hydrogeology, geophysics, hard rock, paleoecology, and sediment/surfaces. Hydrogeology: the study of groundwater and its flow. Earth Magnetism: the study of Earth’s changing magnetic field and the ancient magnetic field records trapped in Earth materials. Hard Rock: the study of structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, volcanology, and tectonics. Paleoecology: the study of animal and plant fossils. Sediment/Surfaces: the study of sediments, soils, and sedimentary rocks to understand modern and ancient surface processes and environments.
