Setting up our Year 12 students with key life skills during Wellbeing Program
This term, our Year 12 students have been participating in a variety of educational sessions as part of their Wellbeing Program to prepare them for life after school.
“These learning opportunities have been created and facilitated for our students to continue to build their personal development,”
explains Diana Virgo, Year 12 Coordinator.
During the Wellbeing Program, students have rotated through presentations and workshops, which included them undertaking their CPR Online Training and other practical assessments providing them with skills and certifications beyond the traditional curriculum.
“I found that doing the CPR training was helpful as it helps individuals in situations where CPR is needed,”
says
Year 12 student Alexandra.
Students also engaged in an informative presentation that provided them about the important topics of workplace etiquette, social media, and employability. Alongside this, students contributed to small activities that provided an opportunity to attain micro-credentials.
Student Lenka shared her thoughts on the importance of the program;
“these are life skills and have been useful to learn. It’s a good push-off before we leave Nazareth to go and do our own thing in the real world”.
Lenka continues,
“The employability presentation was beneficial as we are exposed to many ideas we weren’t aware of.
An interesting key learning was that employers would search us on social media, so we learned the importance of maintaining an appropriate social media presence, such as ensuring your profile photo is appropriate”
.
Student Gabi added,
“I found the employability session really helpful, especially because I’m interested in a career within childcare or education; I’d even love to return to Nazareth as a graduate working in OSHC.”

I appreciated the key points in the presentation about applying for work and tips for presenting yourself for your dream job. The LinkedIn information was also very helpful because I wasn’t aware of this platform or how it could help build my career profile,”
Gabi continued.
“We are excited to see the students learn in this capacity and build their employability profile”
shared Mrs Virgo.
Developing the wellbeing learning of our Year 12 students won’t stop here. Students will continue to build their personal development, skills, and knowledge in many areas. They will be engaging in presentations throughout the remainder of the Term about the dangers, impacts, and prevention of concussions, understanding the effects of online gambling and sports betting, learning how to use employment databases, and understanding healthy and unhealthy relationships.
“This term emphasises students’ learning about themselves within the world and how they can continue to build their capacity to thrive,”
says Mrs Virgo.
This type of learning is greatly appreciated by the students, who in only a handful of weeks will be entering the community and workforce as as adult graduates.
“These are skills that I can carry with me and able to assist me in future circumstances”
states student Alexandra.
