Plot
The story begins with the escape from marriage by Shen Li, the Bi Cang King of the Spirit Realm. As a top-tier warrior prince of the Spirit Realm, Shen Li flees to the mortal world to avoid a political marriage, loses her magical powers, and reverts to her original form (a phoenix), ending up in the marketplace. In the mortal world, she is unexpectedly rescued and purchased by the reclusive "mortal" Xingyun. Xingyun appears frail and leisurely, but his identity is shrouded in mystery. As they spend time together, feelings gradually develop between them.
However, Shen Li's true identity is soon exposed, forcing her to return to the Spirit Realm to fulfill her responsibilities. Simultaneously, Xingyun's real identity is revealed—he is actually the last remaining ancient god in the world, named Xingzhi. As an ancient god, Xingzhi bears the heavy responsibility of maintaining the balance of the heavenly order across the Three Realms, and emotions are a "taboo" he must forsake. Undercurrents surge between the Spirit Realm and the Immortal Realm, and a grand conspiracy gradually emerges, threatening the peace of the Three Realms.
The love between Shen Li and Xingzhi faces numerous trials between personal feelings, clan responsibilities, and the laws of heaven. They must confront pressures and challenges from all sides together, seeking a difficult balance between protecting all living beings and pursuing the love in their hearts. The plot unfolds within the grand narrative of personal destiny and the fate of the world, depicting a legendary immortal love story marked by intense conflict and unwavering devotion.

Cultural Impact
As a highly anticipated fantasy drama, "The Journey of Phoenix" generated significant cultural impact during its broadcast. Firstly, the series marks the long-awaited reunion of Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin since "Princess Agents," evoking a strong sense of nostalgia among viewers and becoming a hot topic on social media.
Secondly, the drama pursues an Eastern aesthetic in its visual presentation. Its set design, costumes, props, and special effects represent a modern interpretation of classical Chinese mythological elements, providing a new paradigm for the visual presentation of fantasy dramas. The constructed worldview of the "God," "Spirit," and "Immortal" realms also sparked discussions among audiences about Eastern mythological systems and philosophical ideas.
Furthermore, the characterization of the protagonists is not limited to simple romance but delves into the dialectical relationships between "divinity" and "humanity," "duty" and "self," and "destiny" and "defiance." Shen Li's portrayal as a powerful and independent female ruler, and Xingzhi's struggle with emotions under the shackles of divinity, add richer layers to the characters, prompting viewers to reflect on individual fate and free will.
The drama's popularity also reignited interest in the original novel and spawned a vast amount of online fan creations (such as video edits, fan fiction, and artwork), further expanding its IP influence. It became a significant phenomenon in Chinese pop culture in 2024.
