Ghana Advances Toward National Space Law with UN Support
Ghana has taken a bold step forward in shaping its future in space. From 17–19 June 2025, the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), hosted a
Technical Advisory Mission (TAM) on Space Law
in Accra.
Organized with support from the
United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)
and the
Government of France
, the mission brought global legal experts to assist Ghana in drafting its national space law and aligning with international space treaties. Topics included:
Core space law principles and treaty ratification
Establishing a national space registry and licensing framework
Mitigation of space debris and sustainable space practices
Laying the legal foundation for the Ghana Space Agency
Over 40 experts and stakeholders from across government, academia, and industry contributed to shaping a sustainable legal framework that ensures Ghana remains a responsible, forward-looking spacefaring nation.
This initiative is a major milestone in Ghana’s journey toward unlocking opportunities in the global space economy.
