The development of stylistic analysis that focuses on the role of the linguistic codes of the text dates back to the classical period. From the classical period onwards there has been continued interest among scholars in the relation between patterns of language (linguistic descriptions) and the meaning (interpretation) in the text. Feminist stylistics, a sub-discipline of stylistic analysis, is the study and interpretation of a text from a genderized and feminist linguistic perspective. Feminist stylistics, providing an insight into aspects of feminist writing and stylistics focus on the analysis of the factors which determine the meaning of text in its social context. Feminist stylisticians highlight in a systematic manner the self conscious attempts by female writers to modify traditional modes of language use from a female perspective. For years women's' writing and language were criticized of not being stylistically unique but recent feministic researches have shown that women's' writings were 'ecriture feminine' and language was stylistically unique, therefore modern feminists indicate that there is difference between male and female writing and language use. This paper, aims to focus on feminist stylistics by exemplifying the difference between male and female language use that is referred as genderlect in Susan Glaspell's short story A Jury of Her Peers.

Isolation refers to a character's state of being physically or emotionally separated from others, creating tension, vulnerability, and introspection. This separation often leads to significant character development and thematic exploration. In contrast, suspense is a narrative device that evokes excitement or anxiety about future events, characterized by tension and uncertainty, usually arising from conflict or anticipation. Authors build suspense through techniques such as withholding information, creating cliff-hangers, or imposing time constraints, keeping readers engaged and eager for the outcome. Lucy Foley skilfully utilizes isolation and suspense in her psychological thriller, The Guest List. Set on the fictional island of Inis an Amplóra (Cormorant Island), the novel's location is crucial to its sense of isolation. The island is only accessible by boat, and a looming storm threatens to cutoff communication with the mainland, amplifying the characters' vulnerability. The entire plot revolves around a murder mystery at a high-society wedding, where secrets and lies among the guests escalate into a gripping investigation. Through a critical examination of setting, character development, and narrative techniques, this article demonstrates how Foley crafts a tense and foreboding atmosphere. It also shows how Foley deliberately employs characterization and plotting strategies to enhance tension, creating an unsettling and captivating reading experience that leaves readers on edge.

A partire dallo studio di caso del poliziesco di montagna di ambientazione italiana prodotto dalle AI generative, il contributo indaga i “mondi possibili” nelle narrazioni di indagine scritte da macchine, interrogandosi sulla loro natura bizzarra e in certa misura sfuggente rispetto alle categorie di analisi classiche e i loro effetti di senso nella produzione del discourse. Il quadro teorico proposto, che congiunge il piano tecnico con le categorie interpretative della semiotica e della teoria dei frame, permette di analizzare il “testo sintetico” dell’AI aprendone la black-box all’esplorazione umanistica. Nel case study analizzato, questa indagine a cavallo tra discipline mostra come i meccanismi tecnici degli LLM influiscano sulla costruzione di specifici immaginari geografici, in cui il mondo possibile della montagna italiana – a un tempo luogo oscuro e minaccioso e cartolina turistica – è costruzione esotizzante di uno sguardo anglocentrico che ha ricadute pragmatiche sul mondo reale europeo.

Questa tesi di laurea si occupa della trilogia letteraria Millennium e delle sue trasposizioni cinematografiche, concentrandosi sul tema centrale della violenza contro le donne, considerato quale espressione di problematiche più ampie di carattere socioculturale e politico, come la divisione dei ruoli di genere, l’abuso di potere e l’influenza dei media.
La trilogia di Millennium fa parte di un genere rappresentativo della cultura scandinava, il Nordic Noir, il quale si colloca a metà strada tra l’inchiesta giornalistica e il romanzo, offrendo uno sguardo differente, a tratti distopico, sulle società del Nord Europa. Il Nordic Noir viene analizzato nei primi due capitoli di questo elaborato, nei quali vengono delineati i precursori e le caratteristiche essenziali in rapporto alla più lunga tradizione del giallo. Infine, il terzo capitolo prende in esame la trilogia letteraria e la serie di film ad essa ispirata, delle quali si evidenziano, inoltre, gli elementi di contatto e distacco dal genere stesso, in accordo con le teorie femministe.
Benché si tratti di un genere di matrice letteraria, avendo ottenuto, dagli anni Novanta ad oggi, sempre più consensi, il Nordic Noir è divenuto oggetto di produzioni e riproduzioni audiovisive non solo nei paesi scandinavi, ma anche nel resto del mondo occidentale. Per questo motivo si è ritenuto opportuno tener conto anche della vasta produzione di serie televisive dal carattere noir della quale verranno individuati i tratti caratteristici con riferimento all’oggetto della presente analisi.

