Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Remedial Science Programme of the University for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.
Candidates must possess at least a minimum of three (3) O'Level Credits in WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE results or its equivalent in the following subjects: Mathematics or Further Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics, and either Biology, Agricultural Science, or Geography to be eligible for admission.

PAYMENT OF SCHOOL CHARGES USING THE UNIVERSITY PORTAL
This is to inform new and returning students that the University ICT has arranged payment of
charges through the University portal. The portal is configured to accommodate payments as follows:
Full payment (100%)
Part payment of 70% during the 1st Semester and 30% during the 2nd Semester
Students who have not paid their charges are requested to make payment through the portal.
New students are also required to fill their biodata and other forms online and print them for submission to the Registration Officers.

US NGO DONATES BOOKS TO FUHSO.
The Federal University of
Health Sciences, Otukpo, (FUHSO), had on the 5th August, 2025, received a consignment of books donated by a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Nigeria Connects, domicile in Dallas, USA.
Speaking at his office on the Otada Campus of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba expressed overwhelming joy, noting that more donations from well-meaning individuals, and organizations are on the way.
The Vice Chancellor, who could not hide his admiration for Prof. Friday Godwin Okibe, Head of the Department of Chemistry, described Okibe as , "uncommon leader", and stated that he, " remain greatly indebted to him."
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO further revealed that better days lie ahead, adding that an organization has pledged to construct an ultramodern laboratory for the university.
The VC maintained that the positive developments at FUHSO under his leadership were not about any individual, but about the system, emphasizing the need for everyone to always put "FUHSO FIRST."
The VC was not alone in the show of gratitude, as the University Bursar, Dr.Paul Hassan Akpa, profusely thanked Prof Okibe, describing him as a " pillar of hope, encouragement, and security" to FUHSO, adding that Okibe is "a galvanizer," always rallying the management to success, encouraging him to continue his good work.
It is worthy of note that these books, which span the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Radiology, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, among others, were facilitated through the collaborative efforts of Prof Friday G. Okibe, in partnership with Dr. Simon Paul, a lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, and Dr. John Paul.
The Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, and the University Librarian, Dr.Taiwo Adetoun Akinde, who were also present at the Vice-Chancellor's office to formally receive the books, expressed their gratitude to the donor.
Nigeria Connects Incorporated is a Non Governmental Organization headquartered at Dallas, Georgia, USA , the organization focuses on education, health, and prison rehabilitation initiatives in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Professor Francis Aba Uba, on October 30, 2025, received in audience Professors Adelaja Akinlolu (Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies) and Joseph Okopi (Director, Research & Innovation) in his office.
The occasion marked the official presentation of the Erasmus+ KA171 2025 Award, a significant milestone in FUHSO’s growing international research profile. The award, spearheaded by Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu, represents the successful culmination of a collaborative research effort between FUHSO and Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark.
A renowned scholar and global researcher, Prof. Uba commended Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu for his commitment and success, while also appreciating the support of Aalborg University officials. He reaffirmed FUHSO’s readiness to deepen partnerships with universities of repute worldwide.
The three-year research project focuses on overcoming the resistance effects of the Blood-Brain Barrier, a major scientific challenge in the development of effective treatments of the disorders of the nervous system. This prestigious recognition provides FUHSO with a unique opportunity to demonstrate the innovative potential and research excellence within its academic community, while strengthening global collaborations with top-tier institutions.
Prof. Akinlolu expressed deep gratitude to his research partner, Aalborg University, and particularly to the staff of its International Office, for their invaluable support in facilitating the grant process.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Francis Aba Uba could not conceal his delight at the breakthrough. He described the Erasmus+ award as “a new dawn for FUHSO and a testament to the university’s growing reputation for excellence and collaboration both locally and internationally.As a gesture of appreciation, the Vice Chancellor read the award letter during the Senate Meeting held on October 30, 2025, at the Otada Campus. He further directed the Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, to issue letters of commendation to Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu and Prof. Joseph Okopi, both recipients of international research grants.
Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu, a distinguished Neuroscientist, and currently serves as the pioneer Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, FUHSO, Benue State.

