“The Centre for Banking and Insurance Laws (CBIL) at National Law University Odisha (NLUO) is dedicated to fostering higher learning, research, and allied activities in the fields of Banking, Insurance, Insolvency, and Fintech Laws. The Centre’s faculty members have actively engaged in various projects with entities such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Institute of Insolvency Professionals of India. NLUO’s institutional support for collaborations, coupled with administrative flexibilities, has cultivated a culture of academic excellence, underpinned by unparalleled research prowess and acumen.
CBIL has significantly benefited from its alliance with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), culminating in the successful conclusion of a three-month-long certificate course with over 200 participants. The course featured distinguished faculties, members of the Bar, and heads of institutions, enriching sessions through their interactions with students.Furthermore, the Centre successfully conducted an essay competition on Insolvency Law with support from the IBBI.”
Vision & Mission
CBIL endeavours to nurture a culture of critical analysis, focusing on deepening understanding of policies, regulatory mechanisms, and other legal domains at the state, national, and international levels.
Objectives
To conduct research in the areas of Banking and Insurance Laws in order to develop new insights of scholarly value and relevance.
To facilitate discussion on Banking and Insurance Laws by providing a platform for the exchange of ideas.
To organize capacity development programs by engaging stakeholders.
To offer advisory services in Banking and Insurance Laws.
To engage with regulators and statutory bodies for conducting research and allied activities.

2024
Double credit course on ‘Practical Aspects of Insolvency Law’ offered by National Law University of Odisha in collaboration with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (January 2024 – April 2024, 200+ participants).
NLUO’s First Annual International Conference on Finance, Economics, Banking & Insolvency Laws (September 2024).
Launch of “The Finance Watch: An Annual Compendium of Banking and Insurance Law Updates (2022-2024)”.

Started our LinkedIn Page
Started with weekly “Ticker Tapes” which an objective of presenting weekly updates on Banking and Insurance Laws in a concise form to our readers.
Re-launched our month newsletter by the name, “Newsletter on Development in Banking and Insurance Laws” having ISSN Number- 2395-7727
2020-2021
Published a “White Paper” on CBIL Page on NLUO Website on the topic, “Impact of Covid-19 On Banking Sector In India.”

CBIL has also conducted National Law University Odisha’s First Annual International Conference on Finance, Economics, Banking, and Insolvency Laws in collaboration with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) and National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) on the 7th and 8th of September, 2024. The event received over 200 research submissions, drawing wide participation and interest from across the legal and academic community.

While we do not have a journal, we compensate with a weekly newsletter featuring in-depth analysis and updates on banking and insurance law. Our newsletter is equally demanding, undergoing a rigorous editorial process to ensure high-quality content. Additionally, we produce a special edition for budget analysis, providing expert insights and commentary.

A Memorandum of Association has been executed between National Law University, Odisha and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India. The MOU primarily seeks to achieve the cooperation between the two organisations in regard to the insolvency and bankruptcy related activities.