This thesis analyzes the role of individual mediators in the early reception of the works of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986). It focuses on a number of key mediators such as publishers, editors, translators, and critics in the translation and publication process and in criticism of Borges’s work in France and the United States. These mediators evaluated Borges’s work according to their own norms, which become clear in specific selections and classifications in reception material such as correspondence, peritexts of book translations, and criticism. When comparing how different key mediators selected and classified Borges’s work, the functioning of the individual, institutional, national, and international levels in the reception and the processes of transmission that took place on and between these levels become clear. Astrid Bricard stă în faţa unei vitrine, cu faţa aproape lipită de geam, iar gura, obrajii -chiar şi pistruii -i se arcuiesc într-un zâmbet care astepta de-o viată să înflorească. O avea ea douăzeci si , patru de ani, dar viata adevărată abia acum începe, iar cel mai bun mod de a sărbători ar fi să îmbrătiseze vitrina amplasată în arhiva facultâtii de modă de la Parsons School of 'Design. Se apleacă mai mult, lovindu-se cu nasul de geamul care o desP,arte de rochie. Majoritatea oamenilor ar vedea o rochie din anii '50, creată de Claire McCardell. Dar Astrid vede o capodoperă a fibrelor. Fiecare piesă vestimentară ia nastere dintr-o fioră si atât. Nici măcar dintr-un fir de ată -nu încă. Doar fibre -curăţate, cardate şi pieptănate, apoi răsucite, îm_pletite şi ţesute. O magie din ale cărei vrăii se revarsă valuri de damasc şi de stofa, de crepon şi catifea voluptuoasă. -Arăţi de parcă vrei să-l trimiţi pe dracu' înapoi in iad cu rochia asta. Astrid scoate un tipăt. De cealaltă parte a vitrinei se află un bărbat; zâmbeşte în colţul gurii, încredinţat că a rostit o ' ' cu adevărat puternică. Dar Astrid asta visează, iar zâmbetul care i se aşterne pe chip în timp ce se îndepărtează este şi_ spr1ji_ nul, şi puterea ei -dar nu şi p1erzan1a. -Ce-i chestia aia de pe tine? o ia la întrebări la sfârsitul orelor o lungană pe care ditamai coafura afro o face să pară si mai înaltă. Astrid se uită în jos la ţinuta ei. -Un sacou pe care taică-meu voia să-l arunce. Lungana pufneşte în râs. -Un sacou bărbătesc. Doar un sacou bărbătesc. Nimic altceva. -Mă rog, port şi lenjerie intimă pe dedesubt, dar legat de asta va trebui să mă crezi pe cuvânt. Astrid zâmbeşte larg şi fata chicoteşte. -Eu sunt Velvet. Hai să mergem să mâncăm. Dar mai întâi... Graham! răcneşte ea şi un tip dă fuga spre ele. -Am mai găsit o prietena. Ea este ... -Astrid, completează ea în timp ce ies împreună spre strada East 54. -Eu si Velvet ne-am cunoscut la seral în urmă cu câţiva ani, îi explică Graham. Doi oameni care nu terminaseră liceul si ai căror părinti nu voiau să-i lase să urmeze facultate' a de modă. Zâmbeşte amuzat, dar Astrid ştie că în spatele acestor cuvinte există multe lucruri care nu sunt deloc vesele. -Nici părinţii mei nu vor să mă ştie aici, mărturiseşte ea pe când dau să intre într-un restaurant. -Vezi? Ştiam eu că e de-a noastră, jubilează Velvet. Proscrisii se unesc. Chelneri ta vine la masa 'lor. Ia comanda lui Astrid şi a lui Graham, dar înainte ca Velvet să apuce să spună ceva, se întoarce si dă să plece. -Mai vreau Şl un burger cu cartofi prăjiţi, strigă Graham după ea. Şi încă un suc. -Mulţumesc, murmură Velvet către Graham, mai mică si mai putin exaltată decât fusese cu cinci secunde în urmă, înainte ca chelneriţa s-o ignore şi apoi să refuze s-o privească în faţă în timp ce adăuga mâncarea pe comandă. Velvet aprinde o ţigară şi dă fumul afară _ pe nas. -A1 face bine să te obisnuiesti cu chestia asta sau, dacă nu; să-ţi faci prieteni mai albi. Şi Astrid ştie bine că, deşi uneori se simte ca o proscrisă, fiind o fată albă din Long Island, e integrată în viaţă, în timp ce Velvet atârnă de firele ei cele mai uzate. Însă, privirea ei îi dă clar de înţeles că, dacă încearcă să-i ceară scuze pentru ceva ce, să recunoaştem, nu va putea niciodată să înţeleagă cu adevărat, Velvet o să se ridice şi o să plece. Aşa că Astrid îl înghionteşte pe Graham. -Păi asta si fac. El e la fel de alb ca rochia mea de la slujba de confirmare. -Vrei să spui că n-ai purtat si atunci tot un sacou? glumeşte Velvet, :far faţa i se destinde iar într-un zâmbet. Soseste mâncarea si Graham o întreabă: -De ce nu vor părinţii tăi să urmezi scoala de modă? Între două îmbucături de macaroane cu brânză, Astrid le explică: -Tata e avocat si vrea să mă căsătoresc cu unul dintre partenerii tineri din firma lui. Velvet si Graham strâmbă din nas. -Exact. Dar ... Arată spre sacou, spre părul blond şi lucios care, tuns bob pană la bărbie, contrastează cu pletele atât de comune acum, un stil doar al ei, inconfundabil. -Îi bag în sperieti pe avocaţi. Să fiu designer de modă e tot ce-mi doresc. Cuvintele aproape că i se îngrămădesc pe buze. Nu e obişnuită cu elepartenerii tineri pe care tatăl ei îi invita Ia cină erau întotdeauna cei cu discursurile. O scoteau la o plimbare cu masina după cină si ea Ie cerea să meargă în centru, deşi ei trăgeau spre locuri mai retrase. Sărea mereu jos din masină la semafor si se îndrepta spre un ' bar, ceea ce i�a adus o anume notorietate. Nu conta că tinerii parteneri doreau să ducă fata într-un Ioc retras pentru a oferi limbii un exercitiu alternativ la vorbirereputaţia lor rămânea nepătată. Astrid, însă, cu hainele ei ciudate, cu obiceiul de a lua barurile la rând la ore târzii si lipsa ei de interes fată de