Collaborative Crisis Response and Intervention Training Program
Overview
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Collaborative Crisis Response and Intervention Training (CRIT) Program provides support to state, local, and tribal law enforcement and correctional entities seeking to develop and implement crisis response training programs.
CRIT supports law enforcement partnerships with mental health, substance use disorder, and community service agencies to improve appropriate and effective responses to individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions or intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities and to achieve safe outcomes for all members of the community.
This program provides funding to:
Plan, develop, and/or enhance a best-practice CRIT program for officers using BJA’s
CRIT Curriculum
Develop and/or enhance strategies for using officers and other community service providers trained through BJA’s CRIT Curriculum to deliver appropriate responses during interactions with
individuals in crisis.
Plan and implement other best-practice response models such as co-responder, mobile crisis or mobile response teams, case management, and 911 dispatch models using BJA’s CRIT curriculum.

Training and Technical Assistance
The
CRIT Toolkit
includes resources to support the coordination and delivery of the CRIT curriculum in a law enforcement agency and includes an instructor guide, evaluation materials, and more.
Additionally, BJA’s National Training and Technical Assistance Center provides no-cost training and technical assistance on a wide variety of criminal justice topics to improve the knowledge and skills of criminal justice professionals.
