In this study the benefits and considerations related to implementation of "Learning by Design" (... more In this study the benefits and considerations related to implementation of "Learning by Design" (LBD) method through a Web-based learning environment were investigated from the instructor`s perspective. LBD is a project based learning approach on the basis of case based reasoning and problem based learning approaches. The case course of the study, Foundations of Distance Education, was given in blended form containing faceto-face sessions and web based instructional activities. The students were assigned to design a course site within LBD approach. The information gathered from the instructor in three different semesters were evaluated and compared. The 2010 and 2011 summer implementations of the course had some differences in technical and administrative level. These modifications were led by the previous experiences from the former implementations of the course. The outcomes of these differences were also investigated. It was emphasized that the project work had as a positive effect on the students' learning. Taking role in the design of a course with iterative processes was accepted to be effective in learning of the subject. It was also mentioned that this type of LBD implementation required a technical support. It was observed that the instructor has the sole responsibility of maintaining the servers, besides being the instructor.

For effective and individualized knowledge construction process, e-Learning design changes to more social and collaborative design with new generation technology (Young, 2011). WE-learning is the combination of mobile learning and e-learning called ubiquitous learning integrated with social networks for collaborative knowledge construction process. Social interaction is so important that Siemens (2006) stresses that a major challenge today is not what you know but who you know. Social media support creating knowledge collaboratively through its network and collaborative services (Chatti, Klamma, Jarke & Naeve, 2007). Social network platforms provide participant information exchange, then knowledge construction, and finally learning and development . It is popular that nowadays, according the social network literature researchers have focused on how to integrate social network tool trends into the knowledge construction and collaborative learning process to create new knowledge creation experiences and practice across communities. So the aim of that study is to present the new framework as "social knowledge co-construction model" based on online collaborative knowledge construction process and as a social network system, contributions of Google+ applications for the collaborative knowledge construction process. The framework includes the integrated of formal and informal knowledge construction and learning process within a social context with social networking web system and its applications. As a result, four phases which are web search, social interaction, shared workplace/environment and team works/discussion were analyzed and defined to form Social Knowledge Co-Construction Framework. As in the natural knowledge creation process, the process of the social knowledge co-construction framework is spiral cycle.

Also, development in technology and computers affects Information and Communication Technology (ICT) so ICT leads to innovative change. Especially, researchers try to integrate and apply these innovative changes of ICT into education environment. Education with ICT provides opportunities to students learn independently and have equality in learning environment. This study is prepared to serve this purpose and presents the critical issues of instructional design and development process about material for learning mathematics by using multi-touch table for elementary students. The aim of this study is to understand how multitouch screen technology is used by elementary school students in math lesson and explore what critical usability issues are. This study is carried out with a multi-touch screen and data are collected from 70 students from 1 st graders to 5 th graders in math club in a private elementary school. Observations made during the students' usage of multitouch table technology and three math teachers' opinion are used as data source of the study. Tangrams and math concepts such as less-more, geometric shapes are used as learning materials for math lesson to improve spatial skills of students. The Tangram application which is used as a learning material offers puzzles choices of simple and complex level. Tangram can play multiuser so in implementation of study, students work in pairs for both of the simple and complex levels. Also, less-more concept can study multiuser, too. For that application, four students use multitouch table at the same time. Other math concept, geometric shapes, students study individually. According to observation results, there are some differences about students' desire and behavior from 1 st to 5 th graders. First graders need to clear and simple verbal instruction to use technology correctly. On the other hand, 5 th graders need to more challenging and adventurous materials for Tangrams and the math concepts to provide their interest on material. General usability issues of this study are that the height of multitouch table is a problem for small graders to see and do practices. Another issue is that free practice is needed to understand how that technology works. In addition to these findings, it is observed that students are willing to use multitouch technology. As a result, using multitouch technology in math education seems to have promising future. While developing new materials for students, these critical issues such as doing free practice, adjustable table height, suitable materials for grade levels and other findings are taken into consideration.