avocaţi, era cea care stârnea bârfele. -Şi eu la fel, spune Velvet, dând din cap cu înfocare, e singurul lucru pe care mi-am dorit vreodată să-l fac. -Ar trebui să vină să locuiască cu noi, îi sugerează Graham lui Velvet. -Probabil că nu-si doreste o saltea pe podeaua unei locuinţe minuscule din Chelsea, răspunde ea râzând. -O saltea pe podea e cam tot ce-mi pot permite, spune Astrid aproape implorând. Nu pot să tot fac naveta de la casa alor mei din Long Island. Trebuie să-i conving că dorinţa de a deveni desiiner de modă nu e ceva ce trece odata cu vârsta, aşa cum s-a întâmplat cu pasiunea din copilărie de a mânca hotdog cu unt de arahide. -Câh! se strambă Velvet. Astrid zâmbeşte larg. I-au trebuit douăzeci si patru de ani de linguşiri, culminând cu o promisiune făcută tatălui ei de a-si lua mai întâi o licentă ' ' Hawk îşi lasă rucsacul lângă uşa apartamentului din Park Avenue, intră agale în bucătărie şi îşi sărută mama pe obraz. Ea îi ciufuleşte părul. -Alo! protestează el în glumă, scoţând un suc din frigider, cu gândul încă la fata de la Parsons. Se dusese la arhivă în căutare de inspiraţie -: -trebuie să facă ceva nou pentru atelier, dar tot ce desenează e mai nesatisfăcător decât ce îsi doreste el să iasă. Si o găsise pe ea, purtând doar un s' acou strâmt şi uitându-se la o rochie, cu pleoapele pe jumătate închise, cu formele trupuiui conturate într-o manieră care este acum depăşită -singura fată din New York care nu si-a aruncat încă sutienul. Brusc, mâna lui îşi dorisţ cu disperare deseneze :pentru corpul ei o rochie care s-o facă sa arate ca si când i-ar fi fost smulsă lenjeria aia din anii '60. Clipeşte des, uimit de forţa amintirii. -Am întâlnit o fată azi, spune el. -Şi ce e nou în asta, HJ? glumeşte mama lui, apoi ridică o spranceană. Aha! Te-a pus cu botul pe labe. Sau, zâmbeşte ea plină de tristeţe, tocmai ai avut parte de un coup de foudre. -Si dacă e vorba si de una si de ' ' ' cealaltă? întreabă el, mai serios decât a reacţionat până acum la expresiile franţuzeşti prost pronunţate ale maică sii . şi la ideile ei despre dragostea la prima vedere. -Este ediţia britanică, îi lămureşte Velvet. Faceti cunostintă cu DonY,ale Luna. E americancă,' dar americanii n au pus niciodată o fată de culoare pe copertă. Inutil să mai spun că Donyale locuieşte acum la Londra. E prima femeie de culoare care a apărut vreodată pe coperta revistei Vogue. Dacă asta nu e influenţă asupra modei, atunci nu stiu ce e. Dar va fi oare editia , , americană Vogue influenţată de ea? Ai fi zis că Velvet aruncase o grenadă în mijlocul clasei. Toată lumea a îngheţat, asteptând explozia. Oamenii nu vorbesc despre aceste lucruri pe un ton atât de acuzator. Asţri� îşi bagă degetele în gură şi fluiera. -Trăiască Donyale! Clasa tresare şi aplaudă politicos. Velvet îşi reia locll:l lânga Astri� şi şopteşte: -Pun pariu că asta e singura persoană din cele prezentate azi care nu e albă. Următoarea prezentare, cea a lui Candace Winters, confirmă ipoteza. Dar nu acesta este motivul pentru care Astrid simte că i se face rău când vede poza fotocopiată pe care o ţine în mână Candace. -Christian Dior este designerul care a influentat moda mai mult decât oricare altul, începe Candace. Aceasta este muza lui, Mizza Bricard. Toată bucuria lui Astrid se face ghem în ea ca mătasea tol_)ită. Ar fi trebuit să-şi dea seama că cineva o va alege pe Pur şi simplu nu-i ies din gură, cele două cuvinte care i-au definit viata si care vor continua să o definească dacă nu face ceva în privinta asta. -Mama mea naturală a fost Mizza Bricard, spune ea mult prea tare. Freamătul care cuprinde încăperea este pe jumătate surpriză, pe jumătate neîncredere. -Tu esti fiica muzei lui Christian Dior? rryetă Candace, privind-o printre gene, parând să creadă că ăsta e singurul motiv pentru care Astrid se află acolo în calitate de câstigătoare a bursei. Unul singur dintre ei, li s-a spus ieri, va absolvi facultatea şi va deveni designer de renume. Cinci vor lucra pe langă designeri de renume. Restul vor face altceva în cinci ani. Dar, desigur, fiica Mizzei Bricard poate să intre pur şi simplu în Casa Dior si să obţină o slujbă în haute couture :._ nu trebuie să muncească pe brânci pentru asta. Dar Astrid munceste. A tanulmány Kondor Vilmos "Budapest Noir" című regényében vizsgálja a költői igazságszolgáltatás működését. Kiindulópontja, hogy a detektívtörténet népszerűsége nemcsak rejtélystruktúrájával, hanem morális szerkezetével is magyarázható: a műfaj rendszerint olyan világot ábrázol, amelyben a bűnös lelepleződik és elnyeri büntetését, ezáltal kielégítve az olvasó igazságérzetét. A tanulmány előbb röviden áttekinti a költői igazságszolgáltatás fogalmának poétikatörténeti hátterét és kognitív magyarázatait, majd a regény zárlatának részletes elemzésére vállalkozik. Amellett érvel, hogy a "Budapest Noir" alapvetően követi a klasszikus detektívtörténet bűn-büntetés sémáját, ugyanakkor két lényeges ponton el is tér tőle. Egyrészt a regény nem a bűnösök leleplezésével zárul, hanem részletesen ábrázolja a büntetés kitervelését és végrehajtását is, ami a művet a hard-boiled krimi irányába mozdítja. Másrészt a szöveg a földi igazságszolgáltatás keretein túl az isteni igazságszolgáltatás, illetve a világ kozmikus erkölcsi rendjének kérdését is felveti. A "Mirjam" és a mottóként idézett ima összefüggésében a regény azt sugallja, hogy a földi megtorlás nem ad teljes megnyugvást: az isteni közbeavatkozás elmaradása, a Teremtő hallgatása nyugtalanító távlatot nyit. A "Budapest Noir" így egyszerre teljesíti és problematizálja a detektívtörténet költői igazságosságra épülő hagyományát.

