This program prepares students for the Product Design and Manufacturing industry. The design engineer is a highly skilled technician with an ability to visualize objects three dimensionally before they are physically created. Students studying on the Mechanical Design Option will learn computer-aided design software, drafting and design practices, print reading, reverse engineering, and 3D printing. Design Engineering instruction at the College is offered in fundamental, intermediate, and advanced levels. A graduate of the program will be generally qualified to enter the industry as an entry level draftsperson, detailer, apprentice designer or engineer. Graduates are encouraged to continue education toward a professional degree in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering.
