Adventure Facilitators*
ADVENTURE FACILITATOR
DESCRIPTION
Adventure Facilitators design and execute wilderness-based and human powered adventure programs. Programs may include backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and backcountry skiing/boarding. With

professional staff and other

DUTIES
Facilitate human powered and wilderness-based programs on campus and in remote regions.
Handle on site inquiries, concerns, conflict situations, and policy infractions
Enforce program, department, University, and state policies
Responsible for first response to injuries or illness in accordance with UREC/WSU policies, as well as American Red Cross guidelines (front-country) and Wilderness First Aid training (backcountry areas)
Responsible for organizing and implementing emergency evacuation of activity areas as necessary
Teach Leave No Trace Awareness courses and log participation
Pre- and post-trip work.
Inspect equipment and document inspection
Research all information pertinent to activities and driving routes to activity site
Determine all potential hazards and risks associated with program and area
Communicate program details with patrons prior to trip
Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed in a timely manner, e.g. participant forms, emergency action plan documents, and post-trip documentation

Challenge Facilitators*

Group Fitness Instructor*

Lead instruction courses for anywhere from 5-40 people in the following locations: Student Recreation Center, Stephenson Fitness, and Chinook Student Center

Lifeguard*
UREC LIFEGUARD
DESCRIPTION
A UREC Lifeguard primarily provides patron surveillance at 3 on campus pools (the Student Recreation (SRC) Center Pool/Spa, Gibb Pool, and Smith Pool). They also complete various cleaning tasks while working at the SRC Pool and perform water chemistry testing at all 3 pools. Other parts of the lifeguard position involve attending and
participating
in monthly
trainings, responding to injuries and illnesses, and enforcing facility policies.
DUTIES
Supervise the aquatic environment to ensure the health and safety of the patrons;
Conduct and document daily inspection of aquatic areas and equipment;
Participate in 4 hours of monthly in-service training sessions;
Handle on site inquiries, concerns, conflict situations, rule enforcement, and discipline;
Administer first aid/handle emergency situations and complete appropriate forms as necessary;
Perform related secondary duties as assigned;
Responsible for emergency evacuation of activity areas as necessary;
First response to all emergencies in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines and UREC/WSU policies;
Contact emergency services when necessary;
Report emergencies through proper reporting lines;

2) After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes b treading.
3) After maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards.
While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control.
You may use Front Crawl(/Freestyle), breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed for this prerequisite.
Prerequisite 2: Timed Event
You have 1 minute and 40 seconds to complete the following sequence:
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water.
Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming the distance underwater is permitted.
Exit the water without using a ladder or the steps.
Swim Goggles are not allowed for this prerequisite.

Personal Trainer*

Personal Trainers will also work at least one shift per week as a Weight Room Attendant in the SRC or teach a group fitness class.
DUTIES

Cougar Kids Camp Group Leader

Cougar Kids Camp Counselors design and lead engaging, age-appropriate recreational activities for youth

INTRAMURAL OFFICIAL
DESCRIPTION
Temporary, part time position.
Intramural Officials
facilitate
competitive and recreational sport leagues and tournaments by enforcing rules,
maintaining
game flow, and ensuring participant safety. Sports may include basketball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, softball, and specialty events. With training and support from professional staff, officials
are responsible for
rule knowledge, conflict resolution, scorekeeping, game management, and professional communication with participants. Officials contribute to a positive, fair, and
sportsmanlike environment
while upholding UREC policies and risk management standards.
DUTIES
Actively supervise assigned areas/facilities/programs
Provide excellent customer service
Enforce program, department, University, and state policies
Respond to injuries or illness in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines and UREC/WSU policies
Facilitate emergency evacuation of activity areas as necessary
Complete Incident reports and other required documentation
Inspect assigned areas and report and/or resolve hazards according to training
Obtain and maintain all required certifications

Graduate Staff Assistant: Cougar Crew
Position Overview
Responsible for the development of technically, mentally, and physically competitive student-athletes to represent Washington State University Cougar Crew, a varsity-club sport within University Recreation.  Duties include active and ongoing recruitment, implementation of an effective training program under the direction of the Head Coach for Cougar Crew, as well as ensuring team compliance with University Recreation and Washington State University policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit new athletes from WSU student population via outreach at campus events
Assist with coaching assigned team including planning and supervising of club practices according to safety standards and industry best practices under the guidance of Head Coach
Complete and submit necessary paperwork and documentation regarding accidents, incidents, results, participation, practice outlines in a timely fashion
Attend necessary meetings and trainings at the direction of University Recreation and the Head Coach
Completion of required WSU and UREC trainings/certifications and attendance at mandatory UREC staff meetings and trainings
Other duties as assigned by Cougar Crew Head Coach and UREC Assistant Director, Competitive Sports
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree
Ability to work 20 hours per week in person, including nights and weekends
Ability to work scheduled hours
Valid drivers license and the ability to obtain and maintain WSU driver trainings and WSU driver’s authorization within 1 month of hire
Strong communication, organizational and leadership/management skills
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Collegiate or club rowing coaching experience
2 or more years of crew coaching experience at the collegiate level
Level 1 or higher US Rowing Coaching certification
Experience with high level rowing
Experience with recruiting high school and on campus athletes
COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Computer knowledge, including proficiency with Windows based computer system and Microsoft applications.
Ability to learn, adhere to and uphold University Recreation sport club and Washington State University policies and procedures

Understanding of rules and regulations established by University Recreation and Washington State University with regards to sport club operations

COMPENSATION
Salary Range 59-69, based on the position’s location and the successful applicant's educational experience and level as per Article 35.1 of WSU and UAW Contract Ratified for Academic Student Employees.
Note: WSU shall deduct Union dues and any initiation fees from each paycheck as soon as reasonably practical, but no later than the second payroll after receipt of written notification.

Assistantship Tuition Waivers
Graduate assistants who maintain at least a half-time (20 hrs. /wk.) appointment are eligible for full tuition waivers. To qualify for a tuition waiver,
students must reside within the state of Washington.
Non-resident graduate students on assistantship appointments are eligible for a non-resident waiver for the out-of-state portion of tuition during the first year they are on assistantship appointment at WSU, provided they live in Washington State during their enrollment. During that first year, students are responsible for taking all necessary steps to establish legal residency in the state of Washington. If residency is not established, non-resident graduate students will be responsible for non-resident tuition after their first academic year. International students are provided an out-of-state tuition waiver with their assistantship appointment throughout their academic career.
