The system would be able to utilize an off-grid PV system, meaning it can be used in areas with no grid power. A dedicated high frequency inverter (100 kHz) is designed for the purpose of connecting the PV system to the wireless power transfer system and the Litz wire transmission coils that can operate at high frequency. The secondary side of the WPT would include a rectifier, buck converter, battery protection, and data logging units. Microcontrollers will be installed on both secondary and primary side to be able to initiate/stop the charging process, log data etc. This project promotes the overall goal towards a completely autonomous drone as it helps to charge the drone without the need for human intervention. The FPA is a new metaheuristic optimization technique, which takes a biological approach to flower pollination. The FPA mimics the characteristics of flower pollination according to the survival of the fittest concept. CEED represents a combination of the emission and economic dispatch functions, formulated into a single function using the penalty factor. In this paper, the effect of valve point loading in the power system network is considered to obtain minimum fuel cost, minimum emissions, and optimum power generation. PV source is directly connected to induction motor based pump load through a single stage inverter along with MPPT and V/F capabilities to match the non-linear load and source characteristics. While performing these operations, closed loop rechecking capability is incorporated to the V/F induction motor drive for better accuracy, which decreases the run time of system and results in energy saving to the user. Closed loop pumping operation with load torque and MPPT as feedback to the controller, used for generating PWM pulses to the inverter for V/F control. MATLAB/SIMULINK is used to simulate the proposed configuration and presented a closed loop solution under various irradiations and at different load torque conditions. The simulation result shows that the proposed closed loop method is economical, efficient and performance is superior.

This new converter with a conventional modulation scheme offers several unique features, such as a) a lower number of components and b) reduced voltage stress on the capacitor compared to existing topologies. The reduction of capacitor voltage stress has the potential of improving the reliability and enhancing converter lifespan. This paper introduces a new capacitor clamped three-phase dc–ac converter with an intrinsic step-... more This paper introduces a new capacitor clamped three-phase dc–ac converter with an intrinsic step-up abilities by utilizing small passive components. This proposed inverter has several unique features, such as: 1) lower number of components’ count; 2) high dc–ac gain; 3) reduced voltage stresses on the capacitor; 4) offers better power quality (very low voltage and current total harmonic distortions) without any ac-side filter; and 5) reduced voltage stress on power semiconductor devices. Reduced voltage stress on capacitors leads to better reliability and enhanced lifespan of the inverter. The analysis of the proposed inverter is completed with the help of a mathematical model and state-space averaging model. This inverter performance under different test conditions is compared with the boost converter fed voltage source inverter, Z-source inverter (ZSI), quasi-ZSI (qZSI), switched boost inverter, improved ZSI, switched inductor-ZSI, diode-Assisted qZSI, capacitor-assisted qZSI, and extended boost ZSI; MATLAB Simulink results demonstrated that the proposed inverter capabilities are superior to the above-mentioned topologies. A 1200-W experimental prototype has been built to validate the feasibility and benefits of the system. The simulation and experimental results reveal that the proposed inverter offers better power quality, reliability, and high lifetime.

Among all other types of renewable energy sources, solar is one of the best alternatives for conventional sources as it offers more advantages. This paper is mainly concentrated on the area of charge controller in solar PV power conditioning system. In this paper, a P&O method MPPT charge controller is designed and it is converted into digital domain to use in FPGA. Compared to analog controllers, digital controller offers more advantages like high accuracy, less effected by noise etc., MPPT charge controller is designed to perform 1) to convert the variable DC electrical energy which is coming from solar into fixed DC and 2) to track the maximum power from the solar PV module under all operating conditions. This fixed DC can be used to feed the DC loads or charge the batteries.

This paper mainly deals with the power conditioning system controlled with FPGA for solar PV fed systems. A power conditioning system is proposed here for PV System comprising of 2 stage power conversion using FPGA. The first stage converts the variable DC voltage obtained from solar PV module/array into fixed DC using Boost converter which operates in voltage mode control technique. In the second stage of power conversion, the output of the first stage is fed to 3-phase, 3-level Diode clamped Inverter and the same is controlled by level shifted Sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique to convert fixed DC into 3 phase AC to drive 3 phase AC loads effectively.

ABSTRACT This paper describes the development of Bi-Directional DC-DC converter (BDC) for solar a... more ABSTRACT This paper describes the development of Bi-Directional DC-DC converter (BDC) for solar application for charging and discharging the battery based on availability of supply. BDC can operated in two modes i.e., if supply is available at solar PV side BDC acts as boost converter otherwise acts as buck mode. During day time when sunlight is available, BDC acts as a Buck Converter for charging the battery. During night time, when sunlight is not available BDC acts as a Boost converter to provide supply to the load from the battery. Small signal analysis is used to design BDC operating in both modes in Matlab. Transfer functions of BDC in both modes are derived using the aforementioned analysis. Bode plots of the plant transfer function (buck & boost) were plotted to judge the stability of BDC. Controllers (type-3—boost, PID—buck) for both modes are designed by using small signal analysis. These controllers are designed in FPGA to generate PWM signals for controlling the switches in BDC.

