The most detailed criticism came from , who pointed out weaknesses in Bauer's approach and suggested that the available evidence rather suggested a gradual sound change from d > r. Although this alternative hypothesis has found its supporters (Veldhuis 1997/98: 118), the status of Bauer's /dr/-phoneme still remains controversial (Attinger 1993: 143). This paper is one more attempt towards a solution. It will present some new evidence, mostly from the Ur Ill period. It will argue that Sumerian actually did have a separate phoneme but subsequently lost it through a number of sound changes.

Dekiere (NABU 19911110) it is impossible to equate Sippar-rabum with Sippar-Amnanum on the basis of texts BM 96956 (and its partial duplicate BM 96980) and BM 96990, as suggested in NABU 1991/82. In his view the house in Sippar-Amnanum (BM 96956 :5) and the one in Sippar-rabum (BM 96990 :5), both part of the inheritance of Iliismeanni' s children, are two different houses.

Less known, however, is the fact that Sumerian sag ha.za also corresponds to Akkadian resam kullum as an idiom, meaning «to be at the disposal of». Some attestations of this expression are:
