Mahesh Dattani as a dramatist of modern India has shown his concern for the fringe issues, the issues of hijras who were either avoided as a non-issue or a taboo for they were not the subject of the mainstream society. The present paper deals with Seven Steps Around the Fire that focusses on the plight and predicament ofthe class. The methodologies used are critical analyses under extant literary theories on the subject, analytical study, comparative study of other dramas of the author and myth to establish the fact as to how the community of eunuchs are subjugated and pushed to a virtual world of margins in which they find no space for themselves as human beings. Life seems to be a drudgery and disrespect, yet none speaks for them. It also highlights Dattani's social concern whileshowing a heightened consciousness of existential pain that these people endure as a result of prejudice in their daily lives. One distinct tool of Dattani's use of indigenous English that creates a distinction between the educated and semi-literate and marginalized class is taken support of that gives way of acceptance, graduallythough. A straightjacketed classes and groups are shown on its path of change and mobility heralding a new India.

The paper attempts to peep through the volumes of poetry and short stories left behind by K.N.Daruwalla, the celebrated poet of the IWE. A paradigm of post 70s India, its socio political and cultural dimensions that find a space in his stupendous works reflecting insights of life, Wit and realism is endeavoured to muse in the occasion of his bidding goodbye to the world recently. Some of the major themes and Indian idioms of everyday life of immediacy of experience are analysed through the lens of both primary and secondary sources. The methodology adopted is a combination of archival research, analysis of discourse, and critical evaluation. The discussion shows the craftsmanship of a poet of event poems or camera poems whose Poetry has been a voyage through terse realities of life as a policeman and hence, often it is full of incisive phrases, irony and satire, experiential imagery, rhetorical devices and skilfully condensed ideas. Thus, a firsthand personal observation and experience of corruption in public life, social vices, the period of emergency and political change over of 70s, lacuna of the system, impact of postcolonialism and postmodernism, identity crisis, the follies and foibles turn into a pen picture shifting it from personal to universal experience.

This paper provides a psychological interpretation of Toni Morrison's novels, The Bluest Eye and Sula. Itexamines how race, culture, and social structure shape individual identity and self-worth. Examining the profound impact of cultural and structural racism on the mental and emotional development of its characters. It argues that the internalisation of dominant white standards of beauty and worth leads to significant psychological trauma and the fracturing of identity. The analysis centres on two young African-American girls, Pecola Breedlove and Claudia MacTeer, as they navigate a society that consistently devalues their existence. The paper contrasts Claudia's psychological resilience, which is supported by a nurturing, albeit flawed, family, with Pecola's gradual descent into self-hatred. Ultimately, Pecola's tragic desire for "the bluest eyes" is revealed not as a simple wish but as a devastating symptom of her complete psychological breakdown, illustrating how systemic racism and sexism can inflict deep, irreparable mental wounds.

more
Eco-criticism as a separate branch of study has only been established in the latter decades of the last century but the mutual relationship of man and nature has always been a matter of interest for poets and writers down the ages. The growing environment issues have recently attracted the concerns of scientists and philosophers equally. Literature as a mirror of social environment reflects the interconnectedness of all life forms on earth and natural features. This paper is a keen attempt to investigate the relationship of man and physical environment in the light of eco-critical theories and seeks to establish how English literature has been instrumental in developing interest of people towards the environmental concerns. Select texts from Indian and Britishfiction have been approached for the study and examples have been drawn to establish the role of literature in creating ecological consciousness.

more
Indian Writing in English emerged as a notable genre in the late 20th century, with Daruwalla holding a significant position as a commentator on the life of his era. The fundamental aim of this paper is to present an authentic depiction of India's extensive landscape, along with its political and social context, behaviours, customs, moral failings, corruption, environment, and, significantly, the Indian way of expressing an Indian perspective that reveals its inequities realistically. This realism is contrasted with the understanding of realism in the 19th and 20th centuries, examining how it both aligns with and diverges from those definitions, thereby establishing a unique and realistic literary technique.A selection of poems is examined to provide a cross-sectional view of poetic style from the collection, emphasizing thematic elements related to realism that depict India in the 1970s and beyond. At his core, he was a moralist who aspired to see the nation improve or, more aptly, become a place where one could truly feel at home.

more
This study examines Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye through the lens of mirrored desires, exploring how alien standards of beauty and societal ideals distort the quest for self within the Black community. Morrison's novels, rich with the lore, humours, language, values, and beliefs of Black culture, serve as a backdrop against which she dissects major threats that compel Black individuals to distance themselves from their ethnic heritage. These threats, including externally imposed beauty standards, materialism, and the pervasive legacy of slavery, fundamentally challenge the development of an authentic existential selfhood. This abstract posits that Morrison's penetrating analysis of these issues, particularly Pecola Breedlove's tragic pursuit of whiteness, offers a provocative commentary on how such distorted resolutions ultimately defeat intrinsic community values, rather than affirming them.

Doll's House (1879) by Henrik Ibsen occupies a pivotal place in the evolution of modern drama. Nora Helmer's journey from dutiful domesticity to conscious self-liberation exemplifies the assertion of individual agency against bourgeois patriarchy. Drawing upon Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex and Gail Finney's "Ibsen and Feminism," this study situates Ibsen as both a dramatist of ethics and a social critic, exposing the structuralfunctional limitations and hypocrisies inherent in bourgeois domestic life. Nora's transformation transcends the personal, embodying a universal ethical challenge: the reclamation of selfhood and the questioning of social norms that restrict moral and intellectual freedom. The play's enduring significance lies in its reconfiguration of the female protagonist from a passive domestic stereotype to an active force capable of asserting the self, transcending narrow bounds and constraints. Through a combination of close textual analysis and historical contextualisation, this paper argues that Ibsen's work not only anticipates the emergence of feminist consciousness in late nineteenth-century Europe but also continues to inspire the search for a liberated society, resonating as a transformative force. Ultimately, the play transforms the image of the woman from a passive ideal to an active agent of change, blending Ibsen's humanist vision with the ensuing feminist concerns in modern times.

more
The recent development in the cosmetics industry has been spectacular because of the demand for skincare and haircare products, changing lifestyles, and increasing awareness of grooming oneself. Consumer behaviour has become a vital issue to researchers and other marketers in this kill-or-be-killed marketplace, to determine factors that influence consumer decisions. The demographic aspects that affect the attitudes of Himachal Pradesh consumers towards cosmetics are analysed in this research. The research paper is based on the correlation between the usage of cosmetic products and demographic factors, such as age, gender, marital status, profession, dwelling place, suburbs, qualification, and monthly salary. The main source of data utilised in the study comprised 450 respondents who were allocated a structured questionnaire in three districts of Himachal Pradesh: Kangra, Mandi and Shimla. The data, collected from places were analysed through the help of the SPSS software with the use of the descriptive statistical tools, such as frequency distribution and percentage analysis. The survey will provide a full demographic profile of the cosmetic customers in the area of the study. The findings indicate that youths and more so those within the age group of 18-25 years constitute the largest proportion of the customers of cosmetic products and women form the largest proportion of cosmetic users. Most of the responders as per the findings, are rural-based and hold graduate or doctoral degrees. Moreover, a large proportion of consumers falls under the low-and middle-income groups, meaning that consumers with average purchasing power are the frequent consumers of cosmetics. The research provides useful data about the demographics of the customers of cosmetics in Himachal Pradesh that may assist the marketers in designing more effective products and marketing strategies to several categories of consumers.

more
Soft skills training has become a very common practice in India and abroad in recent time, especially with the acceleration of globalization process. The present paper attempts to trace the necessity of soft skills training in Indian perspectives. It discusses that the growth of modern education system during the period of colonization was the foundation upon which all the modern education systems and their concomitant problems stand. A close study of Indian history is carried out as it forms the back ground of an indigenous and a well-established system of education. The gurukulas and ashramas were the focal centres of education in ancient India. Lord Macaulay's charter on Indian education changed the face, which we still carry forward. The case studies and knowledge papers have been analysed to trace the different parameters for soft skills. The practical modules and its methodology that are being practised are elucidated. The difference of soft and hard skills are elucidated and the skills gap discussed for a balanced education that can inculcate right values for the youth to fit into global community for greater good and welfare of many.