FUHSO UNVEILS NEW DVC ACADEMICS
Professor Friday Godwin Okibe was born on 8th February, 1971, He had his primary and secondary school education at Wasimi Community Primary School and Wasimi Community High School, Mende, Maryland, Lagos in 1987 and 1992 respectively. He enrolled in the Remedial Science programme of Benue State University, Makurdi in 1993 and gained admission to read Chemistry at the same University in 1994. He graduated with B.Sc. (Hon) Chemistry in 1998 and had his National Youth Service Corps in Enugu State from October 1998 to August 1999. As a result of his passion for knowledge, he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for postgraduate studies, obtaining Masters and PhD degrees in Analytical Chemistry in 2005 and 2014, respectively. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
After his Masters degree, he was employed in August 2006 as an Assistant Lecturer with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and he climbed the rung of university promotion ladder to becoming a Professor in 2021, at the time he joined the services of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. He has served as the pioneer Head, Department of Chemistry, FUHSO. Professor Okibe has also served as postgraduate coordinator, Department of Chemistry, ABU, Zaria, external examiner for postgraduate programmes in many universities including Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Federal University of Technology Minna, Kogi State University, Ayingba and Federal University, Wukari. He is a regular face at local and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars, in addition to being a well published scientist with over ninety peer reviewed articles and conference papers in local and international journals. He is a visiting Resource Person with the World Bank, Africa Centre of Excellence in Food Technology and Research, Benue State University, Makurdi.
Professor Okibe has contributed immensely to the University system, not only in terms of teaching, but he has successfully supervised research works of more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students including twenty completed MSc and ten PhD. At various times, he served as a member of various standing and Ad-Hoc Committees of Department and Faculty, in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Professor Friday Okibe is a Member, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON). He is a professional teacher registered with the Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He was elected in 2023 from Congregation to the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo.
Above all, Professor Okibe is a God-fearing man who has been deeply committed to inspiring and mentoring young men and women to achieving their God-given dreams and aspirations.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is happily married in a matrimony that is blessed with four children.

FUHSO UNVEILS NEW DVC ADMINISTRATION
PROFESSOR CECILIA OMAILE OJABO
Professor Cecilia Omaile Ojabo was born into the family of Late Peter Ogabo Adoyi and Late Maria Oka Okpeke in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria.
She had her Primary education at Saint Francis Primary School, Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria. She attended Government Girls Secondary School Shendam, then Benue-Plateau State, Nigeria for her Secondary education and was the Head Girl in her final year. She had her Advanced level education at the Murtala College of Science and Technology, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. She gained admission to the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria and obtained her MBBS degree in 1985. She later proceeded to the Tennant Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, Scotland and the West African Postgraduate Medical College for her Postgraduate studies in Ophthalmology. She was awarded the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Ophthalmology in 2000.
Professor Ojabo has been working in Nigeria since 1987, after her National Youth Service Corps in Lafia General Hospital then in Plateau State. She has worked at the General Hospital, Makurdi and the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi where she rose to become Consultant Ophthalmologist and Head of Department of Ophthalmology for several years. She transferred her service to the Benue State University in 2007 and became the pioneer Head of Department of Ophthalmology of the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University and Honorary Consultant/Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi. She was a one time Deputy Dean of Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the College of Health Sciences. She was Ag. Head of the Department of Ophthalmology for several years and became an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in 2014. She teaches medical students and Resident Doctors in Ophthalmology.
She was appointed Commissioner for Health and Human Services of Benue State Government between 2015 and 2018 after which she went back to the College of Health Sciences and served as Ag. Head of Department of Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant/Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi. Her main sub-specialty is Paediatric Ophthalmology; though, she has interest in eye injuries and trauma and Community Eye Outreaches.
Professor Ojabo joined the services of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria in 2020. She was the pioneer Head of Department of Ophthalmology in FUHSO. Professor Ojabo is an Honorary Consultant of Ophthalmology at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, Benue State and also a Council Member, representing Senate in the Federal University of Science Governing Council.
She has attended numerous scientific conferences and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals nationally and internationally.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), is married to Professor Leo Daniel Ojabo and they are blessed with children and grandchildren.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr Michael Ogiji, on behalf of the University Community, pledged unflinching support to the leadership of the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Uba.
The session was captivating and lively as the solidarity chorus chants from Staff and Students admired by the management, including the Registrar - Mister Michael Okoko Ogiji, FIPMD, FCAI; Bursar, Dr Paul Hassan Akpa, FCNA , ACTI, FCA; University Librarian, Dr Mrs Taiwo Adetoun Akinde, MNLA, CLN; Director of Academic Planning and Control, Professor Edache Sylvanus Okpe; Professor Selina Okolo; HOD Chemistry - Professor Friday Godwin Okibe; Director, Institute of Global Health and Health Security - Professor Audu Onyemocho; Dean, Students' Affairs Professor Michael Enokela Efu; HOD, microbiology - Dr Peter Adikwu; Chief Security Officer, CSO, Mister Michael Anebi, etcetera etcetera.
The formal handover ceremony to the new Vice-Chancellor, would be done at a later date by the former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Obekpa Abah.

He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Alia administration, particularly in light of the challenges Benue State has faced over the past years of the Hards men insurgency. Governor Alia also commended the Chairperson of the Borno State Education Trust Fund for ensuring the timely delivery of the project and the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo for its resilience in the face of crises.
He assured the institution 's continued support for the education sector and encouraged the Students to study diligently, assuring them that the Government and the University's leadership would continue to support their academic journey and future aspirations.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Health Scienece Otukpo, Professor Francis Uba, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Alia and the Benue State government. He acknowledged the numerous ways the State Government has supported the University and praised its commitment to advancing education in Benue State.

