EUDR Practicalities: A Fast-Track BIC Project
Read the latest update here on the recently announced changes to EUDR (19
th
December 2025
)
Following recent developments, the aim of this BIC project in 2026 continues to be to provide those organisations in the book industry supply chain that are still affected, with practical guidance on how to implement the now amended European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
The EUDR regulation requires that seven commodities (cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, wood, rubber, and cattle, and their derivatives) are deforestation or land degradation free before they can be imported into or exported from the EU. Part of the process requires that affected organisations undertake a due diligence review of their supply chains. For the timber industry and some of its derivative products this means tracing back to the geolocation upon which the trees grew.
Until recently (December 2025), this included printed matter (Chapter 49), which (amongst other items) meant printed books and journals. Chapter 49 is now excluded, and a further delay has also been agreed.
Lists of product types in Chapter 49 (now excluded from EUDR) and Chapter 48 (still included in EUDR):

BIC’s EUDR Project continues in 2026
In light of these developments BIC would like to reassure its members and the wider industry that its 2025 EUDR Deliverables published below will be updated in 2026 to reflect the now agreed and ratified amendments to the legislation.
To this end, the BIC EUDR project will continue in 2026 and is charged with clarifying the recent changes and issuing guidance for those organisations and products in our supply chain that will still be impacted by EUDR.