This paper examines the concept of poetic justice in Vilmos Kondor’s "Budapest Noir". It argues that the popularity of detective fiction can be explained by both its mystery structure and its moral design. Typically, the genre presents a world in which the criminal is exposed and punished, thereby satisfying the reader’s sense of justice. First, the study offers a brief overview of the concept of poetic justice, its place in the history of poetics and its cognitive explanations. It then turns to a close reading of the novel’s ending. It argues that, while "Budapest Noir" essentially adheres to the traditional detective story pattern of crime and punishment, it also departs from it in two significant ways. Firstly, rather than ending with the exposure of the culprits, the novel devotes considerable narrative space to the planning and execution of their punishment, thus shifting towards the hard-boiled tradition. Secondly, the novel extends the problem of justice beyond the sphere of worldly punishment, raising the question of divine justice and the cosmic moral order. In connection with the "Mirjam" prayer book and the prayer quoted as the novel’s motto, the text suggests that earthly retribution does not produce complete resolution; the absence of divine intervention and God's silence open up a disturbing horizon that remains unresolved by the end of the novel. Budapest Noir thus both fulfils and problematises the traditional reliance of the detective genre on poetic justice.

It is well known, and widely discussed in critical literature, that in Jean Giono's fiction, the Alpine landscape serves not as a mere backdrop, but as a character and driving force in the social ecosystem of the rural mountain worlds. Un Roi sans divertissement, a novel published in 1947, reveals a different, unexpected aspect of Giono. In this novel written in the form of chronicle, the natural and social ecosystem of the Alps seems to be dominated by a universal evil. The solemn, imposing mountain, with its frightening grandeur, leads to madness, and recalls the fascination of death. In the plot, the mountain landscape is chosen as a frame for a story, and as a symbol of the human condition, emptiness, the absurdity of life, and existential boredom, despite its eternal beauty and apparent peace.

A very successful session for three adults with moderate to severe learning and physical needs. Each person engaged with the painting task, despite limitations in motor-control, and each person displayed high levels of concentration during the mark making process and responded to their work with delight. The objective was to transfer each person's hand and arm movements into brushstrokes thus capturing them in a finished painting. The paint brush was placed into the hand of the service user, paint put on a plate and held in front of the brush-variations in the amount of water on the brush were tried, generally a drier brush to begin with and wetter at the end-a drier brush meant less flicking of paint, a wetter brush required more control. Hence, the longer each person painted for the more familiar they seemed to become with the process, which made brush strokes more controlled, in turn allowing the use of a wetter brush at the end (also tiredness could be a factor). Each service user painted in the kitchen at the table wearing a disposable apron with sleeves rolled up. It was decided not to use the 'art room' as it was too small to work comfortably with wheelchairs and has no sink.

