The Atmospheric Model Evaluation Tool (
AMET
) is a publicly available and open-source software developed by the U.S. EPA to facilitate the evaluation of meteorological and air quality models. AMET itself is built using several open-source software packages including R and is dependent on MariaDB database software that is leveraged to store the paired observation and model outputs. The latest version of AMET (v1.6) provides a new web-based approach to performing model evaluation, and the CMAS Center created a public AMI containing AMETv1.6 on AWS to facilitate the use of AMET-Web for the CMAS user community. This webinar will demonstrate how to use AWS Cloud resources to create a virtual machine from the AMETv1.6 AMI with AMET pre-installed, with instructions to configure php scripts to create and visualize air quality (AQ) and meteorology (MET) model-observation plots from a web browser. The AMET database on this AMI is pre-loaded with model-observation paired data for July 2018 (aqExample for CMAQ) and July 2016 (metExamples for WRF, MPAS and MCIP). In addition, the AMI contains paired annual air quality model-observation data from the
EQUATES
: EPA's Air QUAlity TimE Series Project for 2002-2019. This webinar will provide demonstration of using AMET-Web to select the databases, projects, time ranges, species and observation networks and to visualize and interact with the resulting analysis plots for both AQ and MET projects. In addition, the cost of storage and computing resources to deploy AMETv1.6 on AWS will be discussed. The publicly available AMETv1.6 AMI combined with the quick and reproducible deployment of AMET-Web on AWS will enable additional members of the CMAS Community to adopt this for their applications.

The Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) Modeling System combines current knowledge in atmospheric science and air quality modeling with multi-processor computing techniques in an open-source framework to deliver fast, technically sound estimates of ozone, particulates, toxics, and acid deposition.

The Research LINE-source dispersion model for near-surface releases (R-LINE) research grade dispersion model that is currently under development by EPA ORD for near-roadway assessments. R-LINE is a part of EPA ORD's ongoing evaluation of air quality impacts in the near-road environment. The research model is based upon a steady-state Gaussian formulation and is designed to simulate line type source emissions (e.g. mobile sources along roadways) by numerically integrating point source emissions.

The Sparse Matrix Operator Kernel Emissions (SMOKE) Modeling System allows emissions data processing methods to integrate high-performance-computing (HPC) sparse-matrix algorithms. The SMOKE system is a significant addition to the available resources for decision-making about emissions controls for both urban and regional applications. It provides a mechanism for preparing specialized inputs for air quality modeling research, and it makes air quality forecasting possible.

With options for overlaying GIS Shapefiles and observational data onto model output, VERDI offers a range of options for viewing atmospheric modeling data.
