IRHS - Genealogy Iron Range Historical Society Genealogy Interest in family history research is at an all-time high, and assistance from the Society’s volunteers constitutes a large part of the work of the Iron Range Historical Society. This work is very much appreciated by all who request information from IRHS. As part of the Iron Range Historical Society’s archives, there are city directories of people who lived in the larger Range cities from 1899 (the first ever printed) to recent times. Depending on the year of the directory, a person’s name, address, occupation, work address, and/or family members are listed. These are valuable resources for family historians. Over 35,000 obituaries of persons who have lived on the Iron Range have been collected by volunteers. Obituaries are either alphabetized and mounted in physcial binders or digitized and accessible on the computer. The obituaries span from the late 1800s to the present. Furthermore, the Society owns more than 200 Iron Range family and personal histories which were either donated by individuals or compiled by IRHS volunteers. The histories include some prominent Iron Range people and families. As with all IRHS archives, these genealogy items are available to all researchers.