Pioneering Entrepreneurial Program

The Entrepreneurial Program will offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes courses in business strategy, finance, marketing, and product development. In addition to classroom learning, students will have access to workshops, mentorship opportunities, and networking events. The program also features a startup incubator, providing resources and support for students to bring their business ideas to life.
FUHSO NEW BURSAR OFFICIALLY TAKES OVER
The newly appointed bursar of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, Dr Paul Hassan Akpa, FCNA, ACTI, FCA has officially taken over from his predecessor, Mister John Alechenu Aba, with a pledge to be professional and contribute his quota to the development of the University.
Performing the handover exercise at the Otada campus on Monday, May 19th, 2025, Chief Paul Akpa said that he has brought experience and expertise to advance the course of bursary in the institution, calling on the bursary staff to be professional, hence, life is in faces, maintaining that the only constant thing in life is change, and urged the staff to continue to respect the former bursar who has played his part.
The Kogi born financial expert noted that " it's good to be good and do things right. You must do your best to be hardworking to grow in strength and knowledge for yourself and the University but most importantly, shun rumour mongering", chief Akpa tasked staff.
The smiling and jovial bursar, thanked his predecessor for successfully completing his five a year tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Earlier, the former bursar, Mr Aba, while presenting the handover note to the second substantive bursar of the institution, explained that his experience was very challenging, advised the staff to remain supportive and cooperate with his successor to succeed. Mr Aba, who equally introduced the physical staff of the bursary to the new bursar, thanked his leaders and the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve.
The new Bursar holds a B.Sc and Masters degree in Accountancy from Salem University, Lokoja and Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Dr Akpa who is the Omachi Attah of the Igala kingdom, also holds a Fellow, Africa Institute of Public Administration, AIPA, Accra, Ghana.
The quinquagenarian who hails from Ankpa, bagged two honorary doctorate degrees from the London Business School, United Kingdom and University of Nicosia Cyprus, respectively.
He was the immediate past bursar of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, adjudged a leading star amongst his contemporaries.
Chief Paul Hassan Akpa was appointed the second substantive bursar of the citadel of leaning on May 13th, 2025 by the Governing Council of FUHSO.
It's believed that Dr Paul Akpa will bring his wealth of experience to function adequately in his new assignment at FUHSO.

MEDICS IN BOOTS SPLASHES PRIZES ON FUHSO STUDENTS
The _Medics in Boots_ is a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), which specializes on education, health and entertainment as well as creation of awareness on key medical challenges affecting medical students across medical institutions in Nigeria.
It is against the foregoing that the NGO visited the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) on Friday, August 15, 2025 and splashed cash prizes on the deserving students who were outstanding in the debate and quiz competitions.
The Coordinator of the _Medics in Boots_ , Dr. Felix Obekpa in his opening speech at the event, explained that, the idea was borne out of his desire to give back to the society and to stimulate interest in learning and research, particularly among medical students in Nigerian Universities.He emphasized that the programme at FUHSO was a continuation of the "Medical Challenge" previously held in universities across the country.
Earlier, the Director of the Directorate of Students' Affairs, Dr. Peter Adikwu, commended the pragmatism of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba, for granting expeditious approval to the highly enriching academic quiz programme. He further urged the students to take advantage of the programme and make the most of it.
The convener, Dr Obekpa, on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, in the company of the University's media team visited the Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Uba; Registrar, Mr. Michael Ogiji; Bursar, Dr.Paul Akpa; University Librarian, Dr. Taiwo Akinde; the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof Edwin Ogwuche; and the Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Peter Adikwu, describing the initiative as a welcome development.

FUHSO PIONEER MEDICAL STUDENTS Applaud VC's Giant Strides
The pioneer students of Medicine and Surgery had on Monday, 25th August paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the premier University of Health Sciences in Nigeria, Prof . Francis Aba Uba at the Council Chamber, Otada Campus.
In his opening speech, the Students' Representative of the pioneer MBBS class, Mr. Idu Samuel, on behalf of the students appreciated the Vice Chancellor on account of his achievements recorded within a short time he holds sway, urging him to sustain the momentum. He stated that the entire FUHSO students are praying for him to succeed in the arduous task of bringing the university out of the mire of underdevelopment to a hub of excellence in medical training
and research.
In a similar vein, Mr. Oluwatobi Isaac, lauded the ubiquitous achievements of the VC, noting that the strides are gargantuan as it resonates with the students and the university community.
Meanwhile, the students had expressed concerned over the protracted accreditation of the MBBS by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria ( MDCN), mentorship, sporting activities and merging of classes.
In his response, Prof. Uba thanked the students for their recognition, assuring them that his administration remained focused on delivering excellence in medical training, research, and innovation.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the state of affairs he encountered on assuming office was deeply appalling. He, however, allay the fears of the students as he informed them that he would bend over backwards to ensure that the anomalies are corrected to pave way for full accreditation of all FUHSO courses.
The renowned clinical surgeon intimated the ecstatic students that the school fees have been drastically reduced, stating that they would be properly mentored during their clinicals.
He further revealed that he was optimistic that before the year runs out, the Multi-user laboratory at the University Teaching Hospital would be completed and put into use for clinicals.
On the need for sporting activities, the Vice Chancellor said that in no distant future, FUHSO would be co-opted into the Nigerian Universities Games Association ( NUGA), as he averred that sports are integral part of university education.
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO maintained that his management team is irrevocably committed to moving FUHSO forward, as he acknowledged the support of the university's Governing Council in solving the myriads of challenges bedeviling FUHSO.
The parley can best be described as robust and convivial as the atmosphere was enchanting and captivating. The medical students unanimously gave a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor, stating that the strides he made within a short while in the saddle was breathtaking, encouraging him not to be distracted.
The students who could not contain their admiration for the Vice Chancellor's doggedness, erupted in songs as they described him as " a father, like no other one".
The meeting came to a close with a call by the VC, encouraging the students to remain vigilant, discipline, and focused, noting that his doors are always open to receive them without preamble.

