Introduction
The Central library of the university is the hub of academic activities of the University, where students sit from morning to evening everyday throughout the year. It is a well-accepted fact that Library is the pivot of any educational institute. Moreover, an institute without a library is a ship without a rudder. Keeping these facts in view, Ladakh University has set up a central library with rich collection of literary materials on different subjects.
Central library at Leh Campus is a one-story building and has spacious reading halls along with compact stack room. The library has a collection of nearly 4000-5000 volumes- rare as well as latest, besides some current periodicals with back numbers. The library has subscribed to various magazines and newspapers (both local and national). The Central library has a well-furnished and equipped reading room with comfortable chairs and tables to provides an ideal environment to education thirsty and keen seekers of knowledge.
Facilities Available
The library possesses facilities like photocopiers, INFLIBNET like e-Shodhshuddi (a plagiarism detector), e-shodhganga (a reservoir of Indian Thesis), e-shodhsindhu(provides access to e-resources), browsing Centre and 24*7 internet facility. It has Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is a small object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product like books. RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas to enable them to receive and respond to radio-frequency queries from an RFID transceiver.
The library is also providing Patron Traffic Counter (PTC) service which helps us to replace the paper registers placed at entry/exit location with the electronic authentication device, it will also ensure that you get real time reports. It will trigger an alert in case the count of patrons inside the library goes beyond a particular threshold. It also supports Fair Usage Policy by which notifications can be sent in case any patron is misusing the library services.
Entire library is under CCTV surveillance for safeguard of resource and for better management of different facilities available at the library.
