As the second-largest city in the United States, Los Angeles is home to immigrants from more than 140 countries. We are working together with our community partners to bring important information to you about immigration and citizenship.
We value your privacy and your rights as a resident in Los Angeles. All information is confidential, and all services are free. Please note, we are unable to assist people who live outside of California.

New Americans Centers are located at the following libraries: Central Library, Echo Park Branch Library, Junipero Serra Branch Library, Pacoima Branch Library, Pio Pico - Koreatown Branch Library, Wilmington Branch Library.
Schedule an appointment
New Americans service appointments are either in-person at a New Americans Center or by telephone. Each appointment is 60 minutes. If your appointment is in person, you will go to your scheduled appointment at a New Americans Center. If your appointment is by telephone, a service provider will call you.
Currently the services are available in English, español (Spanish), հայերեն (Armenian), 한국어 (Korean), فارسی (Persian/Farsi), Português (Portuguese), русский (Russian), Tagalog (Filipino), ไทย (Thai), українська (Ukrainian) and Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese).

Citizenship Classes
Citizenship classes are for adults ages 18 and older. We value your privacy and your rights as a resident in Los Angeles. All information is confidential, and all services are free. Please note, we are unable to assist people who live outside of California.
Learn English, civics, and history required to pass the test and become a United States citizen.
Classes are available in Spanish for people who qualify per USCIS to take the citizenship exam in Spanish.
Classes are available in English and have language support in either Spanish, Persian, and Chinese.
Classes are 1.5-3 hours long, once or twice a week for 10-12 weeks.
Class attendees must be Lawful Permanent Residents (*must have a Green Card).
How to Enroll for Citizenship Classes
We have in-person and online class options. Follow the instructions for each below.
For online classes

To register, please choose a class on Mondays or on Thursdays. You will be contacted by the class instructor to confirm your registration. The instructor will provide a confirmed, registered student with class information and a Zoom link. Study materials will be available for pickup at a Library location or mailed to students.
If you
qualify
to take the citizenship exam in Spanish, you can register to attend
online citizenship classes in Spanish.

Online VESL Classes
Vocational ESL (VESL) Classes
VESL classes are for adults ages 18 and older. We value your privacy and your rights as a resident in Los Angeles. All information is confidential, and all services are free. Please note, we are unable to assist people who live outside of California.
Vocational ESL (VESL) classes combine English language instruction with a focus on helping you learn the specific words and phrases used in job-related communication.
Classes are 2-3 hours long, once or twice a week for 10-12 weeks
You will be contacted by the class instructor to confirm your registration.
The instructor will provide a confirmed, registered student with class information and a Zoom link.

USCIS materials in Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Tagalog, and Vietnamese can also be found on the USCIS website. Printed study materials from USCIS are only available in English and in Spanish.