FUHSO GOV COUNCIL INTERFACES WITH VARSITY COMMUNITY
The Governing Council, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, on Monday, July 21, 2025, interacted with the University Community with the aim of moving the university forward.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Mohammed Salihu Audu, FMAN, in his address, thanked the University Community for their commitment to duty and understanding inspite of challenges, assuring that the Council was taking steps to making learning and the working environment comfortable for both Staff and students of FUHSO, emphasizing that the Council has increased the presence of security operatives in and around the University environs.
The renowned Professor of mathematics noted with delight that the University would move to its permanent site soon to pave way for opportunities for both Staff and Students, particularly, new applicants seeking admission into the University in line with the requirements of the National Universities Commission, NUC.
The former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, further added that the Council has approved the VC’s request to reduce the University's school fees and other sundry charges, thereby lifting weights off the shoulders of parents, amidst thunderous applause by the staff.
Meanwhile , the Pro-Chancellor admonished staff to always explore internal conflict resolution mechanism to resolve disputes, as he urged the affected Staff who sued FUHSO to court to withdraw the case without further ado.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FUHSO, Professor Francis Aba Uba, while welcoming the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and his members, commended the Council under the revered Professor of mathematics for the interface, describing it as unique and crucial.
The VC, a renowned clinician, told the University Community that management is doing everything possible to address issues affecting both Staff and students of the University, reassuring that the unpaid staff of the University would smile to the banks soon, saying that the University had completed its part necessary for their payments and sued for patience and support.
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO maintained that the university under his watch would leave no stone unturned, until the university attains its pride of place among her contemporaries, acknowledging that his recent leadership shakeup was intended to regig and breathe life into the system, and called for understanding of the affected Staff as the changes is a continuous exercise.
"We're just nine weeks in office, and we've hit the ground running..." Professor Uba implored. The VC further appealed to the university community to put the institution first, and strive to make it a surprise and delight to all. He introduced “FUHSO first” and “Great FUHSO” as the slogans for the university, and this was greeted with a resounding applause by both the students and staff of the university as the venue was charged and electrified with excitement by all.
There were questions and answers session involving both Academic and non-Academic staff of the university . The members of the Governing Council, Principal Officers, and management of the University were in attendance.

US NGO DONATES BOOKS TO FUHSO
The Federal University of
Health Sciences, Otukpo, (FUHSO), had on the 5th August, 2025, received a consignment of books donated by a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Nigeria Connects, domicile in Dallas, USA.
Speaking at his office on the Otada Campus of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba expressed overwhelming joy, noting that more donations from well-meaning individuals, and organizations are on the way.
The Vice Chancellor, who could not hide his admiration for Prof. Friday Godwin Okibe, Head of the Department of Chemistry, described Okibe as , "uncommon leader", and stated that he, " remain greatly indebted to him."
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO further revealed that better days lie ahead, adding that an organization has pledged to construct an ultramodern laboratory for the university.
The VC maintained that the positive developments at FUHSO under his leadership were not about any individual, but about the system, emphasizing the need for everyone to always put "FUHSO FIRST.
The VC was not alone in the show of gratitude, as the University Bursar, Dr.Paul Hassan Akpa, profusely thanked Prof Okibe, describing him as a " pillar of hope, encouragement, and security" to FUHSO, adding that Okibe is "a galvanizer," always rallying the management to success, encouraging him to continue his good work.
It is worthy of note that these books, which span the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Radiology, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, among others, were facilitated through the collaborative efforts of Prof Friday G. Okibe, in partnership with Dr. Simon Paul, a lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, and Dr. John Paul.
The Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, and the University Librarian, Dr.Taiwo Adetoun Akinde, who were also present at the Vice-Chancellor's office to formally receive the books, expressed their gratitude to the donor.

