JOB LISTINGS
Many community members in our region are economically disadvantaged. Census data shows that 13% to 16% of the residents across our tri-county service area are living in poverty. Libraries often provide needed resources and a safe haven to those facing financial hardship. The goal of the Community Care Project is to expand this role by offering additional support to our neighbors, while respecting human dignity. We are pleased to partner with other organizations to make this possible.
Personal Care Kits
We’re proud to announce a new initiative, involving eighteen member libraries, aimed at supporting under-resourced community members. Thanks to Adirondack Foundation’s Generous Acts program, we were able to launch a project to distribute essential hygiene items to area residents in need and to offer staff training. Area businesses, including Hannaford and Big Lots, also supported the project by donating supplies.
The personal care items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, shampoo, body wash, tissues, bottles of antiperspirant, space blankets, menstrual pads, and printed information about library resources to support individuals in need. The supplies will be offered individually, in personal care pantries, or as kits (packaged in bags or boxes). Some libraries will partner with organizations in their community to distribute the items. The project was designed to allow each location to tailor the program to meet the specific needs of the library and the community. Area residents are invited to contribute supplies through an Amazon wish list at
cefls.org/community-care-donate
or by contacting a participating library:

Access to Diapers at Local Libraries
Thanks to a partnership with the ADK Diaper Bank and the Adirondack Foundation, families in need can now access free diapers at the 17 participating member libraries listed below.
We invite community members to support this effort by donating diapers directly at any of these libraries or by contributing through our Amazon Wish List at
cefls.org/community-care-donate
. Together, we’re helping ensure that children in our region have access to essential care items. Thank you for being part of this important community initiative!

Lions Club Eyeglasses/Hearing Aid Recycling Boxes
According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 120 million people are visually impaired because of uncorrected refractive errors (farsightedness and nearsightedness). The lack of eyeglasses denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment and a better quality of life.
The Lions Club helps to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children and adults. They collect used eyeglasses at these local libraries:
