Night Mooring at Maple Bridge by Zhang Ji

Synopsis

A famous Tang poem about a traveler moored at Maple Bridge near Suzhou. The midnight bell from Hanshan Temple reaches the boat.

The Poem

The moon goes down, crows cry, frost fills the sky,
River maples, fishing fires face my troubled sleep.
Beyond Gusu city, from Hanshan Temple,
The midnight bell reaches the traveler's boat.