NORTHERN FORUM PRESENTS GIFT TO VC, FUHSO.
The Benue State Coordinator of the Northern Nigerian Youths Leaders' Forum, Comrade Martin Zoho had on the 3rd June, 2025, presented a congratulatory gift to the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, Professor Francis Aba Uba, during a visit to the new VC at the Otada campus of the University.
The visit which had in attendance the University Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, the University Bursar, Dr. Paul Akpa, the HOD - Chemistry, Prof. Friday Okibe, and others can be described as memorable.
Speaking, the VC, Prof. Francis Uba deeply expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the coordinator of the forum, Comrade Martin Zoho for the recognition.
Comrade Martin who was also a former Deputy Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, in an interview with the information crew of the University, described the VC as a megaphone of the Nigerian Youths.
Martin described Professor Uba as a great leader, an achiever with impeccable academic credentials, noting that the body he represents had a knack for identifying and celebrating leaders who had distinguished themselves, such as the VC of FUHSO, Professor Francis Uba.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Remedial Science Programme of the University for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.
Candidates must possess at least a minimum of three (3) O'Level Credits in WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE results or its equivalent in the following subjects: Mathematics or Further Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics, and either Biology, Agricultural Science, or Geography to be eligible for admission.

PAYMENT OF SCHOOL CHARGES USING THE UNIVERSITY PORTAL
This is to inform new and returning students that the University ICT has arranged payment of
charges through the University portal. The portal is configured to accommodate payments as follows:
Full payment (100%)
Part payment of 70% during the 1st Semester and 30% during the 2nd Semester
Students who have not paid their charges are requested to make payment through the portal.
New students are also required to fill their biodata and other forms online and print them for submission to the Registration Officers.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Professor Francis Aba Uba, on October 30, 2025, received in audience Professors Adelaja Akinlolu (Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies) and Joseph Okopi (Director, Research & Innovation) in his office.
The occasion marked the official presentation of the Erasmus+ KA171 2025 Award, a significant milestone in FUHSO’s growing international research profile. The award, spearheaded by Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu, represents the successful culmination of a collaborative research effort between FUHSO and Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark.
A renowned scholar and global researcher, Prof. Uba commended Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu for his commitment and success, while also appreciating the support of Aalborg University officials. He reaffirmed FUHSO’s readiness to deepen partnerships with universities of repute worldwide.
The three-year research project focuses on overcoming the resistance effects of the Blood-Brain Barrier, a major scientific challenge in the development of effective treatments of the disorders of the nervous system. This prestigious recognition provides FUHSO with a unique opportunity to demonstrate the innovative potential and research excellence within its academic community, while strengthening global collaborations with top-tier institutions.
Prof. Akinlolu expressed deep gratitude to his research partner, Aalborg University, and particularly to the staff of its International Office, for their invaluable support in facilitating the grant process.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Francis Aba Uba could not conceal his delight at the breakthrough. He described the Erasmus+ award as “a new dawn for FUHSO and a testament to the university’s growing reputation for excellence and collaboration both locally and internationally.As a gesture of appreciation, the Vice Chancellor read the award letter during the Senate Meeting held on October 30, 2025, at the Otada Campus. He further directed the Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, to issue letters of commendation to Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu and Prof. Joseph Okopi, both recipients of international research grants.
Prof. Adelaja Akinlolu, a distinguished Neuroscientist, and currently serves as the pioneer Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, FUHSO, Benue State.

FUHSO UNVEILS NEW DVC ACADEMICS
Professor Friday Godwin Okibe was born on 8th February, 1971, He had his primary and secondary school education at Wasimi Community Primary School and Wasimi Community High School, Mende, Maryland, Lagos in 1987 and 1992 respectively. He enrolled in the Remedial Science programme of Benue State University, Makurdi in 1993 and gained admission to read Chemistry at the same University in 1994. He graduated with B.Sc. (Hon) Chemistry in 1998 and had his National Youth Service Corps in Enugu State from October 1998 to August 1999. As a result of his passion for knowledge, he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for postgraduate studies, obtaining Masters and PhD degrees in Analytical Chemistry in 2005 and 2014, respectively. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
After his Masters degree, he was employed in August 2006 as an Assistant Lecturer with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and he climbed the rung of university promotion ladder to becoming a Professor in 2021, at the time he joined the services of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. He has served as the pioneer Head, Department of Chemistry, FUHSO. Professor Okibe has also served as postgraduate coordinator, Department of Chemistry, ABU, Zaria, external examiner for postgraduate programmes in many universities including Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Federal University of Technology Minna, Kogi State University, Ayingba and Federal University, Wukari. He is a regular face at local and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars, in addition to being a well published scientist with over ninety peer reviewed articles and conference papers in local and international journals. He is a visiting Resource Person with the World Bank, Africa Centre of Excellence in Food Technology and Research, Benue State University, Makurdi.
Professor Okibe has contributed immensely to the University system, not only in terms of teaching, but he has successfully supervised research works of more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students including twenty completed MSc and ten PhD. At various times, he served as a member of various standing and Ad-Hoc Committees of Department and Faculty, in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Professor Friday Okibe is a Member, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON). He is a professional teacher registered with the Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He was elected in 2023 from Congregation to the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo.
Above all, Professor Okibe is a God-fearing man who has been deeply committed to inspiring and mentoring young men and women to achieving their God-given dreams and aspirations.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is happily married in a matrimony that is blessed with four children.

