Training Centers and Ranges
The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife operates two educational centers that provide free programs and resources to schools and other educational groups.
The Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC) and DuPont Nature Center (DNC) offer a variety of programming focused on aquatic species and other environmental education topics, from microorganisms found in local wetlands to migratory shorebirds that visit Delaware’s coastlines from around the world.

Nestled within the Woodland Beach Wildlife area, the
Aquatic Resources Education Center
features several ponds, a 940-foot tidal marsh boardwalk and various other scenic natural areas offering a prime venue for exploring the Delaware Bay coastal ecosystem and the abundant wildlife it supports.
Educational Offerings
The
Eco-Explorers Program
is a field trip to a tidal salt marsh for fifth grade students. At this hands-on program, students act as scientists exploring the workings of a tidal salt marsh located in the Woodland Beach Wildlife area.

The
DuPont Nature Center
, located within the ecologically significant Mispillion Harbor Reserve, is a science-based educational and interpretive facility with interactive exhibits designed to connect people with the Delaware Bay’s natural history and ecology. It is a perfect place for immersive environmental education experiences.
Educational Offerings
The nature center’s educational programs focus on an array of topics concerning the Delaware Bay ecosystem such as horseshoe crabs, shorebirds, climate change and more.
Programming opportunities span grade ranges from kindergarten through 12
th
grade and can be specified to curriculum and student needs.
Grant Opportunities
Are you a Title 1 or High Needs Delaware school? The DuPont Nature Center offers a grant program to reimburse schools for transportation costs for field trip visits. Please contact the Nature Center to learn more and fill out an application.
