I am a highly visible public figure currently touring the country. I have produced some of the largest shows on television including Duck Dynasty. I meet all your qualifications. @MaverickMatthews: you're giving me the feeling that you're mistaking the media repository Wikimedia Commons (this site here) with a Wikipedia edition (the place for textual content in article form). Please visit the Wikipedia edition in the language(s) that is/are relevant to you if you want to follow up on your endeavour of an article about yourself. The problem here isn’t my perception of your scope - it’s in the coding of your sites. . I followed all the prompts to “submit a page” for consideration or however it is phased and that’s how I ended up here. Perhaps your gateway to information doesn’t have a clear path to contribution. Anyway I’m kind of over it now. My agents say they will take care of it. You may either help or continue go pigeon hole me. You could have easily just redirected. @OsamuBinDazai: "the Red Arrows" is really vague, can you provide a link to what you are talking about?
Some logos are simple enough to be below the threshold of originality. Those are trademarked but not copyrighted; we can host them.
Also, some Wikipedias host low-resolution non-free logos specifically for use in particular articles; that does not involve this site (Wikimedia Commons). For example, you can see the English-language Wikipedia's policy on this at en:Wikipedia:Logos. - Jmabel ! talk 21:21, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@OsamuBinDazai: the RAF logo, File:Logo of the Royal Air Force.svg, is on Commons as it was judged to be below the threshold of originality, so that shouldn't be a problem. I am just sign up and want to know how to find copyright free content Singharunesh (talk) 03:03, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Singharunesh:
  1. Not a lot is truly copyright-free unless it is very old or very simple (so simple it is not eligible for copyright). I would guess that more than half of Commons content is copyrighted but free-licensed and most of the rest is so old that its copyright has expired.
  2. Generally if you do not really know just what you are doing, looking around the Internet for content that is in the public domain (that is, content that has no copyright) is going to be very frustrating. Probably about 95% of what is on the Internet is copyrighted and not free-licensed.
  3. So I don't think I can answer your question directly, but I'm going to suggest reading COM:THIRD, which might give you a good starting point for thinking about this from a more productive angle.
  4. That said, you might look at https://bsu.libguides.com/c.php?g=1186851&p=8680401 (though I believe they are wrong about Unsplash, which is no longer public domain), or any of a number of other lists of sites you might find by typing public domain sources into a search engine.

Bonjour. Hi.

Il s'agit d'une question technique. It is about a technical issue.
Quand je tente d'ajouter un catégorie pour une image, le système me suggère automatiquement (en grisé) une suite pour ce que je suis en train de taper (fins de mots, de phrases etc) en rapport avec une catégorie déjà existante.
When I try to categorize, the system suggests me some ends of words (in grey) in the window, related to an existing category.
Mais quand je continue à écrire la suggestion se transforme sans raison et efface ce que j'ai déjà écrit, parfois même au milieu d'un mot.
But when I continue writing, the suggestion suddenly suppresses what is already written by me.
Exemple/example:
Si je veux taper le mot "photograph", j'écris "phot" et le système me propose "phot(ograph)"
If I wish to type "photograph", I type "phot" and the system suggests "phot(ograph)"
Mais si je poursuis, la suggestion saute et je me retrouve avec, disons, "(aph)" sans raison au début de la fenêtre et le remplissage utile devient impossible.
But if I continue, the suggestion suppresses all and keeps only a part of it at the beginning of the window (say "(aph)") and the categorization is impossible.
Quel paramètre dois-je corriger ?
What kind of parameter should I correct ?
Merci
Thanks

Could just move it to at the tail end of the description (with appropriate adjustment to the wikisyntax). So if there is "|location=FOO" that becomes "Location: FOO" at the end of the description. - Jmabel ! talk 01:17, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Okay, that would be fine to me. Is there a bot that can do this? --Leyo 08:52, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not readily, presumably someone would need to program it, but you can make a request.
With a lot of cleverness, VFC or AWB could probably be made to do this (using regular expressions) but it would be a royal pain to work it out, and especially to test to eliminate false positives. Better done by a bot overtly programmed for the task. - Jmabel ! talk 16:24, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi all,

I work for Portland Thorns FC of the NWSL. One of our players is not a fan of the photos that are utilized on her page (to be fair they arent great and we have a full archive of more compelling ones). How could I go about providing those or uploading directly as a replacement to the current ones?