FUHSO UNVEILS NEW DVC ADMINISTRATION
PROFESSOR CECILIA OMAILE OJABO
Professor Cecilia Omaile Ojabo was born into the family of Late Peter Ogabo Adoyi and Late Maria Oka Okpeke in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria.
She had her Primary education at Saint Francis Primary School, Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria. She attended Government Girls Secondary School Shendam, then Benue-Plateau State, Nigeria for her Secondary education and was the Head Girl in her final year. She had her Advanced level education at the Murtala College of Science and Technology, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. She gained admission to the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria and obtained her MBBS degree in 1985. She later proceeded to the Tennant Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, Scotland and the West African Postgraduate Medical College for her Postgraduate studies in Ophthalmology. She was awarded the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Ophthalmology in 2000.
Professor Ojabo has been working in Nigeria since 1987, after her National Youth Service Corps in Lafia General Hospital then in Plateau State. She has worked at the General Hospital, Makurdi and the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi where she rose to become Consultant Ophthalmologist and Head of Department of Ophthalmology for several years. She transferred her service to the Benue State University in 2007 and became the pioneer Head of Department of Ophthalmology of the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University and Honorary Consultant/Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi. She was a one time Deputy Dean of Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the College of Health Sciences. She was Ag. Head of the Department of Ophthalmology for several years and became an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in 2014. She teaches medical students and Resident Doctors in Ophthalmology.
She was appointed Commissioner for Health and Human Services of Benue State Government between 2015 and 2018 after which she went back to the College of Health Sciences and served as Ag. Head of Department of Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant/Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi. Her main sub-specialty is Paediatric Ophthalmology; though, she has interest in eye injuries and trauma and Community Eye Outreaches.
Professor Ojabo joined the services of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria in 2020. She was the pioneer Head of Department of Ophthalmology in FUHSO. Professor Ojabo is an Honorary Consultant of Ophthalmology at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, Benue State and also a Council Member, representing Senate in the Federal University of Science Governing Council.
She has attended numerous scientific conferences and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals nationally and internationally.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), is married to Professor Leo Daniel Ojabo and they are blessed with children and grandchildren.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr Michael Ogiji, on behalf of the University Community, pledged unflinching support to the leadership of the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Uba.
The session was captivating and lively as the solidarity chorus chants from Staff and Students admired by the management, including the Registrar - Mister Michael Okoko Ogiji, FIPMD, FCAI; Bursar, Dr Paul Hassan Akpa, FCNA , ACTI, FCA; University Librarian, Dr Mrs Taiwo Adetoun Akinde, MNLA, CLN; Director of Academic Planning and Control, Professor Edache Sylvanus Okpe; Professor Selina Okolo; HOD Chemistry - Professor Friday Godwin Okibe; Director, Institute of Global Health and Health Security - Professor Audu Onyemocho; Dean, Students' Affairs Professor Michael Enokela Efu; HOD, microbiology - Dr Peter Adikwu; Chief Security Officer, CSO, Mister Michael Anebi, etcetera etcetera.
The formal handover ceremony to the new Vice-Chancellor, would be done at a later date by the former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Obekpa Abah.

He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Alia administration, particularly in light of the challenges Benue State has faced over the past years of the Hards men insurgency. Governor Alia also commended the Chairperson of the Borno State Education Trust Fund for ensuring the timely delivery of the project and the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo for its resilience in the face of crises.
He assured the institution 's continued support for the education sector and encouraged the Students to study diligently, assuring them that the Government and the University's leadership would continue to support their academic journey and future aspirations.