In this paper, various existing methods for the assessment of the performance induction motor under the supply voltage unbalance have been critically reviewed to highlight their shortfalls. It has been revealed that, none of the existing methods are found proficient in the assessment of the performance of IM under the condition of supply voltage unbalanced. Further, various mitigation techniques, to reduced the cost of downtime associated with voltage unbalance, have been also discussed and it has been found that most of mitigation techniques are tentative approaches of several researchers which do not gain that much popularity, but fast-acting power electronic circuits like Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and active line conditioners are some of the incredible efforts which shows significant results.

The need of quantification of the voltage unbalance conditions is asserted to make precise and unique assessment of the performance 3-Φ IM. Further, the slip of 3-Φ IM is evaluated under different conditions and values of degree of voltage unbalance. It is revealed that the slip is not affected with the change in degree while change of the conditions of voltage unbalance greatly affects its value. Hence, slip can be considered as suitable index for the quantification of the various conditions of supply voltage unbalance. Additionally, the variations of performance parameters of 3-Φ IM, viz., efficiency, input power, power factor, copper loss, etc., with respect to slip are investigated. It is found that, these performance parameters are not only dependent on the degree of voltage unbalance but the information of slip is also required for accurate and inimitable assessment of these performance parameters.

The proposed bi-directional DC-DC converter is designed at high gain in both buck and boost modes. The implementation of this algorithm for charging and discharging control considered for the battery storage system is efficient. In both the modes of operation of the bi-directional DC-DC Converter are controlled with the help of voltage mode control. The feasibility of proposed converting is verified by the simulation.

In this present scheme, to get AC power, power conditioning has been proposed in two stages; namely in first stage maximum power will be extracted and in second stage DC power will be converted into AC power. In this research paper conversion topology has been proposed for transformer less PV system and verified its results in MATLAB Simulink which is interfaced with Xilinx system generator. To extract optimum DC power from solar PV modules MPPT charge controller is designed. In this study, constant voltage MPPT charge controller is designed based on small signal analysis of converter with PM=57° and GM=14.7dB. After this charge controller output fed to Multi level inverter for the conversion of dc to ac. Proposed multilevel inverter is offering very low line voltage THDs compared with conventional inverter and observed that they are very low, hence required less size and cost of the filter.

In case of fractional voltage type MMPT utilizes the concept of solar module voltage at maximum power condition is follows the linear relation with open circuit voltage under different temperature and insulation conditions. In this paper, an appropriate power conditioning unit of 1.15 kWp solar array, for PMDC motor, is... more In this paper, an appropriate power conditioning unit of 1.15 kWp solar array, for PMDC motor, is designed in MATLAB® and Xilinx system generator environment. The solar array consists of 7 modules in parallel configurations. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) generated pulses are used to control the proposed power conditioning system with constant voltage method maximum power point method for all types of environmental circumferences. It is revealed that the characteristics of the proposed power conditioning unit, at maximum power point tracking (MPPT) condition, are in tune with the characteristics of PMDC motor and hence found proficient to drive it. Hence, the proposed power conditioning unit can be coupled to PMDC motor, suitable for water pumping application, to reduce the crisis of water shortage in rural areas.

DC bus was created with the help of solar PV modules and charge controller to feed DC loads directly or AC loads indirectly through proposed three-level inverter. FPGA based three-level inverter was simulated on Xilinx system generator interfaced MATLAB Simulink environments. For, FPGA's have been designed at high clock frequencies; firing pulses can be generated by system generator tool at high switching frequency to control the three-level inverter in the Simulink environment. FPGA controller is economical for controlling any equipment consisting of many controllable switches. 1kwp solar PV DC supply is given to inverter as a supply to investigate the performance of a proposed inverter with a RL load of 0.8 lagging power factor. Performance parameters have been calculated with the help of Simulink powerful graphical user interface tool for performance investigation of proposed inverter. Based on performance parameters it can be judged that FPGA based three-level inverter is offering better performance compared to normal conventional inverters.

PV module is increasingly employed in utilizing the sun's energy for generating electrical energy. The photovoltaic pumping has become one of the most promising fields in photovoltaic applications especially in remote locations. As the output characteristic of a photovoltaic module is nonlinear and changes with solar irradiation and cell's temperature so attention is paid to their design and their optimal use. Therefore a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique is needed to maximize the produced energy. In this paper, the proposed work is to extract maximum power from the PV array to powered water pumping system. Boost converter with Constant voltage MPPT (CVMPPT) technique is employed to drive centrifugal pump through permanent magnet DC motor. The 1KWp solar PV array is designed and modeled in MATLAB Simulink environment. CVMPPT is implemented in Xilinx system generator which is interfaced with MATLAB Simulink to control the DC-DC boost converter model in order to extract power to drive PMDC motor. The detailed study is carried out and the results are presented.

This paper presented the simulation results of Photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system for three phase AC loads. The conditioner consists of a diode clamped three level inverter fed by closed loop voltage controlled DC-DC Boost converter. This closed loop control of DC-DC converter is implemented by a conventional Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) in duty cycle ratio control method. This boost converter is designed to obtain regulated voltage from the variable solar power. A level shift sinusoidal PWM is used to control the multilevel inverter on FPGA.