Appreciate any insights! Stumptown FC (talk) 16:38, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Stumptown FC: Hi, and welcome. Please read COM:FS.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:24, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Stumptown FC: I have a feeling it will be a little trickier than Jeff says, but not enormously trickier, since I presume you either hold the rights for the photos you want to upload or know exactly who does. You will almost certainly find COM:THIRD useful. One further word to the wise, though: don't fudge anything about who holds the copyright. Commons probably takes that more strictly than anyone else on the Internet. If (after reading COM:THIRD) you have any further questions related to that and as to just what Commons will need in terms of establishing that the copyrights are "clean", please feel more than free to get hold of me, probably best on my user talk page. - Jmabel ! talk 23:47, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Stumptown FC A practical solution, from the Commons/WP perspective, is this: create a subpage at https://www.thorns.com/ with photos you like to "donate", and add the text "The photos on this page are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license."
Then you or anyone can upload them on Commons using a link to that page as a source, and then you can use them on WP. I/someone else here can probably help with the Commons/WP parts if you ask, provided you "fix" your website. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:38, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: your "practical solution" will work if they own the copyrights, but otherwise the offer of a license would not clearly come from the copyright-holder, as is required. - Jmabel ! talk 16:28, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm assuming they wouldn't lie about these hypothetical pics. I can't guarantee they won't, obviously, but my assumption is that an org like that would think it's a bad idea. File:Shae Harvery Training.032426.FW001.jpg indicates that the OP does have access to relevant pics. But sure, they shouldn't state on their website that pics without a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license does have a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license, that might even be illegal. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:50, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Or you can just keep doing what you did with File:Shae Harvery Training.032426.FW001.jpg Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:54, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Stumptown FC. I'm just going to add the following to everything that's been posted above. Wikimedia Commons is mainly concerned with the copyright status of the images it hosts and whether such images fall within its COM:SCOPE. However, there's no way to guarantee that any images you upload will end up being used on English Wikipedia or guarantee that they won't be used by websites or people not associated with English Wikipedia in any way. So, you might want to take a close look at COM:LJ, COM:REUSE and COM:ENFORCE because any images you upload to Commons under copyright licenses that meet COM:L could end up being used in ways that your organization and its players might not like.

When it comes to images used in English Wikipedia articles, there can sometimes be disagreements over which to use, and such disagreements typically need to resolved by establishing a consensus through article talk page discussion. If the images you upload are of a high-quality and not overtly promotional in nature, others should have no problem in using them; there is, however, always the possibility that someone might disagree and prefer a different image. So, please keep that in mind.

It's also important to understand that the types of images Commons is able to host are licensed with very minimal restrictions in place, which means pretty much anyone anywhere in the world can download them and reuse them in any way they want as long as they comply with the terms of the licensing. My suggestion to you before uploading anything would be to consult with your organizations PR department or legal department since hopefully those people will be familiar with things like image copyright and what it means to release images under a particular type of license. The types of copyright licenses that are free enough for Commons are pretty much non-revocable; so, it can be hard to get images uploaded to Commons under such licenses deleted after the fact. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:22, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
While there is no guarantee that uploaded pics will be used, it's quite common that pics of living people on en-WP are pretty low-quality (if en-WP has them at all), and if a better one (subjective, of course) is correctly provided, it probably will be used. Category:Portland Thorns FC players has a lot of people in it, and it's probable some leadimages could be improved, though I see several that IMO look pretty good, "at work" so to speak. Studio pics like https://www.thorns.com/roster wouldn't necessarily be preferred by Wikipedians as leadimages, but this is me speculating. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:41, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yea, that's what was stopping me from uploading it mostly. Commons is a library of images. But it's not Wikipedia. To appear on Wikipedia, you also need to go to the pages where you want them, and add them to those pages. It's not automatic. You might find en:Help:Pictures to be a useful read. Is en:National Register of Historic Places listings in Bernalillo County, New Mexico the first place to add them? I have a photo of a US military aircraft that I was flying. The photo was taken by an RAF photographer that was in another aircraft flying in formation with us. The purpose of the photo was to document the SACEUR (at the time) last flight departing UK airspace before his retirement. I would like to upload this photo to the Wiki Page that will be used to document this Flying Unit (SACEUR Flight Section) CrewRest (talk) 14:07, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@CrewRest Welcome! You have some reading to do, see COM:THIRD. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:55, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm in the process of uploading my own photos to the Wikimedia Commons, and the only photos I have of a certain person are group shots. I was wondering what the proper caption for this would be as the header on their page, as the page does not currently have a photo. I assume "[Name] (left) in [year]" would be fine, but should I name the others in the photo (ex. "[Name] (left) with [person] and [person] in [year]"?

