Grades 5-8
ransform Your Child's Future at Chapin
Your child's middle school years are pivotal—and at Chapin, we don't just prepare students for high school, we prepare them for life. Our grades 5-8 students develop the sharp critical thinking and analytical skills that today's world demands through rigorous coursework in math, social studies, English, world languages, and science.
But academic excellence is only part of the story. We understand that true success requires emotional intelligence and character. That's why every challenging lesson is paired with the nurturing support your child needs to make confident, healthy decisions throughout their life.
Learning comes alive through our vibrant arts, music, and cultural programs, where students discover their passions and develop creative problem-solving abilities that set them apart.
When it's time for high school, our eighth graders don't face the secondary school application process alone. Our dedicated guidance ensures they secure placement at top-tier schools that match their potential.
The result?
Chapin graduates don't just succeed academically—they emerge as confident, well-rounded individuals with the character and capabilities to excel in any path they choose. This foundation isn't just for their next four years—it's an investment in their lifetime of achievement.

The Chapin Math Advantage
Here's what sets us apart: Most of our graduates enter high school having already conquered Algebra—giving them a competitive edge from day one. But even more importantly, 100% of our students graduate mathematically fearless and fully prepared for whatever mathematical challenges await them.
Because when students work at their highest level, there's no limit to what they can achieve.
Where Curiosity Becomes Discovery
At Chapin, science isn't just a subject—it's an adventure. Every question sparks exploration. Every experiment ignites wonder. Every discovery builds the critical thinking skills that transform students into confident problem-solvers ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges.
Our inquiry-driven approach doesn't just teach science; it teaches students to
think
like scientists. Through hands-on investigation and real-world application, they develop the analytical mindset and scientific reasoning that will serve them throughout their lives—whether they become the next generation of STEAM innovators or simply more informed citizens of our world.
The Journey Through Scientific Wonder
Grade 5: Unlocking Earth's Energy Secrets
How is energy transferred on Earth?
Students become energy detectives, uncovering the hidden connections between potential and kinetic energy while exploring how chemical and physical properties shape our world. They trace energy's path through ecosystems and decode the powerful patterns behind weather formation.
Grade 6: Cosmic Connections
How is Earth related to the universe?
Through captivating hands-on explorations, students journey beyond our planet to investigate celestial objects and wave phenomena. They discover how water moves across our globe and uncover the fascinating ways celestial bodies influence life on Earth.
Grade 7: Time Travelers and Life Builders
How does our Earth's past influence its present and future?
Students become scientific storytellers, connecting the origins of life and genetics to Earth's dramatic geological history. From plate tectonics to natural disasters, they see how the past shapes the present. Each student designs and presents their own original research at our celebrated Curriculum Fair.
Grade 8: Systems Masterclass
How are systems related?
The ultimate scientific challenge: Students dive deep into complex biological systems through hands-on dissections, explore the molecular world of chemical bonding and reactions, and master the fundamental forces that govern our universe. Their learning culminates in designing ingenious Rube Goldberg machines that showcase Newton's laws in action.
The Result:
Graduates who don't just know science—they
live
it, question everything, and approach challenges with the confidence of true scientific thinkers.
Chapin’s Humanities program is the study of the stories, events, and experiences that form our shared--and individual--humanity. Humanities integrates traditional English and Social Studies classes, allowing students to draw content from history, current events, civics, and culture and fuse it with the study of literature, close reading, annotation, grammar, vocabulary, and writing instruction. Through discussion-based learning, students connect historical and social facts with the works of literature they read while building arguments to answer their grade’s essential questions.
Our texts are novels, stories, poems, journalism, videos, historical accounts, and primary sources, which allow us to explore the essential questions:
