Trans artist guidelines
re. removing deadnames, I would go for it! (if it’s the artists wish/intent)
If you are challenged unfortunately style guidance doesn’t support removing deadnames unless they were never used as an artist credit on a release (
style lead post A
). This leaves things like aliases, ‘legal name’ relationships, ‘member of’ credits, etc that should always be changed or removed (if they have been changed or removed from official/artist source text, e.g. Bandcamp pages).
Where you can’t remove a deadname (see above) the style guidance is that we should change all release groups, recordings and works to the true name (
style lead post B
). If a (probably digital) release was edited to reflect the true name, add another release in the group with the update. At the time of writing the jury is out on whether to set the date to the date of the change or use the same date as the initial deadname release.
