About
About
We believe children learn best in an inclusive, creative, and nurturing environment that engages the whole child. Students here are active partners in their education, and learning is joyful.
Academics
Academics
From its inception, Burgundy has educated children in innovative ways. Our students learn by doing. The school community and its two campuses offer a nurturing atmosphere that inspire creativity through the arts and develop critical thinking skills with an integrated curriculum and hands-on projects.
Admission
Admission
Burgundy educates children from Junior Kindergarten through grade 8. The admission process begins in the fall prior to the year in which a student enrolls.

Community
Community
Burgundy doesn’t just refer to our school or our campuses. Burgundy is a beloved community.
The Burgundy Difference
Burgundy Difference
The Burgundy community is united by its commitment to creating a learning community that affirms children for who they are and where they are developmentally and that helps all our students realize their full potential as students and as people.
Giving
Giving
The Burgundy that our students and families love and enjoy today is the product of a handful of families doing together what none could have done individually: purchasing land, rehabilitating and raising buildings, hiring a professional faculty.

Our Alexandria Campus
Our Alexandria Campus
Burgundy students engage in active learning at both our 26-acre Alexandria campus and our 506-acre campus in West Virginia, known as Cooper’s Cove. We offer summer programs on both campuses.
Our Alexandria campus has been called a “true hidden gem” in the DC metropolitan area, and first-time visitors are often surprised that this unique setting and learning environment is so accessible from most of the region. The Alexandria campus, a former dairy farm, comprises plentiful and mature woods with walking trails, and a pond with a learning dock, a barn with farm animals, a large sledding hill and playing field, and ample space to rove and explore.
Colorful, light-filled, and uniquely designed classrooms open directly to the outdoors and reflect our belief that students learn best in a welcoming, creative, and friendly environment. Teachers can take advantage of a seemingly unlimited variety of natural and fun spaces for learning, including hands-on science lessons.
A friend recommended we visit Burgundy. She warned us that we would fall in love. She was right. The expansive, lush campus with its rolling hills. The quaint buildings that housed surprisingly modern classrooms. The sweet red barn with goats, sheep, chickens and even a pig. The small class sizes. The incredible library that rivals some public collections. The amazing playground. The rich, progressive curriculum. The smiling, energetic teachers who seemed to adore their jobs. We loved it all. How could we not? But what really got me was this game the kids were playing as we drove up. It was called Wolves and Caribou. It was basically a tag/hide and seek hybrid, but the kids were using the ENTIRE campus to play. They were laughing and screaming and running all over like free range … children. Like children are supposed to run. And that’s when I knew. That’s what I wanted for my kiddo. A place to be free.