Tracing the roots of the motif of the translator in Russian literature back to F. M. Resumen A finales del siglo XIX se había establecido firmemente una pequeña población hebrea en la ciudad de La Línea, fronteriza con la colonia británica de Gibraltar, donde, a su vez, había una población hebrea que se había afincado en ella a principios del siglo XVIII. Siendo la procedencia de ambas, en su mayor parte, el norte de África, trajeron consigo su lengua habitual, la haquetía. En este artículo presentamos algunos de los rasgos de esta lengua que los hebreos, tanto de La Línea y como de Gibraltar, conservaron, aunque es solo un esbozo ya que tenemos muy pocos testimonios. Con ello, documentamos el uso de la haquetía en el sur de España, aspecto que, hasta ahora, no había sido estudiado.

Samarendranath Pandey (1950s-80s) was a name that resonated with the common people. The man reached us via his fictional detective, Dipak Chatterjee, created under his pen name Swapan Kumar. The stories by him still remain a matter of 'dispute' in most Bengali households especially in an era dominated by Mass Media. Unlike other fictitious sleuths, Dipak was different in himself. Highly inspired by "westernized" culture. Swapan Kumar's tales were pathbreaking. It is no wonder that it found a place in the pulp fiction category. For the very first time, readers in Bengal witnessed a detective like Dipak. He was more of a super-hero than a common man. Swapan Kumar's tales were action-driven, not rooted in realistic investigation. It is through this paper that I have tried to paint the character of Dipak-kind of a Gen-Z sleuth in the light of contemporary society where people have already witnessed the craze of an 'Avengers', Marvel, DC superhero. Se dovessimo tentare di isolare una caratteristica propria del romanzo giallo, capace cioè di distinguerlo tanto dai precursori che dalle successive forme del romanzo “di genere”, utilizzeremmo per certo la parola convenzionalità. Potrà forse apparire paradossale, ma i lettori di romanzi gialli, per definizione amanti dell’enigma e del mistero, sanno quasi sempre cosa aspettarsi quando acquistano un nuovo libro. A partire dal colore della copertina, espressione massima di convenzionalità estetica, dalla quale appunto essi prendono il nome, fino agli stessi intrecci, estremamente formali e canonici. La triade aristotelica, l’unità di luogo, di tempo e di azione, trova dunque la sua massima realizzazione nell’innesco classico delle trame attraverso un omicidio (il whodunnit), il numero limitato di personaggi, la stereotipicità dell’eroe e spesso dello stesso colpevole. A chi non è mai capitato – verrebbe da chiedersi – di incolpare ironicamente il maggiordomo quando non si trova il colpevole di un misfatto?
Ma è proprio qui il problema. La chiave di questo sistema formale, di delitto e castigo, è tutta racchiusa nella risoluzione dell’enigma e nell’opposizione tra lo spirito analitico del detective da un lato, e l’astuzia criminale dall’altro. Il compito che affidiamo alla letteratura di consumo non è quello di offrirci una panoramica oggettiva e naturalistica del senso e del mondo in cui viviamo, ma piuttosto quella di mappare alcune realtà, di ricucirne la polifonia di opposizioni (borghesia/proletariato, centro/periferia, bene/male, detective/assassino etc.) fino a giungere a uno scioglimento della trama che restituisca una percezione di pienezza del senso. Tale operazione è compiuta in massima parte dalla figura del detective il quale è dotato in genere di capacità di osservazione e analisi al di sopra del normale. Ma il detective non è uno studioso , deve “sporcarsi le mani” per usare un’espressione con la quale il critico Jameson descriveva l’eroe chandleriano Philip Marlowe. Il detective attraversa lo spazio, le abitazioni, le città che fanno da sfondo agli omicidi e che sono lastricate di indizi e tracce del delitto. Ed è proprio partendo da questa relazione del detective con lo spazio che prende avvio questa riflessione. In che modo l’indagine rappresenta e/o costruisce la città? Possiamo considerare il romanzo giallo come un modello di romanzo urbano?

Trains have continued to appear in various Bangla films throughout the past decades, employed either as a backdrop or as a metaphor for modernity and its discontents. Praktan (2016), a Bangla romantic film directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, marked a paradigm shift in its depiction of train as a whole narrative setting which brings together people with a shared past and a new present along the journey. By employing the methodological framework of qualitative content and frame analysis, the chapter endeavours to present an examination of how one train journey unfolds multiple lived spatial journeys of love and life of the Bangali urban, upper-caste and middle-class passengers in its First-Class AC coupes. Furthermore, it would try to encapsulate how Praktan dwells into various temporalities through the experiential memory of the protagonists, stitching the fragments within one narrative frame. Their tales are fragmented by a contradiction between modernity’s functionality and dysfunctionality, hovering over the ideas of family values, gender roles and idealized womanhood. Thus, the chapter aims to capture the functioning of the patriarchal nature of love and conjugal relationship descending in the cityscape of Kolkata and its subsequent reproduction in the train journey.

