Cultural Impact

As a phenomenal historical drama, "The Princess Weiyang" generated significant cultural impact during its broadcast. Firstly, the series greatly increased the popularity of the original novel "The Poisonous Daughter," fueling the trend of adapting web literature IPs for film and television. The image of the female lead, Li Weiyang, as someone who "rises from adversity" and is "both intelligent and courageous," to some extent resonated with contemporary audiences, especially female viewers' expectations for independent and strong female characters, sparking discussions about the "strong female lead" narrative mode.

Secondly, the series invested heavily in costumes, hair, and makeup. Its lavish costume and headdress designs, although differing from authentic historical attire, created a unique visual style, driving a trend of "ancient-style" aesthetics. Related looks were widely imitated and discussed on social media and short video platforms.

Furthermore, this series also marked the beginning of the real-life romance between lead actors Tang Yan and Luo Jin. The two fell in love on set and eventually married, adding an extra layer of romantic color to the series and becoming a topic of delight among fans. However, the series also sparked some controversy regarding plot adaptations and the handling of historical details. Overall, with its intense dramatic conflicts and emotional tension, "The Princess Weiyang" successfully attracted a large audience, becoming one of the significant works in the 2016 television market.
