Planetarium
Temporarily Closed for Renovations
The ASU Planetarium is
temporarily closed
due to ongoing renovations to the Vincent Building and the Planetarium. We expect to
reopen in the fall
. Please check back for updates.
Thank you for your patience as we improve the visitor experience.
Welcome to the ASU Planetarium.
Explore the stars, planets and wonders of space in one of the coolest places on campus! Located on the first floor of the
Vincent Building
, the ASU Planetarium features a giant tilted-dome screen that makes you feel like you’re flying through space.
Our 50-foot dome is one of only eight like it in the world. Coupled with our Sci-Dome HD digital projector, this powerful system lets us display stunning views of the night sky and deep space, creating an immersive experience for every visitor.
And the ASU Planetarium is more than just a theater — it’s also a classroom and a community hub. Students take astronomy, geology and physical science classes here, using the dome as a multimedia, immersive learning space. Plus, we host school groups and public shows when ASU classes are in session. Between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors of all ages attend our programs every year, making the Planetarium one of the biggest community outreach programs on campus.

Our Story
The
Vincent Building
and ASU Planetarium opened in fall 1985. Our first public show was on Dec. 15, 1985, featuring Halley’s Comet, which last appeared in the night sky during 1985–86.
In 2010, we upgraded the Planetarium with new seats and a Sci-Dome HD digital projector, thanks to support from the U.S. Department of Defense. With the distinctive combination of a Sci-Dome HD digital projector and a large tilted-dome theater, we can show over 500 million stars and celestial objects for up to 120 visitors at a time.
We’re proud of our history and excited about what’s next.