The larger issues of Dattani’s drama centers on subaltern perspectives as to women
as central characters in his drama. He takes up his subject from the complex mosaic of
modern Indian urban society. With the emergence of subaltern studies in the 70s and 80s,
Dattani could not resist his own concern for the lot of doubly dispossessed. Invisible issues
as central theme of subaltern perspective are reflected as visible issues while presenting
them through his crafty dialogue, skillful use of Indianisation of English and stage setting.
Dattani’s women as proletariat middle class group who falls into the category of unfortunate
people under denial of social status and who are subject to economic and cultural hegemony
of the powerful class in the society. The present paper attempts to unravel as to how Dattani’s
subaltern is not a classy term, instead, it delineates the space of difference between the
ruling classes and those whose voices have been consistently snuffed out of the patriarchal/
casteist/ dominant narrative and the dominant cultural perspective. Select dramas have
been studies to focus on the subject of subalternity of women through the methodology of
critical analysis in terms of extant literary theories.

Dattani's plays abound thematic variation, plot dynamics and after all engrossed entertainment reflecting not only the issues of marginalised sections like eunuchs, women, g&y,minority community but also certain issues that apart from drawing our sympathies, it takes us to the presence of the protagonists around us in everyday life who reverberate in our mind as modern myth of suffering women. The situatedness of the protagonists, their struggle for space, joys and solrows, their account of life gives others of their likes the strength to make life more meaningful. Two ofthe plays fall into special category: Tara (1991) reflecting the condition of disabitity of Tara, crippled by birth and EkAtag Mausam(2005) that shows the plight ofAparna, another married woman fighting her double marginalisation of being a woman and her fatal disease of HIV positive. The present paper investigates both the plays that deal with female protagonists of the contemporary society who are pushed to extreme degree of marginality, yet how they fight the btights asAlka did in the Bravely Fought the Queen.

more
Rabindranath Tagore stands as a millennium in himself reflecting the ancient Indian wisdom through the raptures of his lyrics and mystic vision. His metaphysical bent of mind was quite rooted to the realities of his time inasmuch as he served as an anchor of intellectual moorings upon which the emerging nation state was to set foot on to shape a new course of journey. As a liberal humanist he advocated for Inclusive nationalism. The national anthem itself speaks of universality of Indian thought. He crystallised the Indian Renaissance of new awakening in the 19 th century via the path of Bengal Renaissance which first stimulated all the Indian vernaculars of a promise of lofty creative potentials. Tagor's international repute as the first noble Laureate of Asia helped the subalterns to gain a voice during freedom struggle. Though the English translation of his poems and other literary works lost the vitality of language, the mellifluous rhyming quality, lyrical beauty and the word-magic but the power of his vision continues to be a source of great inspiration for whoever reads them. This paper is attempted to illumine on Tagore's universality as a poet-seer and his relevance in modern time when the world is still reeling under indeterminacy of post modern fluidity that continues to witness global terrorism, religious hatred, racism, rampant corruption and discrimination of various sorts. Hence, it is worth that the myriad minded man, 'the East of Suez', may be reviewed afresh for his universality and relevance ever.

more
William Golding's authentic fictional craftsmanship attempts to unravel the modern world's predicaments. His visionary eye and a subtle intellect have embarked upon intimately related, yet a variety of panoramic characters who represent every categories of human being in the world. A binary structure runs through his fiction. Each fiction is inevitably marked by the experiences of two protagonists; their journeys through life in uncommon, difficult historical or geographical settings develop along the lines of two different ideologies through which, eventually, the author's philosophical aim shines through. Visionary outbursts of the characters crutch upon the fluctuating symbols and metaphors as conscious expression of metaphysical meaning of 'Being and Becoming' while exploring where is the bridge between the two world of rationality and spirituality, how an individual character unravels the mystery of life and either moves away from or attain to the point of where man and god subsume. The central argument from which this paper unfolds is the author's exploration of the man's mind from superficial consciousness to the most hidden recesses of the unconscious depth.