FUHSO NEW BURSAR OFFICIALLY TAKES OVER
The newly appointed bursar of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, Dr Paul Hassan Akpa, FCNA, ACTI, FCA has officially taken over from his predecessor, Mister John Alechenu Aba, with a pledge to be professional and contribute his quota to the development of the University.
Performing the handover exercise at the Otada campus on Monday, May 19th, 2025, Chief Paul Akpa said that he has brought experience and expertise to advance the course of bursary in the institution, calling on the bursary staff to be professional, hence, life is in faces, maintaining that the only constant thing in life is change, and urged the staff to continue to respect the former bursar who has played his part.
The Kogi born financial expert noted that " it's good to be good and do things right. You must do your best to be hardworking to grow in strength and knowledge for yourself and the University but most importantly, shun rumour mongering", chief Akpa tasked staff.
The smiling and jovial bursar, thanked his predecessor for successfully completing his five a year tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Earlier, the former bursar, Mr Aba, while presenting the handover note to the second substantive bursar of the institution, explained that his experience was very challenging, advised the staff to remain supportive and cooperate with his successor to succeed. Mr Aba, who equally introduced the physical staff of the bursary to the new bursar, thanked his leaders and the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve.
The new Bursar holds a B.Sc and Masters degree in Accountancy from Salem University, Lokoja and Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Dr Akpa who is the Omachi Attah of the Igala kingdom, also holds a Fellow, Africa Institute of Public Administration, AIPA, Accra, Ghana.
The quinquagenarian who hails from Ankpa, bagged two honorary doctorate degrees from the London Business School, United Kingdom and University of Nicosia Cyprus, respectively.
He was the immediate past bursar of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, adjudged a leading star amongst his contemporaries.
Chief Paul Hassan Akpa was appointed the second substantive bursar of the citadel of leaning on May 13th, 2025 by the Governing Council of FUHSO.
It's believed that Dr Paul Akpa will bring his wealth of experience to function adequately in his new assignment at FUHSO.

MEDICS IN BOOTS SPLASHES PRIZES ON FUHSO STUDENTS
The _Medics in Boots_ is a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), which specializes on education, health and entertainment as well as creation of awareness on key medical challenges affecting medical students across medical institutions in Nigeria.
It is against the foregoing that the NGO visited the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) on Friday, August 15, 2025 and splashed cash prizes on the deserving students who were outstanding in the debate and quiz competitions.
The Coordinator of the _Medics in Boots_ , Dr. Felix Obekpa in his opening speech at the event, explained that, the idea was borne out of his desire to give back to the society and to stimulate interest in learning and research, particularly among medical students in Nigerian Universities.He emphasized that the programme at FUHSO was a continuation of the "Medical Challenge" previously held in universities across the country.
Earlier, the Director of the Directorate of Students' Affairs, Dr. Peter Adikwu, commended the pragmatism of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba, for granting expeditious approval to the highly enriching academic quiz programme. He further urged the students to take advantage of the programme and make the most of it.
The convener, Dr Obekpa, on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, in the company of the University's media team visited the Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Uba; Registrar, Mr. Michael Ogiji; Bursar, Dr.Paul Akpa; University Librarian, Dr. Taiwo Akinde; the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof Edwin Ogwuche; and the Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Peter Adikwu, describing the initiative as a welcome development.

FUHSO PIONEER MEDICAL STUDENTS Applaud VC's Giant Strides
The pioneer students of Medicine and Surgery had on Monday, 25th August paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the premier University of Health Sciences in Nigeria, Prof . Francis Aba Uba at the Council Chamber, Otada Campus.
In his opening speech, the Students' Representative of the pioneer MBBS class, Mr. Idu Samuel, on behalf of the students appreciated the Vice Chancellor on account of his achievements recorded within a short time he holds sway, urging him to sustain the momentum. He stated that the entire FUHSO students are praying for him to succeed in the arduous task of bringing the university out of the mire of underdevelopment to a hub of excellence in medical training
and research.
In a similar vein, Mr. Oluwatobi Isaac, lauded the ubiquitous achievements of the VC, noting that the strides are gargantuan as it resonates with the students and the university community.
Meanwhile, the students had expressed concerned over the protracted accreditation of the MBBS by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria ( MDCN), mentorship, sporting activities and merging of classes.
In his response, Prof. Uba thanked the students for their recognition, assuring them that his administration remained focused on delivering excellence in medical training, research, and innovation.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the state of affairs he encountered on assuming office was deeply appalling. He, however, allay the fears of the students as he informed them that he would bend over backwards to ensure that the anomalies are corrected to pave way for full accreditation of all FUHSO courses.
The renowned clinical surgeon intimated the ecstatic students that the school fees have been drastically reduced, stating that they would be properly mentored during their clinicals.
He further revealed that he was optimistic that before the year runs out, the Multi-user laboratory at the University Teaching Hospital would be completed and put into use for clinicals.
On the need for sporting activities, the Vice Chancellor said that in no distant future, FUHSO would be co-opted into the Nigerian Universities Games Association ( NUGA), as he averred that sports are integral part of university education.
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO maintained that his management team is irrevocably committed to moving FUHSO forward, as he acknowledged the support of the university's Governing Council in solving the myriads of challenges bedeviling FUHSO.
The parley can best be described as robust and convivial as the atmosphere was enchanting and captivating. The medical students unanimously gave a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor, stating that the strides he made within a short while in the saddle was breathtaking, encouraging him not to be distracted.
The students who could not contain their admiration for the Vice Chancellor's doggedness, erupted in songs as they described him as " a father, like no other one".
The meeting came to a close with a call by the VC, encouraging the students to remain vigilant, discipline, and focused, noting that his doors are always open to receive them without preamble.

