Central Library
Libraries are the backbone of any civilized society and the heart of any
academic institution. The Central Library at Dravidian University occupies
a prominent place among students and faculty.
The Dravidian University Library System consists of a Central Library
supporting teaching, research, and extension programmes of the institution
and promoting Dravidian studies especially in the fields of comparative
Dravidian literature, translation studies, religion, culture, and
indigenous science.
All students, faculty members, and employees of the institution are entitled
to make use of the library facilities on taking library membership.
The Dravidian University Central Library was started in the year 1997
with a small collection of books. Initially, the library was situated
in the camp-office at Kuppam. Later, it was shifted to Periyar Bhavan
in the new campus and housed in Narayana Guru Bhavan.
The present library shifted to its state-of-the-art building on
9
th
August 2018
.
The library is built on an area of
5580 sq.ft
and is
furnished with modern furniture. It is centrally located and easily
accessible to all departments of the campus.
The library serves the information needs of students, research scholars,
teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff, with borrowers numbering
around
1900
.
The Central Library supports teaching, research, and extension programmes
of the University in general and promotes Dravidian studies in particular,
especially in the areas of comparative Dravidian literature, translation
studies, religion, culture, indigenous science, and national integration.
All members of the University community are entitled to access library
resources upon obtaining membership.