Background: The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into clinical practice has revived longstanding debates about the foundations of diagnostic reasoning. While AI systems rely on large datasets derived from past patients, the clinician's craft remains rooted in direct observation, sensory examination, and contextual interpretation. Objective: To trace the intellectual lineage connecting Voltaire's Zadig, the evolution of the clinical method, the deductive tradition exemplified by Sherlock Holmes, and the contemporary challenges posed by AI in medicine. Discussion: Voltaire's Zadig anticipates the logic of modern clinical reasoning through its emphasis on inference from subtle signs. This evidential paradigm reappears in the anatomic and clinical revolution, bacteriology, and evidence-based medicine, and is later embodied in Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, whose method was explicitly modelled on clinical diagnosis. AI introduces new fundamental risks, including algorithmic affixing, loss of sensory skills, and the perpetuation of historical preconceptions. The internist's observational abilities remain essential for generating primary data and contextualizing algorithmic outputs. Conclusion: The future of medicine requires harmonizing traditional clinical skills with AI-driven tools. The internist must remain a reader of signs, a critic of evidence, and a guardian of epistemic humility.

The article examines the gnoseological attitude underlying the
construction of Edgar Allan Poe’s detective stories, focusing on the
investigative method of the amateur detective Auguste Dupin, in light of
the architecture that oscillates between the physical and the
metaphysical as presented in the essay. The analysis unfolds along three
principal lines of inquiry: (1) the tension between inductive and
deductive reasoning, reconsidered through the lens of the philosophical
debate between rationalism and empiricism; (2) the reconciliation of
imagination and analysis, of creative intuition and methodological rigor,
with particular attention to the influence of Poe’s mathematical
education; (3) Poe’s engagement with the emerging theory of probability,
recently systematized by Laplace, and the role of chance in the
construction of non-deterministic epistemic systems. Through these
perspectives, the article seeks to outline a genealogy of Poe’s
epistemological proposal, with specific reference to Leibnizian
philosophy, highlighting how Poe’s aim is not so much the reconstruction
of an objective truth, but rather the exploration of deviations,
irregularities, and the irreducible singularity of each event.

Nel romanzo Le uova del drago di Pietrangelo Buttafuoco (2005), con il passaggio da un codice di scrittura di matrice teatrale – quello dei pupi, al quale si allude fin dal sottotitolo, Una storia vera al teatro dei pupi – alla narrazione di ampio respiro, i nomi dei paladini di Francia e degli altri personaggi del ciclo carolingio subiscono adattamenti e trasformazioni in riferimento alle situazioni storiche verificatesi nella fase conclusiva della Seconda guerra mondiale, quando in Sicilia l’arrivo degli americani contribuì al completamento del processo di liberazione dal fascismo. Buttafuoco rilegge le vicende da una prospettiva non convenzionale, poiché al concetto di liberazione sostituisce quello di occupazione americana e pone al centro della trama le sacche di “resistenza fascista” – le cosiddette uova del drago – osservate dall’interno grazie alla voce della protagonista: la spia tedesca Eughenia Lenbach. Si assiste, pertanto, a un capovolgimento della prospettiva – per Buttafuoco è quella dei vinti, non più quella dei vincitori già descritta da Calvino o da Sciascia – e a un movimento dei nomi, mutuati dall’epopea in un continuo, seppure implicito, scambio di piani temporali secondo i quali spie, soldati, traditori e traditi si muovono nella Sicilia degli anni dal 1943 al 1947 come nel boccascena di un teatrino: «il romanzo è costruito come un’incredibile opera dei pupi, teatrino di marionette in cui c’è Agramanante e Brandimante, Gano di Maganza e Orlando» (Solinas 2005). L’autore dichiara in premessa di descrivere fatti storicamente accertati, dopo averli trasfigurati «seguendo il canovaccio di un falso storico» (p. 13), in modo da trasformare la storia vera – grazie al ricorso alle marionette – in teatro. I nomi si muovono dalla realtà verso l’Opera dei pupi e viceversa, in uno scambio che diviene talvolta integrazione e giustapposizione di nomi epici a nomi siciliani, come nel caso di Turi Orlando detto Turri, per il quale il gioco linguistico si espande da Turi – ipocoristico di Salvatore – con implicito richiamo alla Cavalleria rusticana, al nome altisonante del paladino Orlando e, infine, all’antroponimo popolare Turri, la torre. Il personaggio è anche apostrofato come «doppiogiochista», «facinoroso», «professore», «eroico». L’intervento sarà circoscritto in particolare a tre personaggi, nessuno dei quali corrisponde in modo diretto a una persona storicamente accertata: Turi Orlando, Angelica La Bella – che nel romanzo identifica una giovane studentessa dalla bellezza ammaliante ed è indicata come «compagna» in senso ideologico, «allieva di dottrina e rivoluzione» o, semplicemente, la «carusa / picciotta catanisa» – ed Eughenia Lenbach, al centro di una notevole variabilità onomastica: nella sua fase americana chiamata Alice Rendell, poi anche Ghez – il suo nome in codice per i tedeschi – quando si stabilisce a Catania, si spaccia per Delphine Cannavò, la vedova belga di un soldato italiano; di conseguenza, il suo nome si trasforma dall’americano Alice al tedesco Eughenia al francese Delphine e il cognome Rendell diviene Lenbach e, infine, il siciliano Cannavò. Nella sua fase catanese, inoltre, Eughenia assume il nome in codice di Delphine Medoro, con evidente allusione al pupo saraceno innamorato di Angelica e rivale di Orlando. Inoltre, la Lenbach è di volta in volta apostrofata come «madame», «comandante cattolico» (declinato al maschile), «vedova», «agente» e – nelle scene in cui è insieme ad Angelica La Bella – «amazzone»; è, inoltre, paragonata a Iside. Ciascuna variazione onomastica è riconducibile a motivazioni precise, che saranno oggetto dell’argomentazione. Si intende, inoltre, accennare all’impianto linguistico del romanzo, di estremo interesse per la complessità e l’originalità degli interscambi tra dialetto siciliano e lingua italiana, con molti innesti di lingua tedesca e inglese, utili a caratterizzare i personaggi e sottolineare il ruolo da essi svolto nelle vicende di una Sicilia divenuta ancora una volta crocevia di popoli. Non mancano i nomi arabeggianti, per i quali l’autore gioca anche con riferimento alla toponomastica siciliana, come nel caso di Alì degli Aliminusa, forse con ascendenza letteraria. Nel primo capitolo, ‘U cuntu, intriso di dialetto siciliano perché riecheggia lo stile dei racconti popolari che circolavano oralmente nell’isola, prevalgono nomi e toponimi siciliani, ma non mancano sicilianizzazioni, come Musulinu, per Mussolini. I nomi si mescolano anche in funzione di un caos artificialmente determinato, come nel nome del prete don Angelo Ferraù, in cui si giustappongono tradizione cristiana e pagana. Altro esempio rilevante, che connota l’attenzione di Buttafuoco per il dato propriale come elemento identitario / denigratorio, è costituito dalla sequenza onomastica «principe Pignatelli Soprano Coppola di ’sta Minchia». Si tratta dell’uso di un’apostrofe di registro basso – Coppola di ’sta minchia – che diviene calembour grazie al valore anfibologico del cognome Coppola e all’elevazione del sostantivo comune minchia ad antroponimo segnalato dall’iniziale maiuscola e funzionale a destituire il personaggio – un rampollo della nobiltà siciliana – da ogni autorevolezza di classe. Un ennesimo pupo, più vicino agli stilemi della farsa che a quelli del teatro.

