The pkgbuild is now considered like a VCS one, this mean it will NOT be bumped for every version, report ONLY build problems not new versions.

Vuescan does not need gtk2 any more - it runs without gtk2 (for me)

Yeah, I can read that this is considered a VCS package, but AUR gives an error when updating to the latest version.
As long as there is a version number in AUR, it goes out of date when a new version is released.
On a side note, the new version is quite different and much nicer than the old version, so a version bump is not really out of place here.

Yes, with
gtk2
and all
wxwidgets
packages removed I got:
$ vuescan
vuescan: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
$ LANG=C pkgfile libgtk-x11-2.0.so
extra/gtk2
All OCR files have been removed

Changes is needed to the PKGBUILD, the OCR files have changed from version 9.8.35 and later. Prior to this they where named ocr_xx.bin, the new ones is called xxx.traineddata.

Does the new Version 9.8 still relies on gtk2? ... and in an e-mail (regarding wayland) hamrick mentioned wxwidgets, which is not in the depends-list?

Yeah it works now. Funnily enough I'm unable to run the downloaded version now. Only this AUR package works... Oh the wonders of closed source software....
EDIT
After a dozen or so emails with Mr. Hamrick I have to say he just doesn't care lmao. Puts the sob story in the "Introducing the VueScan Supporter Program: A New Way to Contribute" blogpost into a whole new context.

Must be something about the rest of the files inside the .rpm this uses. Like the udev rules or something.
