Eyes on Asteroids
Track over 30,000 asteroids that are near Earth’s orbit, see the next 5 closest approaches to Earth, and learn about current and historic NASA asteroid and comet missions in this real-time 3D simulation of the solar system.
Try out the interactive "scrolly-telling" that lets you learn about how we define a close approach or how we determine if an asteroid or comet is categorized as a "Potentially Hazardous Object." Or ride along with NASA missions as we make historical discoveries about asteroids and comets, such as the first time we landed on an asteroid, or impacted a comet. See the DART mission impact with a binary asteroid system, and much more. Eyes on Asteroids lets you track all the latest discoveries.

Eyes on Exoplanets
An exoplanet is a planet that is not in our solar system. It is estimated that there is at least one planet for every star in the galaxy, so there are a huge number to discover. Explore over 5,500 confirmed exoplanet systems in this 3D interactive simulation.  You can visit every exoplanet ever discovered and ride along with the spacecraft that found them. The app is constantly updated for the latest discoveries, and you can visit any system, compare it to our solar system, and see if any of the planets reside in the "habitable zone", indicating a possibility of life.
Browse by planet type, detection method, or observatory, or see just the discoveries made by the Kepler and TESS missions. You can land on Earth and see a map of all the known exoplanets from your hometown.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku
In mid-April 2026, a powerful typhoon bore down on the Mariana Islands in the North Pacific Ocean. The storm, Super Typhoon Sinlaku, was notable for reaching such exceptional strength so early in the year. The storm continued along its northwest track toward the Marianas on the morning of April 14, as storm bands began to bring heavy rain to the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Hurricane Imelda
On September 29th, 2025, the NOAA-20 satellite captured this image of Hurricane Imelda off the coast of the eastern U.S. in the Atlantic Ocean. According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm became a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday, September 30th. The hurricane is moving east-northeast and is moving away from the southeastern United States.
Hurricane Erin
On Aug. 21, 2025, the Terra satellite captured this image of Hurricane Erin off the coast of the eastern U.S. in the Atlantic Ocean. According to the National Hurricane Center, Erin formed on Aug. 11 east of the Cape Verde Islands and strengthened as it traveled west. On Aug. 15, Erin became the first hurricane of the season, undergoing a period of rapid intensification and strengthening from a Category 1 to a Category 5 hurricane in around 24 hours. Erin then weakened as it turned away from the U.S. East Coast and grew in size. Around the time of the image, Erin had tropical storm winds extending around 575 miles (925 kilometers) across with speeds of about 100 mph (155 kph), making it a Category 2 storm.
Klyuchevskoy Volcano Erupts Large Ash Cloud
NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of the Klyuchevskoy volcano erupting on Aug. 7, 2025. The light gray ash cloud casts a dark gray shadow, making the ash plume appear as a white and black streak. The Klyuchevskoy volcano is located on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula and first started erupting in April. The activity increased in late July, although the uptick was unrelated to the July 29 earthquake in the region. Then, on August 6, the volcano began to belch ash plumes 38,00 feet (11.5 kilometers) into the atmosphere. The Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team raised the aviation hazard to red – the highest level of alert – on August 6.
Smoke from Canadian Wildfires Drifts Eastward
The NOAA-21 satellite captured this image on Aug. 4, 2025, showing widespread smoke from wildfires in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The wispy, light gray clouds of smoke stretch across the Great Lakes region, the northeastern U.S., Nova Scotia, and beyond. Large wildfires in Manitoba and Saskatchewan began burning in May and have continued all summer. According to the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, the number of fires in Canada is slightly below the long-term average for this time of year, but the amount of land area burned is more than double the long-term average.
Grand Canyon Wildfire Grows Rapidly
NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of plumes of smoke coming from the Dragon Bravo wildfire on July 28, 2025. The fire has been burning at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona since July 4. Firefighting crews had been making progress toward containing the blaze until July 27, when historically dry air, hot temperatures, and strong winds began to spur a rapid spread of the fire. Inciweb characterized the fire behavior as “extreme,” noting that fire activity now persists through most of the day and doesn’t calm down much overnight as wildfires typically do.
Plume of Sulfur Dioxide from Iceland Volcano
This image shows the concentration of sulfur dioxide coming from an ongoing volcanic eruption in Iceland. The eruption began on July 16, 2025 and the Suomi NPP satellite captured this image on July 17. Sulfur dioxide is a natural product of volcanic activity and is shown here in blue, with lighter blue indicating higher concentrations. The eruption has produced significant amounts of sulfur dioxide, prompting air quality warnings in some parts of Iceland, according to the Icelandic Met Office.
