About This Certificate
The Cybersecurity Certificate at Utah State University is a 15-credit, fully online program designed to equip students with advanced skills in information security—one of the fastest-growing fields in today’s technology landscape.
The curriculum includes in-depth instruction in critical areas such as network defense, penetration testing, digital forensics, and ethical hacking.
This certificate is particularly beneficial for students who have previously completed foundational IT and cybersecurity coursework through Utah’s technical colleges. However, it is also accessible to students without prior technical training. Those without a background in cybersecurity can meet with a USU advisor to determine the preparatory coursework needed to build a strong foundation before beginning the advanced certificate courses.
The program is intentionally designed to offer maximum flexibility for working professionals and students across the state. Additionally, it stacks directly into USU’s Bachelor of Science in Technology Systems (TESY), making it an excellent option for TESY students who want to specialize in cybersecurity and continue toward a four-year degree without duplicating coursework.
What You Will Learn
Students will gain competencies in network security, ethical hacking, risk management, and digital forensics. The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications, preparing students to identify vulnerabilities, implement security protocols, and respond to cyber incidents. Graduates will be equipped with the technical and strategic skills needed to protect systems and data in a variety of industries.