Thanks in advance! ReverendPoppins (talk) 21:11, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@ReverendPoppins: If their identities are known, definitely name them in the description. Probably name them in the caption if they are either strongly connected to the person in question, or notable in their own right. Probably not, otherwise. Also, is the photo high enough resolution that it might be possible to also do a cropped version to show the individual in question? - Jmabel ! talk 22:30, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
One of the people in the photo is very well known, but the other doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. I will crop the photo with just the individual, thank you! ReverendPoppins (talk) 01:05, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like to use a short notification sound (this one, size of about 10ko) in a user script on Wikipedia France. However, it needs to be uploaded on Wikimedia due to policy restrictions on using files hosted by other websites. It is a free sound licensed under CC 0.
Can I do it even though there is no educational value associated? And the upload wizard automatically blocks mp3. Any solution? Jethro8 (talk) 10:53, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Jethro8: Just convert it to another file format like .ogg using an external program and upload it here, see Commons:Audio on how. Looks in scope to me. HyperAnd [talk] 20:15, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's up, thanks ! We'll see if it stays that way. Jethro8 (talk) 06:16, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The file File:Smith chart bmd.svg is not vector graphics. Neither is File:Smith chart bmd.gif.

There is a vector version of this file available at: https://eecs.wsu.edu/~shira/ee331/hw/smith.pdf -- Hplooijer (talk) 13:11, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Hplooijer: Hi, and welcome. You are welcome to convert that to svg and upload it here, then nominate the other two for deletion.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:39, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Jeff! Actually, the svg version in the Wikimedia page proves to be vector graphics - but it requires a viewer that can properly handle it. Unfortunately, the upload wizard does not contain a "public domain" option, so I'll leave it for now.
What I will upload: a (vector!) version of the Immittance Smith chart, created by myself. Hplooijer (talk) 14:20, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I got in trouble for this before, so I want to make sure I do it right here. How do I request multiple files to be deleted (author's request). Coldstreamer20 (talk) 16:40, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Coldstreamer20: If you want to delete all of your own recent uploads between two particular times, just reply here and indicate the range of upload times. (It would have been better asked at COM:AN, but since the conversation is started here, let's keep it here.)
If it's something else, can you characterize at all what this is about (roughly how many files, are they all in some one category, etc.), so I can make a good suggestion? Some things are a lot easier to do quickly with a tool than others. - Jmabel ! talk 22:14, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
So. I'm specifically looking for my AI uploads to be removed (there's been a discussion to remove them, and I don't want to cause any issues so I'm requesting they be removed). They are from: File:VBK 34 remake.png, File:VBK 100 remake.png, File:VBK 11 remake.png, File:VBK 31 remake.png, and File:VBK 33 remake.png. Then also File:VKK 611 remake.png, File:VKK 612 remake.png, File:VKK 613 remake.png, File:VKK 623 remake.png, File:Gardes-Française Regimental Colours - realistic.png, File:Royal Dragons guidon - realistic.png, File:Colonel-Général Dragons guidon - realistic.png, and File:Maestre-de-Camp Général Dragons guidon - realistic.png. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 01:52, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Coldstreamer20: Because these are uploaded more than 7 days ago, in terms of deletion process it is largely irrelevant that you are the uploader/author. "Author's request" really doesn't apply. If they should be deleted on some other grounds, fine, but you'd have to approach this the same way as any other user.
That's not terribly many photos, so a mass deletion request isn't mandatory, and I see at least one of these (the last) is already nominated for deletion by someone else. Of course, on any where there are already DRs, it would be helpful if you would !vote delete ({{Vd}}) and make it clear you were the uploader.
For the rest: if you are pretty sure the decision whether to keep or delete will be the same for all of them, a mass DR is preferred. See Commons:Deletion requests/Mass deletion request. You have few enough uploads in the relevant period of time that it should be pretty simple to create the mass DR from your own uploads list using VFC. If you already know that tool, you can probably do it in about 10 minutes. If not, you may have a bit of a learning curve here, but I'd still guess it can be done in 30 minutes or so (and you'd learn a useful tool). - Jmabel ! talk 06:03, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Good afternoon! I am a student from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Mesa Campus, and I’m currently working on a brochure project as part of our academic requirements. I would like to respectfully request permission to use your photo of Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine hat I accessed through https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Emilio_Aguinaldo_Shrine.jpg.

Rest assured that the photo will only be used for educational purposes. It will not be posted online, published, or used for any commercial content. The brochure will be presented solely within our class as part of our midterm presentation.

Proper acknowledgment and credit will also be given to you as the source of the image.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. ~2026-24961-76 (talk) 09:59, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I have created a photo in Wikimedia Commons, but with the wrong information regarding the author : I would like to be able to delete this file, and then recreate it again with the right author Can you explain me how to proceed (the jpg file is named "Photo WS La Rochelle 2025", and is used in tha article "Bandes du réchauffement climatique". @LE PAGE Christophe, hello! You can just edit the page directly and modify the author without deleting the file. Deltaspace42 (talk) 14:28, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I made a mistake. I uploaded a pdf file instead of a png or tiff file.

How should I convert or replace File:Torque as a function of slip.pdf with a pdf or a tiff file? Comfr (talk) 18:36, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

You can just upload the proper file(s) and go back to the PDF and add {{speedy|accidentally uploaded PDF}}. There are other similar tags you can add to the top of a file to request deletion, but this is fastest. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:52, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I am a newbie, and would like to replace the image that was put up on my Wikipedia link with another. I have looked at the various 'help' links /pages within wikimedia, and I've only become more confused. Can someone please outline the appropriate procedure I will need to take for requesting a deletion of the current image and replacing it with another? Many thanks! Janelle (Parks) Graham CornfedinOhio (talk) 05:29, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@CornfedinOhio: are you referring to the article en:Janelle Parks? In any way, you will have to address several points.
  1. Images aren't deleted (usually), they can be replaced in articles and other pages. The file itself remains available, but not displayed on Wikipedia, for instance. If it's indeed about the en:Janelle Parks article, a better image is certainly welcome.
    • Deletion will occur when a copyright violation is demonstrated, or any other kind of site policy violation.
  2. You can provide better imagery? Very good! But that entails the observance of several mainstays for the sites. Prime is: a clarified copyright situation. Commons cares much about the respect of copyrights.
  3. If you want to provide imagery that was not taken by yourself, a lot of prerequisites has to be fulfilled. A comprehensive guide is available at COM:THIRD. In a nutshell: find the actual copyright owner, have them agree to a free license or show evidence of a complete transfer of copyrights to you and forward that documentation to our "permission archival service", the COM:VRT. The needed details are found on the linked tutorial page.
  4. If you have imagery produced by yourself (meaning: you grabbed a camera, set up a delayed-action shutter release or used some kind of selfie function and imaged yourself with that setup), go ahead and follow the steps shown in the COM:Upload wizard to upload the image here.
Imperatively avoid:
  1. the uploading of press images without explicit free license, those aren't free enough for Wikimedia's purposes.
  2. the uploading of photos of which the actual photographer is unknown. It's against the needed precaution mandated here.
I hope that I managed to solve some of your confusion, but feel free to ask again if something remains unclear! Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 07:03, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for explaining that. I will endeavour to find a photo that I can track down the photographer for clearance. Cheers! Janelle CornfedinOhio (talk) 07:48, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
A small clarifiaction about uploading photos by unknown photographers. In all cases photos have to satisfy US copyright law and local copyright law. Under US copyright law, photos that were taken 120 years ago or published 95 years ago by an unknown (annonymous) photographer are out of copyright provided that they are also out of copyright under the law of the country where they were taken. Thus, a photograph of Queen Victoria by an unknown photographer is no longer protected under US copyright (Queen Victoria died 125 years ago). If such a photo was taken in the United Kingdom, you will of course also have to satisfy UK copyright law. Martinvl (talk) 21:19, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