L'articolo esamina il complesso rapporto di Walter Benjamin con il romanzo poliziesco, ponendo il detective come una delle tante metamorfosi del flâneur, una figura che si muove tra gli enigmi della modernità e svela il “lato oscuro” della metropoli. Benjamin collega la nascita e l'evoluzione del romanzo poliziesco all'avvento delle nuove tecnologie ottiche e alle forme di sorveglianza panottica che esse hanno reso possibili: dispositivi che moltiplicano le tracce individuali e consentono allo Stato di registrare e monitorare i propri sudditi. Tuttavia, il detective funge anche da critica dei valori borghesi, in particolare della fissazione per il possesso, la segretezza e l'accumulo. Tracciando ciò che si nasconde dietro la fantasmagoria del progresso, il detective diventa, in ultima analisi, per Benjamin, una figura dello storico materialista, il cui compito è quello di scoprire i crimini del passato e riscattare le vittime dimenticate di una storia segnata dalla violenza e dall'oppressione.

This paper aims to investigate Antonio Gramsci’s analysis of detective
fiction as developed in his Prison Notebooks. Specifically, it seeks to demonstrate how Gramsci’s reflections construct a conceptual framework that links the strategic analysis of fascism – as a totalitarian phenomenon that transforms public sentiment toward criminals and the apparatuses of justice – with the literary dimension of politics. To this end, the study will examine selected paragraphs from the Notebooks using a philological method inspired by the most recent contributions of the National Edition of Gramsci’s Writings, currently in progress. The development of these notes will be analyzed, along with the phenomenology of the detectives studied by Gramsci – Javert, Father Brown, and Sherlock Holmes. This investigation should help shed light on a still underexplored aspect of Gramsci’s prison work: the tight connection between the semantic and conceptual broadening of the notion of “police” and the detective story as a modern form of the popular novel.

This paper investigates the theme of female subjugation in Susan Glaspell's Trifles. The micro-level observations made by women are considered as mere trifles by dismissing them from the legal investigation. Yet, the women eventually succeed in becoming the real heroes through their silent resistance by protecting Minnie. Their common shared experience of suffering enables them to build the strong emotional bond and thus empowering them to uncover the truth which they prefer to conceal from the men only to serve justice. The women's curious eyes catch the evidence by the moment they enter the house while the superficial men fail to perceive the reality hidden in these apparently irrelevant details. The paper argues that Glaspell critiques the malecentred legal system and reclaims the domestic sphere as a vital site of knowledge, resistance, and ethical judgement to validate how women's marginalization becomes the actual source of authority and ethical judgement. To authenticate its central argument, this paper draws on the feminist theory of Bell Hooks-that condemns patriarchy and encourages women's canonical role in literature and society. Bell Hooks' books The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love, and Feminist Theory: from margin to centre function as the primary theoretical aspect.

