ABOUT FUW
The FUW is the abbreviated version of the Farmers’ Union of Wales. We are a membership body, exclusively representing the farmers of Wales.
Farmers, agriculturalists, land owners and smallholders are all welcome to join the FUW. Young people working in all aspects of rural industry can opt to take up FUW Academi membership and retired farmers are commemorated with our Farmer for Life membership option. In fact, anyone who wants to support the farming countryside in Wales can join by taking up the ‘Countryside’ membership package.
FUW maintains a grassroots connection via numerous local offices providing support and guidance. The county groups provide representation and support on local issues. Head Office challenges government through lobbying and campaigning. We also develop market areas and provide information via our sector committees.  In addition to this, our Presidential Policy Team is elected by our farmer members and represent farmers at local, national, and international level, often taking part in ministerial meetings, stakeholder workshops and local branch meetings. The benefits of membership are comprehensive across a range of areas. Full members can access free assistance in completing the Annual Single Application Form, receive advice on appeals and penalties, and support in handling a number of complex farming related issues. In addition to farm business support, members have the chance to get involved with a range of activities and farm visits throughout the year. As well as this, members unlock a great range of discounts from partner organisations. More information on the range of benefits can be found on our
Services
page.
You can become involved as little or as much as you like. Many members take up membership for the reassurance that they have support and guidance when issues arise. Others take up membership so they have a direct channel to have their voice heard by government and policy makers. We strongly encourage all members to engage fully to ensure that we lobby for the things that really matter to the farming community in Wales.
We have worked hard to secure top discounts and savings on the services and products our members have requested. A comprehensive list is available
here
That’s no problem at all. You can be a member of more than one organisation and still receive the benefits of FUW membership.
Not at all. We are the recognised independent voice for family farms in Wales, and smallholders are very important to us. We understand that issues affecting smallholders can be very different to those affecting larger scale farms and work hard to ensure you receive the right support. As a democratic, grassroots organisation, all members have the same opportunities to attend branch meetings, sit on committees and shape union policies. This helps us concentrate on the things that really matter to you on a day-to-day basis.
Our FUW Academi has been designed with students and young people in mind. FUW Academi members can access discounts on training and information on the latest training schemes, grants and partnerships.
LOCAL INVOLVEMENT AND MEETINGS
Meetings are held across Wales. Get in touch with your
local office.
Members can meet each other at all events we attend e.g. breakfast events in January, plus at meetings, county branch meetings, Academi events and farm visits etc. If you are attending local or national shows in Wales the FUW stand is the best place to network with other members whilst enjoying hospitality and a rest.
Whatever your interest in farming, get in touch with the nearest county office to discuss farming matters and get involved in the discussion.

POLICY
The FUW actively seeks opinions from members to lobby politicians and farming bodies. We listen to our members at county and committee meetings, by conducting consultations via the website and by meeting you face to face at marts and shows. Our local branches are only a phone call away and channel opinions to form the heart of our policy positions.