FUHSO GOV COUNCIL INTERFACES WITH VARSITY COMMUNITY
The Governing Council, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, on Monday, July 21, 2025, interacted with the University Community with the aim of moving the university forward.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Mohammed Salihu Audu, FMAN, in his address, thanked the University Community for their commitment to duty and understanding inspite of challenges, assuring that the Council was taking steps to making learning and the working environment comfortable for both Staff and students of FUHSO, emphasizing that the Council has increased the presence of security operatives in and around the University environs.
The renowned Professor of mathematics noted with delight that the University would move to its permanent site soon to pave way for opportunities for both Staff and Students, particularly, new applicants seeking admission into the University in line with the requirements of the National Universities Commission, NUC.
The former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, further added that the Council has approved the VC’s request to reduce the University's school fees and other sundry charges, thereby lifting weights off the shoulders of parents, amidst thunderous applause by the staff.
Meanwhile , the Pro-Chancellor admonished staff to always explore internal conflict resolution mechanism to resolve disputes, as he urged the affected Staff who sued FUHSO to court to withdraw the case without further ado.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FUHSO, Professor Francis Aba Uba, while welcoming the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and his members, commended the Council under the revered Professor of mathematics for the interface, describing it as unique and crucial.
The VC, a renowned clinician, told the University Community that management is doing everything possible to address issues affecting both Staff and students of the University, reassuring that the unpaid staff of the University would smile to the banks soon, saying that the University had completed its part necessary for their payments and sued for patience and support.
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO maintained that the university under his watch would leave no stone unturned, until the university attains its pride of place among her contemporaries, acknowledging that his recent leadership shakeup was intended to regig and breathe life into the system, and called for understanding of the affected Staff as the changes is a continuous exercise.
"We're just nine weeks in office, and we've hit the ground running..." Professor Uba implored. The VC further appealed to the university community to put the institution first, and strive to make it a surprise and delight to all. He introduced “FUHSO first” and “Great FUHSO” as the slogans for the university, and this was greeted with a resounding applause by both the students and staff of the university as the venue was charged and electrified with excitement by all.
There were questions and answers session involving both Academic and non-Academic staff of the university . The members of the Governing Council, Principal Officers, and management of the University were in attendance.

US NGO DONATES BOOKS TO FUHSO
The Federal University of
Health Sciences, Otukpo, (FUHSO), had on the 5th August, 2025, received a consignment of books donated by a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Nigeria Connects, domicile in Dallas, USA.
Speaking at his office on the Otada Campus of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba expressed overwhelming joy, noting that more donations from well-meaning individuals, and organizations are on the way.
The Vice Chancellor, who could not hide his admiration for Prof. Friday Godwin Okibe, Head of the Department of Chemistry, described Okibe as , "uncommon leader", and stated that he, " remain greatly indebted to him."
The Chief Executive Officer of FUHSO further revealed that better days lie ahead, adding that an organization has pledged to construct an ultramodern laboratory for the university.
The VC maintained that the positive developments at FUHSO under his leadership were not about any individual, but about the system, emphasizing the need for everyone to always put "FUHSO FIRST.
The VC was not alone in the show of gratitude, as the University Bursar, Dr.Paul Hassan Akpa, profusely thanked Prof Okibe, describing him as a " pillar of hope, encouragement, and security" to FUHSO, adding that Okibe is "a galvanizer," always rallying the management to success, encouraging him to continue his good work.
It is worthy of note that these books, which span the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Radiology, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, among others, were facilitated through the collaborative efforts of Prof Friday G. Okibe, in partnership with Dr. Simon Paul, a lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, and Dr. John Paul.
The Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, and the University Librarian, Dr.Taiwo Adetoun Akinde, who were also present at the Vice-Chancellor's office to formally receive the books, expressed their gratitude to the donor.
Nigeria Connects Incorporated is a Non Governmental Organization headquartered at Dallas, Georgia, USA , the organization focuses on education, health, and prison rehabilitation initiatives in Nigeria.

NORTHERN FORUM PRESENTS GIFT TO VC, FUHSO.
The Benue State Coordinator of the Northern Nigerian Youths Leaders' Forum, Comrade Martin Zoho had on the 3rd June, 2025, presented a congratulatory gift to the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, Professor Francis Aba Uba, during a visit to the new VC at the Otada campus of the University.
The visit which had in attendance the University Registrar, Mr. Mike Ogiji, the University Bursar, Dr. Paul Akpa, the HOD - Chemistry, Prof. Friday Okibe, and others can be described as memorable.
Speaking, the VC, Prof. Francis Uba deeply expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the coordinator of the forum, Comrade Martin Zoho for the recognition.
Comrade Martin who was also a former Deputy Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, in an interview with the information crew of the University, described the VC as a megaphone of the Nigerian Youths.
Martin described Professor Uba as a great leader, an achiever with impeccable academic credentials, noting that the body he represents had a knack for identifying and celebrating leaders who had distinguished themselves, such as the VC of FUHSO, Professor Francis Uba.