Prof. Dr. Serdal Bahçe ile gerçekleştirilen bu söyleşide, polisiye (özellikle cinai) romanın kapitalist toplumun tarihsel ve sınıfsal çelişkileriyle kurduğu ilişki, hukuk sistemine yönelik eleştirel yaklaşımı ve edebi tür olarak özgül konumu tartışılmaktadır. Söyleşide, "düşük edebiyat-yüksek edebiyat" ayrımına yönelik eleştiriler üzerinden polisiye romanın toplumsal sağduyu üretme kapasitesi ele alınmakta; cinayetin kapitalist toplumda birikmiş çelişkilerin dışavurumu olarak nasıl kurgulaştırıldığı incelenmektedir. İngiliz ve Amerikan polisiyesi arasındaki tarihsel ve hukuksal farklılıklar, dedektif figürünün dönüşümü, okurun kurgunun aktif bir unsuru haline gelişi ve hukuk sistemine duyulan yapısal güvensizlik söyleşinin temel eksenlerini oluşturmaktadır. Ayrıca, cinai romanın kapitalizmin farklı evreleriyle birlikte geçirdiği dönüşümler, rasyonel ve irrasyonel cinayet ayrımı çerçevesinde değerlendirilmekte; Türkiye'de polisiyenin sınırlı gelişimi kurgu gücü, hukuksal yapı ve eşitsiz kapitalist gelişme bağlamında ele alınmaktadır. Söyleşi, polisiye edebiyatın yalnızca bir "boş zaman" türü değil, hukuk, sınıf ve iktidar ilişkilerini görünür kılan eleştirel bir anlatı alanı sunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

Based on a library research, this paper aims at introducing the police procedural as a subgenre of detective genre. To achieve the aim, this paper elaborately discusses three definitions of the police procedural. The discussion shows that experts have apparently provided a working definition of the police procedural after having identified how the new variant is different from, and yet the same as the “parent” genre. While the third definition discussed puts emphasis on the authentic and realistic aspects of the police procedural, the first two definitions can be used as a reference to elaborately discuss the police procedural as a variant or subgenre of the detective genre. The police procedural retains the basic conventional elements of the detective genre—plot and motifs, character, setting, theme, and props, but it twists these elements and turn them into inventions to keep the interest of the readers and viewers. This paper investigates the development of machine learning (ML) algorithms for classifying metallic objects in metal detectors using the STM32F7 microcontroller, focusing on real-time analysis of input signals at 17.5 kHz. The system integrates the STM32F746 (Cortex-M7, 216 MHz) with inductive coil sensors generating signals that reflect electromagnetic properties of detected objects. Scientific novelty lies in adapting compact ML models, such as k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) and Support Vector Machines (SVM), to operate within the limited resources of the STM32F7 (320 KB RAM, 1 MB Flash), enabling classification of iron, aluminum, and copper with 88–92% accuracy based on phase shifts and amplitudes. Data are transmitted via Wi-Fi to a portable computer, including not only VDI outputs but also raw ADC signals and contextual parameters (depth, soil, weather) for model training. Experimental tests on a prototype similar to the X-Finder (Patent UA 156684 U, 2024) with an extended dataset demonstrate a 35–40% reduction in false positives versus threshold-based methods. The system complies with DSTU EN 60335-1:2015 and DSTU EN IEC 63000:2020 standards, offering potential applications in archaeology and demining.

Sherlock Holmes is an internationally famous synonym both for detection and for Englishness. This thesis accounts for his success by looking at the emergence of the detective story in the context of its French origins. English eccentricity and French rationality are amongst the major national stereotypes disseminated through various literary representions in the nineteenth century. This study provides an overview of these representations and then proceeds to demonstrate how the history of the French police, the memoirs of Francois Vidocq, ex-criminal turned head of the Sürete, and the translation and publication of the stories of Edgar Allan Poe in France provide the background for the French writer Emile Gaboriau (1832-1873). Domestic violence, or as sometimes known as family abuse, is usually related to a domestic or local setting as in cohabitation or in marriage. It can take the forms of being physical, verbal, economic or emotional. Globally, most of the domestic violence is overwhelmingly directed to females as they tend to experience and receive severe forms of violence, most likely because they do not involve their intimate, or sometimes even non-intimate partners, in the process of mental and physical self-defense. Sometimes countries justify domestic violence directed to females, they may be legally permitted when the reasons behind it are related to issues of women's infidelity. Usually, the permission to violent acts is related to the level of gender equality postulated in these countries. Familial or domestic violence may progress when it is directed against any partner in society. In its evolution, domestic violence may develop different violent dynamics out of human choices. In Glaspell's play, domestic violence has led the hard-natured Mr. Wright to his death, a nature that is articulated to his wife as a fatal execution of her own freedom and humanity. The kitchen, a place which men consider trivial, holds the clues leading the female characters in the play to discover the identity of the murderer. This discovery causes, in the audience as well as in the female characters, a dilemma of judging the domestic violence executed by the murderer under the pressures of emasculated patriarchal culture overwhelming that closed society.

This article is dedicated to the analyses of the narration of Paul Auster’s postmodern novel “The New York Trilogy”. First of all, general and theoretical principles of the classical, modernist and postmodernist narration are presented in the current scientific paper. Since P. Auster is the representative of American postmodernist literature, his trilogy is being analyzed in comparison with the modernist trilogy of famous Irish writer S. Beckett. One of the fundamental elements of postmodern narration – metafiction – is examined in the writer's work – “The New York Trilogy”.
