About:
The Alaska magazine publication offers news and information about many aspects of living in Alaska. Founded in 1935 in Ketchikan, Alaska by Emery Fridolf Tobin and Ray Roady, the publication was initially titled Alaska Sportsman Magazine and catered primarily to the discussion and photography of fishing, hunting, camping, dog sledding, and other physical ventures. In 1969, a new title, Alaska, was adopted and has remained in use to the present day.

The Don Irwin Collection, provided by Judith Boss, consists of over 2,500 photo prints, slides, negatives, lantern slides, and documents relating to the Matanuska Colony Project and activity at the Matanuska Experiment Farm. The dates of the photographs range from 1898 to 1964, and include pictures taken across Alaska.

The Elsie Blue Photo Collection consists of 446 photos kept in one photo album. Ranging from 1936 to 1940, Elsie’s photo collection depicts her life in Palmer and her travels throughout the territory of Alaska, including Nome, Kodiak, Kanatak, Juneau, and more. As Elsie’s nickname was “Babe,” that reference is seen frequently throughout the album.

The M.D. Snodgrass Collection, provided by Jack Snodgrass, consists of approximately 126 digital photos from a single disc, and 2 scans of a note which details known information of each original photo. Ranging from 1912 to 1961, Snodgrass’s photo collection includes images of early days of the Matanuska and Fairbanks Experiment farms and early homesteaders of the Valley, as well as Cordova, Kodiak, Resurrection Bay, the Yukon, Valdez, and the Kansas State Agricultural College.
